  1. These Ted Williams lifetime numbers never get boring: BA=.344 OBP=.482 SLG=.634 OPS=1.116 OPS+=191 HITS=2654 WALKS=2021 Because of his discipline(stubbornness?) not to swing at anything outside the strike zone, Ted never had a 200 hit season, although he did get 190+ hits in two seasons.
  2. I know there's a lot of season remaining, but long time SOX fans like myself have to be experiencing culture shock. I mean when has it ever been said that a SOX team will only go as far as their pitching takes them. I'm guessing never during my time as a fan.
  3. Another fine performance from a SOX starter. And a fine play by Devers.
  4. Medium talent? I believe he's got above average talent. Remember he did get drafted as a 2nd baseman.
  5. Considering how often this SOX team strikes out, it helps explain the large number of empty base HR's.
  6. It was just mentioned on the Tampa feed that Duran has more triples at this point of the season than 23 teams.
  7. Criswell's pitch count after five is impressive. His grooved 0-2 pitch to Arozerano is the difference in this game.
  8. Interesting that all 3 hitters to have hit HR's in 8 consecutive games were LH. At this point Devers is the 14th player to hit HR's in 6 straight games. Before Devers' 6 game streak there were a few SOX players who had a 5 game streak, including Ted Williams and Bobby Dalbec. A rare instance where Ted Williams and Bobby Dalbec are mentioned in the same sentence.
  9. I wonder if Yawkey knew when he signed Ted Williams that Ted was half-Mexican? Yawkey was a disgrace as an owner and a human being.
  10. True. Crisswell grooved a very hittable pitch.
  11. The Yawkey SOX weren't signing any black ballplayers in the 40's. Hell, their first black player was Pumpsie Green and that was in 1959.
  12. Giving up a base hit with an 0-2 count is one of the most disgusting things in a baseball game.
  13. Duran(LF) Abreu O'Neill(DH) Devers Smith Hamilton(SS) McGuire Grissom Rafaela Imho, Hammy at 2nd, Rafaela at SS, Duran in CF, O'Neill in LF and Wong at DH, gives the SOX a better shot at winning. Having posted this, Grissom will probably go 4-4.
  14. Criswell vs Littell(RH) Hopefully, another good starting performance and good defense gives the SOX a shot of another win tonight. Oh, and scoring some runs would be helpful, just like the previous two games. Go SOX!
  15. Trading Duran, who is perhaps the most exciting player on the team and one of the best defensive OF's in the league and who is being paid the league minimum, really makes a lot of sense. Nonsense.
  16. Look at Duran. He was considered a liability in the OF until this season. Now he's one of the best. Definitely coaching, but only if the player is 100% committed to what the coach is preaching. One major thing about Duran; speed never slumps, whether it's on offense or defense.
  17. The SOX FO signing Bailey was one of their better moves in the off season.
  18. Hammy is definitely better at 2nd than at SS.
  19. Giving credit where credit's due. Terrific defense by the SOX tonight, including the most recent by Smith.
  20. Hamilton continues to make excellent plays at 2nd. And his bat hasn't been too shabby either.
  21. Houck entered tonight's game with a 1.50 ERA on the road. Another excellent start tonight. How important is a good pitching coach? Just ask Houck.
  22. Houck doesn't seem affected by having runs scored behind him. That's been a rare event.
  23. Two homers, so far, and neither were solos. Things are looking up.
