  1. Sorry for your loss, my best wishes
  2. I agree with you, the worst thing that can happen for the Sox is to go in a winning streak and fall short of the WC spot, the result will be the same and you will fall some spots in the draft, what the Sox need is to think in the farm and rebuild the depth as soon as possible.
  3. I was doing some numbers, on what it will take for the Sox to take the last WC spot Current Standings 8/19 Cleveland 125 74 51 0.592 Tampa 125 73 52 0.584 Oakland 124 71 53 0.573 Boston 126 67 59 0.532 If the top 3 keep the pace, this is what it will take for them to grab a WC spot Cleveland 37 22 15 0.595 162 96 66 0.593 Tampa 37 22 15 0.595 162 95 67 0.586 Oakland 38 22 16 0.579 162 93 69 0.574 Boston 36 28 8 0.778 162 95 67 0.586 That means win a whooping 28 games If the top 3 play at 0.500 the rest of the way, then Cleveland 37 19 18 0.514 162 93 69 0.574 Tampa 37 19 18 0.514 162 92 70 0.568 Oakland 38 19 19 0.500 162 90 72 0.556 Boston 36 25 11 0.694 162 92 70 0.568 The goal is to reach 95 wins and hope the rest of the teams keep the pace, because if one of them performs better, everything becomes harder and expect them to play .500 is not realistic. I still think Cleveland or Minn will grab the first WC spot, so the 2nd WC is the one that is still in the air.
  4. Add to that duo the kid they have in the minors (Jo Adell), if he lives up to the hype, it can take the Angels to the next level
  5. Then the theory of the hr friendly park goes away, there's no denying of the RF joke in YS but it looks like it doesn't contribute that much on the overall hr number.
  6. Talking about ballpark factors, look at this table, very surprised to see YS in the bottom third in every category. http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor/_/sort/HRFactor Based on this, for HR the top 3 are Toronto, Colorado and Baltimore (no surprise here), Fenway at 21 and yankee Stadium at 26. Not sure if I'm reading this right, any help will be welcome.
  7. Not looking good for the Yankees tonight down 7-0 in the top of the 1st
  8. I wouldn't trade Gleyber for him, I'm sure you feel the same way
  9. Last year everything went your way, pitching, hitting, this is just one of those years for you guys
  10. Like every team, the yankees adjust their approach based on the ballpark they play half the games, every team does this
  11. The same way some people wanted to trade Benintendi a few weeks ago for peanuts, young guys need time, some become all-stars out of the gate, some need some seasoning. I disagree with you on Chavis, he might not have the talent to stick around for long, even in that case, you stick with him he might surprise a lot of people, including me. Devers and Benintendi are the real deal, by the way, it's unfair to place sky high expectations on them, the league will adjust and they will hit some rough patches, but it's not a good reason to give up on them.
  12. Trading him at the trade deadline next year might be the best course of action for you guys, the financial liability for the "buying" team will be minimal and the return could be higher and as soon as he reaches FA you can bid for him, it's basically two months without him. The downside of this approach is the luxury tax reset won't happen, but you might have something in the farm (from the trade) to make up for it
  13. I think the Yankees will show some interest on Betts, at least to drive the price up for the Sox, but if they can get him in their own terms they will do it, addition by subtraction, Cashman has done this in the past and I'm sure he'll do it again
  14. I stand corrected on the catchers situation. In the OF, the biggest liability for them is Pollock he's been really bad this year, Taylor is adequate and Verdugo is the future there; I won't deny that Betts is far better than both of them but the price tag is a big factor, as I said before, if the Sox get Polock back you might have the Dodgers attention, they can try try to flip him later for some prospects,
  15. The Dodgers are not a good match for Vazquez or Betts; in the OF they have Bellinger, Pollock & Taylor, with Pederson and Verdugo as backups, unless you get Pollock back, there's no deal there. In the catcher position it's even worse, they have right now Barnes & Martin, for next year either Smith (promoted last month) and Ruiz, who are top 100 prospects, will be ready to step up, my guess is they let go one of the veterans and insert one of them and the 2nd stays in the minors just in case.
  16. This would be the best route for you guys, but his price tag will limit the number of teams who can afford him, unless the Sox include some serious money on the deal, they won't get a big haul for him
  17. He got his fair chance, the only knock on his development was that he was rushed to the ML, we'll never know if this affected in the long term
  18. Those were really epic (still are), I just did the first post, because I remember some really agitated discussions, tried to lower the tone a bit, some other poster did a new one because it became really loooooong and then several others followed, I just did the first one. bad thing we can't go back to check it out to discuss the lawsuit for royalties lol!!!
  19. Didn't know, I remember him, very good poster
  20. you might need to add the Rangers to this list, they are only 1.5GB the Sox.
  21. I remember that he stopped posting for some serious health conditions related to seizures, the doctor asked him to stay away form a computer screen to reduce the risk. Hope he's ok, health and family comes first
  22. I was Carpi, without the "n". English is not my first language (you can tell by my posts), so I didn't post much there, don't post a lot here. I'm more like a reader, I get very good ideas and learn a lot, only post when I think I can add something valuable to the discussion. I started to follow this type of forums to improve my language skills, now I just love to talk about Baseball.
  23. I was in that other site, in fact the first the first thread "A realistic view...." was created by me, then Moon came and took the idea to a whole different level. BTW, I remember the good old Jete, Harness and the borderline trolls SPC1988 and Babe
  24. Looks like one of the WC will be for Guardians or Twins, the other might be up for grabs between the Rays and Oakland, the Sox might get hot and jump into contention but they are still 5.5GB the 2nd WC. They need to take advantage of their soft schedule the rest of the month, they only have 3 vs Cleveland and 2 vs Philly, if they play .600 the rest of the way they have a chance. September is tough, you have the Yankees, Rays and Twins, if you don't get close during August, it would be very hard during Sept.
  25. Cameron Maybin might be available for CF, he still covers a lot of ground in CF, he's resurrecting his career in NY. It would be nice for 1 yr, don't see the yankees bringing him back. I'm sure you can get him for 3 millions
