  1. Lin has been called up twice now and excelled both times. I'm not saying he'll continue at this clip, but I don't think Holt will give you more over an entire season. Or is Holt out of options or something?
  2. If other GMs overvalue Bradley the way some people around here do, we should definitely trade him. Dude is a minor league bat who is slightly better at tracking down fly balls than other center fielders. Woo-hoo. I'm not saying I'd cut him, but I thought we should have traded him in some of the rumored deals I'd heard the last few years. Who knows if they were actually on the table, though. Most center fielders are usually the best/most athletic outfielders on their team. Tracking down fly balls is something they've been doing since tee-ball. JBJ gets a slightly better jump and may make the occasional highlight reel catch, but his hitting is putrid. I understand what others are saying about being able to hide him in our stacked lineup -- it has some logic to it, but I'm just not sure how lineup is sufficiently "stacked" for that. Package E-Rod and JBJ for a good starting pitcher, put Benitendi in center, and... okay, yeah, I agree that J.D. in left is a scary thought, but he seems to have a good work ethic -- hopefully he works at it and becomes serviceable. If Manny could do it, he probably can too. Then Hanley is the full-time DH and his option vests, which I am completely opposed to at whatever cost/detriment to this season. So never mind. This is why I'm not a GM. As Bradley's hitting continues to drop, so does his value, I suppose. Should have traded him after his one good season at the dish.
  3. Hey look... Pedroia's injured.
  4. Todd Walker. Seems very good to me so far. Comfortable, some good insights, speaks well... most importantly (for me), he has a good announcing voice and is aware of cadence and the rhythms of speech. That stuff can't be taught. Is this his first time in the booth?
  5. Overreact? Have you seen his numbers? They're atrocious. Dude is Pokey Reese without the glove.
  6. Boagarts is comically bad this year. Guess it'll make the decision of whether to resign him and deal with Boras, easier.
  7. I don't think it sucks, but it's definitely overrated and not as good as the numbers show. Agree with you there.
  8. Seems odd that Eckersley hasn't announced a game since the Shaughnessy... that's pretty much all I was trying to say.
  9. Best color man in the game... now we have to listen to Johnny Gomes, who can barely speak a coherent sentence of English and has a voice like nails on a chalkboard. Just another reason to love the Price deal!
  10. Call me logical, call me cynical... I have absolutely no urge to go to the games. The atmosphere I hear so much about... meh. Compared to baseball in Asia, football in America, NCAA football/basketball, soccer everywhere, it's really just a bunch of people sitting around watching an extremely slow game and occasionally clapping. Oh, and eating insultingly overpriced food and drinking insultingly overpriced drinks. The seats are uncomfortable. The view is far inferior to what you get on TV. Parking, traffic, crowds... I can't believe anyone goes to these games, but I'm happy so many disagree with me or else the games wouldn't be played! I live in Korea and the parks are tiny, you can bring in food and drinks and even if you don't, the places you buy beers and food are basically convenience stores and fast food joints with the same prices. So you buy beers at 7/11 for the same price you pay for beers at 7/11 and buy burgers at Burger King for the same price you buy burgers at Burger King, etc. Not to mention super hot cheerleaders dancing on the dugouts
  11. https://sports.yahoo.com/david-prices-reported-argument-hall-famer-leaves-red-sox-disturbed-013255811.html This guy is a disaster. Can't wait for all the "but... but... but... he had a lot of strikeouts last year!!" posts...
  12. Anyone else think this is odd? Manny was a very polarizing player... he was a monster on the field for most of his time here, but he was also a huge pain in the ass in the clubhouse according to some, and quit on the team more than once before finally forcing a trade. Then he got banned for steroids (TWICE) and retired from MLB in disgrace. I know he didn't get arrested for battering his wife or something, but it seems like an odd promotion for the Sox marketing department. I'm not personally offended or anything, just offering an observation. Anyone see what I'm getting at?
