  1. Betts is gone. He got an offer from the Dodgers he couldn't refuse. Thanks, Mookie for 2018 and good luck to you. Right now, I'm more interested in the player the SOX received for Betts. Verdugo hasn't exactly been chopped liver; he's been good since he's been a SOX and I see him getting even better. One can't put a price on the enthusiasm Dugo brings to each and every game he plays.
  2. Any changes approved by MLB will always favor the hitters and not the pitchers. It all started in 1969 when the mound was lowered.
  3. He had 406. Hank Aaron in the NL had exactly 400 in 1959.
  4. Yup, and in '78 Jim led his league in HR's(46), Triples(15), and RBI(139); he's the only player who ever did that in ML history.
  5. Here's a question for MVP78, but anyone can jump in if they want: What offensive statistic did Jim Rice accomplish in 1978 that hadn't been done in the AL since 1937 by Joe DiMaggio?
  6. Hi, Moon. The stat I was referring to was that the SOX have the fewest walks in MLB.
  7. Maybe my memory has failed me, but I remember Josh being mostly welcomed with sarcastic comments when he entered a game and that was before this season and early in this season. But it really doesn't matter; the past is the past. Right now he's one of the guys who has contributed hugely to the SOX success.
  8. Josh has been, perhaps, the biggest surprise of the season. Before this season most here, including myself, wanted him gone. BTW, when I mentioned 'good pitching' I was referring to the SOX starters. My fault for not making that clear. The BP, for the most part, has been above average and is one of the main reasons the SOX are 15 games over .500.
  9. Here's a stat none of us who watch the games should be surprised seeing. The SOX are last in MLB in total walks at 182.
  10. It usually does, but haven't seen much good pitching in a while. EO proved it is possible.
  11. I believe it was Gowdy; Ned was interning at that time. Narragansett Beer was the only sponsor. Love me some Narragansett.
  12. That's referred to as improv umpiring. Something that might have been seen on SCTV.
  13. I watched that game on channel 38. I'm really old.
  14. So we're not going to be in Houston? Just disregard the thread title and enjoy the games.
  15. Day of rest for the SOX and Moon tomorrow.
  16. Well, it did take a perfect relay to get him out, so I'd give some credit to the SOX defense, which has been rare of late.
  17. Ah, another boring come from behinder. What's that 24 now? 10-2 in interleague play and also the best road record in MLB.
  18. I wouldn't be surprised if Devers' future is DH.
