    Larry , if it makes you feel better to rip Kelly , go for it . But it doesn't change anything.

    Never complained about Devers . The obvious areas where improvement was needed were the bullpen and the catching. While the rotation was strong, we maybe could have let one of them go to free up some money . Having a platoon at first base , three catchers and two utility infielders is something that might have been rethought . I just thought it was a very lazy offseason . It's fine if you disagree.

    Bell , Retaining guys who are already part of the championship team is still kind of standing pat . I have no complaints with ownership's willingness to spend . Henry has been good .A little more creativity on the part of D.D. would have helped. I am not singing the blues. But I do not like a stand pat approach . And I did think spring training was quite lackadaisical. I don't think it is unreasonable to question certain things . I do think this is a very good team . I am expecting improvement.

    No question it is better to stand pat than it is to get worse . That doesn't mean standing pat is a good thing however.

    Mookie Betts is a franchise player . A future Hall of Famer . Do not trade him . Repeat , do not trade him . Keeping Chris Sale and letting Betts go , would be a colossal blunder . P.S. Nothing against Sale .

    Slasher and Bellhorn , Standing pat is generally not a good practice in baseball or in any business. After they put the duck boats away , the front office took a long winter's nap . Lollygagging your way through spring training is generally not a good idea . It smacks of complacency and overconfidence. The boys weren't exactly well prepared to start the season . It's not like I am second guessing. I said this all along . ( And I was shouted down.) Anyway , I am still pretty confident that they will stop sucking and get back on track before long . I do not foresee another 2014 .

    Problem: The Sox off season sucked . ( No problem, we have a great team ). Problem: The Sox spring training sucked . ( No problem , it is meaningless. They will turn it on come opening day ) . Problem: The first week of the regular season sucked . ( No problem , it is early and spring training sucked ) . Remedy : Simple . Stop sucking .

    What John Henry is doing and what George Steinbrenner did is what every owner should do . They are all billionaires. The fans are paying the freight . Give them something they can enjoy and appreciate. You can't simply " buy a championship " if everyone else is also going all in . The blame is not on the Steinbrenners and Henrys . It is on many of the other owners.

    Sale and Bogaerts are taken care of . The Sox will do what is necessary to keep Martinez and Betts . Losing Porcello , Bradley and Moreland is not exactly like going off of a cliff . Far from it .

    The owners have a master plan to stifle arbitration and free agency . Coerce players into signing contract extensions. It is working well so far . Whoever does it best gets the replica WWE title belt .

    Ken , Cora was wise to take it easy on the boys in spring training. It was a long season last year . Four months off is simply not enough rest for young athletes these days .

I am tired of the nerds in the conference room sending me memos saying " Studies have shown that Mookie should bat second . " Screw them and their studies . I'm the manager of this nine . "

    Harm , Tough to be a Mariners fan these days . They sell naming rights to the ballpark to raise cash . Then they trade their lights out closer to the Mets just so they can save some money on Cano . Last night it already cost them a game they should have won . Lots of empty seats . Wonder how many there will be later in the season .

    Obviously , we are not trading Mookie . But the difference between our bullpen and the Yankees' pen is pretty striking , no matter how you look at it . This could be a real problem .

    No reasons for concern as yet , but let's not get off to a rocky start and get too far behind the Yankees . Last season was phenomenal . All seashells , balloons and parades .. Then we basically took a nap during the off season . No problem . Everyone is back except Kimbrel and Kelly . We will be fine . Then came a lackluster spring training . No problem . Spring training results are meaningless . We can turn it on come opening day . Then came a dismal opening day . Sale with one of his worst starts ever . The bullpen stunk . No problem . Just one game . Everything will be okay . Okay , fine . But we are getting in the habit of shrugging things off . We need to see some better baseball before too long . I am still cautiously optimistic about this season . But maybe not as supremely confident as last year .

    The owners are not colluding to hold down salaries . They have worked out a " plan " to do it . All a matter of semantics .

    Chris Sale is a great pitcher . I expect that his velocity will pick up as the season progresses. Even if it does not come all the way back , he is still good enough to be effective. That said , his contract extension did seem a bit hasty for an organization that has recently become more budget conscious. Especially considering that he had to be pretty much shut down late last season . So , it is quite a gamble . Interesting that the Sox did not even want to talk with Porcello about an extension.

    Simply put , Swihart beat out Leon for the roster spot . Spring training was not at all meaningless for these two guys . It remains to be seen if Blake can keep his spot or maybe even challenge Vazquez for the starting job . Stay tuned.
