  1. Obviously, we recognize Pedro as a great pitcher, but what should also be remembered was that Pedro was the driving force that convinced the SOX FO to sign Ortiz.
  2. I guess we can all agree that as long-time SOX fans we may not have had a team of much great pitching, but we sure can't complain about the hitters who came thru here.
  3. Very good. I had forgotten about him; and, yes, he is a shmuck.
  4. Ya know Moon, I seriously doubt we'll ever see a 3 and 4 hitter in any team's line-up that will touch Manny and David. And in the history of baseball, imho, one would have to go as far back as Ruth and Gehrig.
  5. Note: Babe Ruth hadn't become a full-time outfielder until he became a Yankem. He was a great pitcher for the SOX.
  6. I'm glad we didn't have to find out. Imo, Manny was the best RH hitter the SOX ever had. So many of the SOX great hitters batted from the left side. Don't let the LF wall fool you; Fenway is a LH hitter's ballpark.
  7. Btw, the SOX will have the pleasure(probably not the right word) of facing the 'great one' this weekend.
  8. In the case of Mike Trout; I wonder how much of an impact he has on Angels' home attendance? I'm sure it's a lot. But he's probably the exception to the rule. Can anyone here think of another player who impacts home attendance significantly? Heck, I'm even thinking that Trout may have an impact on attendance when the Angels are on the road. But, then, he is the greatest everyday player currently playing baseball.
  9. I do remember distinctly that a week after the SOX signed Price, the Nats signed Scherzer. Oh, well, hindsight is golden.
  10. I wasn't the biggest Price fan, but he did perform well in the WS.
  11. Well, the SOX did win a WS with Price. Some GM's would say that's worth the price. No pun intended.
  12. From what I've seen their biggest strength is their BP. Like I posted earlier about how tough the AL East could be, even the team that finishes last will not be easy to beat. What ever team finishes first in that division, it will definitely be a struggle.
  13. They're both power RH's and equally strong. It should be interesting to compare them as the season moves along.
  14. The AL East, imho, is going to be the toughest division in MLB. So far, there's no cupcakes in the East.
  15. Fun fact: Based on playing the most teams who have an above .500 record, the O's have had the toughest schedule in MLB so far this season.
  16. Having just played the O's, which rookie, Dalbec or Mountcastle, do you guys believe will develop into the better hitter?
  17. Actually, Cora could have let Perez start the 6th and then pulled him if anyone got on. Baseball 101. Oh well, can't win 'em all, but this game was certainly winnable.
  18. Too bad the SOX can't bat against their own BP, instead of Baltimore's better BP. Also, didn't understand the removing of Perez with low pitch count plus his being effective, but I won't criticize the manager because that would be blasphemous on this thread.
  19. I realize it's still early in the season, but Betts isn't exactly tearing it up for the Dodgers. Batting .215 with RISP.
  20. Here's a fun fact I'd just discovered while watching the Dodgers/Angels game. Of the SOX 22 wins, 15 were of the come from behind variety.