  13. Porcello with another gem in the making.
  14. Maybe "bust" was too strong a word, but those numbers, specifically the ERA, along with his playoff performance, and now the possibility that he is becoming a distraction, are absolutely not worth 30 million. Come on, dude. He's been disappointing. if the Sox front brass could get rid of him for thirty million a year going forward, I almost guarantee they would. I believe he is the highest paid pitcher in baseball... he's not remotely the best pitcher in baseball and has regressed significantly since signing the contract. How on earth can you be happy with that?
  15. You'd be happy with an ERA of 4.00, several losing streaks, and getting shelled in the playoffs? For thirty million? Utterly bizarre. Price has been a bust so far, there really is no counter-argument to this. His numbers are that of a #3 at best, he missed significant time with an injury that could be a concern for the future, and now he's throwing temper tantrums in the clubhouse. There's really no positive spin you can put on this. So far the signing has been a huge mistake.
  16. Sox offense is truly a juggernaut. Man... I knew we'd miss Ortiz, but I didn't realize it would be this bad.
  17. Price is a huge, huge bust. Flipping out at a reporter for REPOSTING someone's tweet (if I have that correct... I don't use Twitter) is not helping the situation.
  18. Why not? I'm pretty big on Chris Young, he's been very good in his role since joining our squad. Nice well-rounded player with some pop and some speed, solid hitter and fielder, etc. I know that doesn't always translate into a better-than-average position player, but I think he could be at least average, and think over the course of the season he'd put together some pretty solid numbers. Can't have an All-Star at every position. Splurge for a stud outfielder in one of the next few off-seasons if our offense remains in the shitter.
  19. I thought they should have canned him during the off-season they let Lovello go. Team looked awesome under Lovello. But they also won the division last year under Farrell, so I think he has at least one more off-season of credit to use up. Can't say I'm too happy about it, for reasons that have probably already been covered in this thread and elsewhere.
  20. Should have traded him this past offseason, when his value was at its highest. I thought that even at the time (though I didn't say it on here, because I only began posting a few weeks ago). He is wayyyyyyy too streaky and has been a bad or mediocre hitter for longer than he's been a good hitter. Trading him would have meant you still have Benitendi and Betts, tons of cost-efficient (for now) youth/athleticism/ability in the outfield. Make Young your starting left fielder for a season or two and he'd probably put up serviceable numbers for very cheap, then sign a masher (which we probably should have done anyway, given our offense to this point in the season) or see if the farm turns up someone with a higher ceiling than Young. Not an expert on our farm, but admittedly can't recall any stud prospects being outfielders... anyone?
  21. For the life of me, the most baffling move by the Sox' front office in the last ten years was not making a play for Donaldson. We badly needed a third baseman that off-season, not to mention an right-handed terror who would hit 50 home runs in Fenway. We had a much deeper farm system than Toronto, much deeper pockets to extend him, and are always one of the most active teams on the trade/free agent market. What was the main piece of that trade? Brett Lawrie?? Holy s***, that hurts the Sox almost as much as the A's. Is that dude even in the league anymore? And then to make matters even worse, we signed Sandoval for third. Gut-wrenching. Donaldson is a punk, but Jesus Christ can he hit. I could not imagine the numbers he would have put up in our lineup the past few years.
  22. Yup... Sox came out of this one looking bad. Baseball brewhahas are always fun, but I sort of liked last year, seemed like our team were a bunch of choir boys. Machado is a well-documented punk, but his slide didn't seem that bad. His foot largely seemed to spike because it hit the bag, which propelled it upwards. I don't see why Barnes would throw at Machado's head. It would make him a pariah around the league and make the Sox look (and be) the bad guys in this situation. So I assume he was aiming for his back at worst, and the pitch got away from him. Still... Sox not looking good on this one at all, in my opinion. And Pedroia is my favorite player, but I agree with others in this thread saying he threw his teammates and Farrell under the bus with his quotes. Bad situation all around. And they didn't even leave a bruise on Machado!
  23. Do we, like, ever score runs? Off starters, anyway?
  24. He's also pretty good at missing unhittable pitches.
