Pitchers who should be back in 2022:
Sale: He will be much improved over this season's version. It takes about 2 years to fully recover form TJ surgery.
Pivetta: Young, cheap and controllable.
Whitlock: See Pivetta
Houck: See Pivetta
Brasier: Still effective and fairly cheap
Taylor: Hey, he's a lefty. Had a good year.
Barnes: Because no one will take him after that extension. Hope he can clear his head. He has to be only a 6th and 7th inning guy. No high pressure situations.
Eovaldi: Because he is the only proven starter.
D-Hern: He is young, cheap and controllable but he doesn't have enough control. He has a lot of work to do this winter. Can't give up on him yet.
Sawamura: One year left on his contract.
That leaves 2 or 3 spots. It is crucial that Bloom fills them with difference makers, whether they are starters or relievers. Signing E-Rod may be an option but not if he wants a lot of years at big money. If he does, let him walk.
The main thing is to have starters capable of going 6+ innings. This 4 or 5 inning thing will kill the bullpen over the long haul. Pitchers today are such sissies and the teams baby them to the point where they mentally can't go more than 6.
