  1. Looking for Joely to do well. I thought Bernandino would be on the team. Probably later when Joely gets a sore arm. Only Lh'er in the pen or most other places.
  2. Pablo Reyes, a disappointing human being in so many ways. Thanks for picking up his detritus, Connor Wong !
  3. We aren't quite there yet (It's still early). But, staying within the goal lines. 12 outs to a great night .
  4. I was wondering about that being a an intentional play but,if so, not brilliant managing in my book at this stage of the game.
  5. Good News: Sox very likely run Castillo out after 5, eligible to be the loser. Bad News: Castillo could still become the winner in this game. Bello needs to prevent that
  6. No, Vanover is the only one loaded out there
  7. Rafaela has mastered the Red Sox Way of baserunning
  8. O'Neill gave it some head, but it's a run
  9. Suddenly, Bello is through 3 shutout innings with under 50 pitches. As Wyo said, he gets better with a few innings pitched
  10. Devers dumps on Castillo ! (n And Vanover, by extension)
  11. Vanover has easily made some of the worst strike calls i have seen this season. Atrocious, putting guys in 0-2 counts
  12. Bello is being effective without being efficient. Playing with matches but keeping the extinguisher handy. It is a picture from last year. Lots of movement on his pitches, but not much control over where it ends up.
  13. Well, it's still early. Almost a full 162 to go, less tonight's 6 outs
  14. Goals for Opening Night: 1. A BOSTON WIN 2. Bello gets 5+ innings, 3 runs or less given up 3. Hitters K less than 10 times . Solid BP pitching 4. Score 5 or more runs
  15. Hey there , SS. But too bad they play on grass or something that looks it instead of on paper. The difference can be meaningful to this young crew. Best wishes to the Sox and us for a surprisingly good outcome this year.
  16. The West Coast start will be a marker to see who can take the ST positivities into real play. The 10 game ride through Seattle, Oakland and Angels, will result in somewhere between 6-4 on the upside and 3-7 on the downside. Realistic Expectation : 5-5, but not just to split the baby.
  17. Thank You, one and all for a great off season analysis of the Red Sox team and its foibles, BUT now the Off Season is over and hopefully now we can comment on players in real games.
  18. Using Dalbec's experience at 3B as the cutting edge for him over anybody else ( forget Voit) is an interesting take. I'm sure some of us on this site have experience at 3B . On the other hand probably not so many MLB HR's as Bobby D.
  19. I will go out on a long thin limb here and predict that Kenley Jansen will be of little use or value to the Red Sox this season . But he will get to POCKET about $16 MM of JH's hard earned, tax paid money
  20. Stanton with 3 HRs in 4 innings vs Pirates just finished his highlight reel for 2024. wait until he strains a lat or hamstring running out a DP ball.
  21. Grissom's upside is currently limited to "get up off the pine and actually play" . Yeah, it's a long season, but he has already cut it short by a month or so. Not a choice now, but I might have considered keeping Sale over a 2Bman who can't perform. And I do know the Sox had no future with Sale , beyond the July deadline, and they do have years of control on Grissom. Jusst frustrated ove th number of recent year pickups who cannot take the field.
  22. Will Duran be a starter in LF ( or CF) in order to bat leadoff and get a fast runner on base in front of Devers , Casas and Story ? Then Yoshi, as a better OBP type, in front of Wong/McGuire then Rafaela/Abreu . 2B will be hitting 9th at least until Grissom can play.
  23. Yoshi, undoubtedly , will have a breakout opening set of series on the West Coast since he will be 3 hours closer to his home country. I could see.405/1.009 with 16 hits, 10 walks, 12 rbi's, and OBP of nearly .490 in the first 10 games.
  24. Yoshida continues to compete for the Suckitude award of ST 2024. .189/.683, more K's (7) than BB's (5). But 4 of his 7 meager hits have been for XB's so he is muscling up. But then so is Bobby Dalbec
  25. Bernardino who showed some effectiveness in 2023, straight off the trash pile of pitching , has also performed well so far this ST. 5.2 IP, 3 hits, 0 ER, 4 K's vs 1 BB, and 0.71 WHIP. If we are lucky , Brennan will keep that type of performance well into the season One of Bloom's finds .Breslow needs to go to Tijuana and see if there are any more down there
