  1. Mostly the negative game thread posts. And some negative posts on other threads. Some posters have offered legitimate concerns about the wisdom of a huge, long term contract. Others don't put much value on closers in general. But I definitely get the feeling that some just don't care for him for some reason.
  2. Like watching Alabama play Tuscaloosa Tech in football. At least they all got to beef up their stats . If it was a boxing match , it would have been stopped early.
  3. Most everyone has their biases. You are no exception. You say it has nothing to do with " love " , yet you want to keep JBJ ahead of Bogaerts. Let's hope Dombrowski is more objective.
  4. I always go by the back of the baseball card stats. Some of those cards can be worth plenty. Plus , I like to be different and buck the trends. Throw away that horrible gum though.
  5. Kimbrel is arguably top ten in all time closers. For some reason , some people just don't like him. Although they don't flat out say it , it is apparent when you read the comments. Go figure.
  6. To be in on the bidding for Kimbrel, a team would need to be a legitimate contender , have room in the budget and be in need of a closer. There are not too many teams that are a match . The Sox most certainly are one of them. I think there is a good chance of signing him for considerably less than the numbers that are being tossed around.
  7. I just think the Astros are a better team and more formidable opponent. I think the oddsmakers would agree with that. Of course, it goes without saying that all the postseason teams are dangerous and capable of winning.
  8. Does that mean you would rather play the Astros?
  9. I feel very confident no matter who we face in the playoffs. The Sox are the best team and if they can just play to their ability , they should have no problem. It would make it easier if Oakland can beat the Yanks and Cleveland can eliminate Houston. Beating Oakland and Cleveland would be the quickest and easiest route to the Fall Classic.
  10. Kind of like jury duty.
  11. Fear of an impending " cliff " has been diagnosed as a symptom of Cherington Nostalgia Syndrome. Or CNS , as it is known in medical circles.
  12. The word " valuable " adds too much subjectivity to the process. I would prefer having two separate awards. "Player of the year " and " Pitcher of the year " . But no matter how you slice it, Mookie should win it.
  13. The head first slide strikes again.
  14. It's a tough call with Kimbrel. He might ask for a lot , but there are not too many teams that will be in on the bidding. We might be able to sign him to a reasonable deal. If he does leave , we need a good alternative. Perhaps Britton? You don't want to have a championship caliber team with a shaky closer.
  15. Kelly has fallen out of favor with many , but he has been with the team all year and has had some excellent moments. My guess is that he will make the cut.
  16. Oakland has been overachieving for quite a while. The Yankees are a better , more talented , more dangerous foe. I feel confident the Sox can beat either , but Oakland would be easier.
  17. Wimbush benched. Ian Book did very well. Revitalized the Irish offense.
  18. I think teams like the Sox and Yanks have the wherewithal to avoid going over the edge of any cliff. No need to worry.
  19. One could argue that the N.L. is more balanced , while the A.L. is top heavy and loaded with cream puffs at the bottom. It has gone mostly unnoticed, but this year the N.L. has a slight overall edge in interleague play. First time that has happened in a while.
  20. One thing for sure ; the revenue stream increases when the team wins. I don't know what the bottom line shows , but I am pretty sure he is making a profit.
  21. . I certainly don't condone any goofing off on the job. But that sort of thing should be relatively easy for management / supervision to control.
  22. That might be necessary. Lying and stealing from someone who supplies your livelihood is reprehensible. Needs to be stopped. How would you like it if Aaron Boone called in sick for the wild card game so he could go fishing? Then again , that might actually be a blessing for the Yankees. Bad example.
  23. Employers need to crack down on that sort of crap anyway.
  24. Simply put , Brock Holt is a better ballplayer than many thought.
  25. The word " clutch " is thrown around too loosely. True clutch situations only really happen when the pressure is greatest , the stakes are highest and there is so much to be gained or lost. This does not happen too often. Some players can go all year without seeing a true clutch situation. When it does happen , some deal with it better than others. Not sure what that proves. Maybe just the difference in people.
