  1. Looks like we have some hitters, not named Devers, who have trouble with the fastball. This would not be a game to lose.
  2. Bello doesn't know he needs to be throwing shutouts if he is to be the Ace of this staff. Looks like he is toying with the A's hitters
  3. Bobby D has not progressed in much of any way over the past 24 months. He takes legit strikes, then either chases or swing and miss.
  4. Bello vs Alex Wood , he of an over 16. ERA after 1 start. Bello did much better first time out. How long can this streak of excellent starting pitching go on ? At least 5 more games would be nice, completing a successful road trip out west, if that is to be. The hitters have not yet really come alive. The 9 runs vs the A's came on 9 hits PLUS 5 Oakland errors. Sub .500 OPS's belong to Casas and Story, and part -timer Abreu. Keep the streak alive of Vegas Bob starting game threads
  5. This series should by all rights be a sweep by Boston, but let's get tomorrow's win done before thinking about that eventuality. The starting rotation has been superb and clearly validates JH's theory that the cheap kids can pitch as well as the high price throwers As I said earlier, check it out after the Orioles series.
  6. Call for Mr. Wong ! Mr. Wong report immediately to HP.
  7. I think last year he was streaky that way with many games pulling off weakly, and then on occasion ripping the line drive, and even losing some up in the RF seats. Just not consistent in a positive way.
  8. Houck has a 3 hit shutout with only 83 pitches through 6. Is he back out for the 7th . I would let him at least start the inning and see where he is at 90 pitches
  9. Yoshida was supposedly using ST to work on that slashing ( Ichiro like) swing and using opposite field hitting. Oakland-Alameda is not Fenway with the Wall, but I don't see that swing or effect in his current approach.
  10. Again bases loaded 1 out, and score only one on a botched DP grounder by Yoshi. To me, it is hard to get excited by Yoshi as a key hitter (DH) in this lineup. No excitementy when he gets up. I think he is capable of more than he is showing but still little enthusiasm for him.
  11. Houck may not get to the third time through the order tonight. AC probably wants to get Joely a little work in.
  12. 39 pitches through 3 innings ? Houck is following his pitching mates very well. This is the A's but a win is a win in the standings. Things may look a little different next week in Boston vs. the O's
  13. Story officially makes it a laugher. Duran with 3 hits and 3 SB's shows what he can do for this team out of the leadoff slot .
  14. Anyone who may wonder why Dever's shoulder is sore just needs to watch a few of his swings. I understand that is how he gets exit velocity when he does connect but he will wreck himself . Lucky the ump didn't cheat him with K on the last 2 pitches.
  15. MLB Managers should get a tape of this game to show their guys the type of defense that will get you a permanent seat in the minor leagues
  16. When a team gets aa chance to blow out a lesser opponent, go ahead and do so. Bases loaded one out and don't score . Boyle will have a huge pitch count for 3 after this upcoming AB by the Grays
  17. Valdez can give the ball a ride. Oakland plays down to their AAAA status and ability
  18. Casas at least makes contact and bounces a single up the middle to score Duran with 2 outs. That works.
  19. Is Wong dinged up or is AC trying to get McGuire's bat into the offense more. ? Wong seemed to be the #1 catcher for most of 2023 and through ST.
  20. After seeing the pitching results in Seattle the past 4 games, it was interesting to see Peter Abraham's comments on the marked reduction in 4 seam fastballs being used by Boston, mimicing the same strategy in SF last year. Bailey may be making a real mark on the pitching staff. None of our guys are power pitchers anyway. So we will have to see if a heavy diet of breaki9ng balls and changeups interspersed with fewer heaters has an effect on these arms. Who does call the pitches at this time ? Wong/McGuire per a game plan for each hitter or direct from the bench by Bailey ? I did see McGuire looking over that way quite a bit Sunday . Maybe it was fielder positioning or maybe pitch calling.
  21. Tanner Houck has the challenge of keeping up with the remarkable starting pitching displayed against the Mariners. Can he break the 3rd time through the lineup curse? A's run out Joe Patrick Boyle, one fine Irishman, who at 6'-7" will be throwing downhill at our guys. Boyle , 24, went 2-0 over 3 games for the 2023 A's with a 1.69 ERA ( meaningless) and a.081 WHIP over 16 innings ( meaningful) . What did we learn in Seattle ? Pitching looks focused both starting and in relief. #26 on the roster actually got in an inning without getting scored on. Hitting is O'Neill , Devers skipped 50% of the games , Casa and Duran not yet helping . Wilyer Abreu is 1 for 7 with 4 K's. Putting this thread out early due to a busy Monday upcoming and don't want to forget it
  22. Now onto 3 with the A's.. Got to be 2-1 minimum. Could be a rewarding trip West this time.
  23. Nice win for the Visitors , great starting pitching. Could easily have been 4-0, like NYY in Houston . Encouraging in general. Still a few roster moves to make as April rolls in.
  24. I guessed that Boston would throw Rodriguez again today just to prove a point . Joely did get through the inning with no real damage, got robbed by the HP ump. I would still not let him be #26 for long.
  25. The umpiring at HP gets worse with time. Joely had a legit K on Urias, turns into a walk.
