  1. Sanitation persons.
  2. There are some things we are better off not knowing.
  3. The use of analytics and winning titles are two different things . There was a time when no one used analytics, and a time when everyone does. And somebody has to win the championship either way. Since this is the bullpen thread , please note that all four of the Sox' recent titles have come with a top of the line closer anchoring the bullpen.
  4. Mighty Mouse. Here I come to save the day.
  5. And others. " Ball Four" was scandalous before scandalous was cool.
  6. I am not complaining about winning titles. Just the opposite.
  7. " The Monster " There is a rather interesting story about Radatz in Jim Bouton's book . I'm not going to tell it on here.
  8. It's just one loss , but blowing the lead with two out in the ninth always seems to hurt a little more.
  9. There was no doubt in my mind that the Dodgers would re-sign Mookie. The idea that the Sox could trade him and then re-sign him was strictly a pipe dream.
  10. Personally, I expect the Red Sox to make every effort to win a championship. You can call it " all in " or whatever. " Wait til next year " is not a good battle cry.
  11. Sox management ( Bloom) has a philosophy of trying to piece together a bullpen without spending very much. It is a popular method among the analytical folks. A lot of that thinking comes from the disciples of Bill James. Sometimes it works. But is it really a good idea when trying to build a championship team?
  12. The game has changed. Managers are getting instructions from behind-the-scenes pencil neck geeks.
  13. Simply put ; there are too many ham and eggers in the bullpen. Ham and eggers will do what ham and eggers do.
  14. The Jays lost yesterday in much the same manner as the Sox did on Saturday. Took the lead in the top of the tenth, then gave up a two run walk off homer in the bottom of the tenth.
  15. I admitted that I was not an expert. I wasted too much time in the pool hall and missed out on the lab time. I do think that I asked a legitimate question though. One of our top pitchers is prohibited from competing in Toronto, and I don't think there is a valid reason for it.
  16. Is that your answer?
  17. Now , I'm no expert on viruses or anything, but it seems to me that the vast majority of people getting and spreading Covid are fully vaccinated. What exactly is the point of denying entry to a healthy, unvaccinated young athlete?
  18. It's the old thing about the pitchers being ahead of the hitters at this point.
  19. Pythagoras just rolled over in his grave, or wherever he is.
  20. Sox bullpen is a mostly rag-tag group. They will sometimes get the job done and give you hope, but how many of them can really be relied upon? I would like to see Whitlock in the rotation, but that will also hurt the bullpen. As I have stated so many times, in baseball today, the bullpen is vital. The role of the starting pitcher is steadily diminishing.
  21. Eovaldi and Pearce were good late season acquisitions. Definitely were assets. ( Eovaldi still is ) But the 2018 Red Sox were clearly the class of baseball. Dominant from wire to wire. One of the best teams you are ever going to see.
  22. I think the owners would like to use WAR as a means to control spending. Doubt the players will go along with that.
  23. Future Hall of Famer for certain.
  24. The ebbs and flows of a season are often schedule related . When you hit a softer stretch in the schedule, folks will perk up and comment on how much better the team is looking.
  25. I think that is a misconception that gets repeated enough that folks start to believe it. I think starters are just as hit and miss as relievers.
