  1. Absolutely. They are surely lacking in that area.
  2. There is a multitude of stats. Enough to satisfy all types of fans. The advanced metrics " nerd stats" ( see George Will ) can be useful for front offices looking to build a team. The average fan has little interest in that and prefers the more basic , traditional stats. In either case , stats are not the problem. MLB needs to figure out how to make the sport more appealing to more people.
  3. Old Red , If you posted that today was Wednesday ; someone would say ," Wrong , it's Thursday in Australia." We are lucky to have some " experts" to clarify things for us.
  4. The 2021 Sox were a good team. They were underrated due to too much emphasis being put on the bizarre 2020 season. The Sox were just two games from the Fall Classic . But they also were just one game from fourth place. They were fortunate to finish the regular season against the tanking Nats. The A.L. East should be tough again this year. The expanded playoffs certainly makes it a bit easier to reach the post season. Hope springs eternal.
  5. 2019 was not a shock to me. I could see the storm clouds gathering during the off season. The bullpen was totally ignored. Big mistake. Sure enough , the pen became a major problem area. When a couple of the starters struggled , it was doom.
  6. Houck should be a starting pitcher. There is too much of this " third time through the order" business. Not sure about Whitlock . Could he be the closer? Maybe.
  7. Might be quite a few injuries to pitchers in the coming days. . Guys trying to amp up too fast with the short spring training. Sale would be one to do just that. And he is not the most durable guy to begin with.
  8. Hard to tell ????
  9. The spin doctor.
  10. Well , so much for the " Koji influence" . Didn't work too well.
  11. Chaim Bloom is a genius. He is cleverly allowing other teams to decimate their farms and blow up their payrolls in a quest for glory , while he slowly restocks our farm , saves money and rebuilds a team that four years ago was one of the best , if not the best, ever. Simply brilliant.
  12. I would be surprised if the Sox did not make a major signing or trade in the next few days. Can't let the Yanks and Jays gain the upper hand. Something has to happen. I wonder how ticket sales are going?
  13. Chaim ( Mr. Excitement ) Bloom
  14. I guess this means the Yanks are out on Correa , Freeman and probably Rizzo as well. Their lineup is still way too one dimensional.
  15. The deals are coming fast and furious now. A frenzy of signings and trades. Hard to keep track of who is where.
  16. That is worse than dumpster diving. That's digging through the landfill. I guess , sometimes you can find something good in there.
  17. Results are what matters. This is Bloom 's third year in charge. The first year, we finished in the cellar. A crazy year , so let's give him a pass on it. Last year we finished tied for second , eight games out of first. In the final series , it took a sweep of the Nationals , a team deep in the tank , to avoid finishing fourth and missing the post season again. We did pretty well in the post season , winning the play- in versus the Yankees and " upsetting" the Rays in the ALDS before falling short against the Astros in the ALCS. That is a realistic , no spin , no excuses recap of Bloom's first two seasons. Is it reasonable to expect the Sox to win, or at least come close to winning , the A.L. East in this his third year in charge?
  18. A little tip from the kitchen: Pasta should be served " al dente". Don't throw it against the wall. Bad idea.
  19. An abbreviated spring training. I guess we will now see a flurry of signings and trades before the players report to camp.
  20. It seems an agreement will be reached very soon. But there will be damage done to the game that will be hard to repair. It's really a shame.
  21. Harm , These type of discussions usually devolve into politics , so I don't want to get involved in it. I have not been to Baltimore in years , but I have a relative who was there for a few days recently on business. He said it was in shockingly bad shape and dangerous. Based on that , I would not advise going there at this time. That's all I have.
  22. Obviously , there is no question that MLB players are superior to the next level. The point is that , if you get past the name recognition and fame , it is still the same game. If Franchy was competing only against others of the same caliber , and that was all there was , Franchy would not be such a stiff.
  23. Ship of fools. The owners and players both. Fighting over a bigger slice of the already large pie. Meanwhile , the world is a mess and the USA has a multitude of problems. Meanwhile , sports pages are filled with talk of the NFL draft combine and potential trades and draft choices. Who cares about spring training and opening day ? Ship of fools.
  24. Robot owners now !!!!
  25. It's just a case of MLB trying to get more offense into the game. They think that is the big problem. They think more baserunners will increase fan interest. I seriously doubt that it will . The problems go well beyond that. Anyway , this is hardly a labor/management issue.
