  1. Thats exactly the approach I recommend. We know we have very limited resources available both in financials and in tradeable assets. There are some weak areas and perhaps an unknown with Pedroia. We may sustain other injuries in the next period. Clearly we all want to improve the team under these constraints. No great rush but a willingness to make needed moves is important and I think DD and Cora are people wiling to take action as they did with Hanley.
  2. Agreed. Going to left with two strikes on him is more impressive to me than if he pulled the ball.
  3. Chavis is available to return on June 26th. Since he was high on the prospect list, I would hope he can regain that status in a month of playing time. I understand the projection for him now is 1st base, so we really wouldn't have a spot for him there this year.
  4. He claims he unknowingly ingested the substance. At any rate, he is eligible to return to the minors on June 26th and the thinking is that they were going to try him at 1st base. We shall see if that makes sense for a 5'10" guy or that he stays with 3rd base. Since he was the number one prospect for the Sox, it makes sense for him to get back and try to develop into a useable player hitter for late this season or next season.
  5. E-Rod is doing his usual thing. Keeps the runs down but the pitch count up. 9 base runners in 5 innings and 95 pitches. He says he wants to throw more strikes but keeps on nibbling. He is getting it done but after a use of the BP last night it would have been good not to have to use them for 4 more tonight.
  6. On base 4 times in 5 last night and his 12th HR tonight. Beni is getting the job done.
  7. Right now he is likely to run into one once in a while. Lets see him do it more consistently and then you can hype him.
  8. Well, tonight he has left Betts out and since he has been well rested with 2 weeks off, it seems odd to me. Of course Betts may still be injured and that would be different.
  9. He hasn't played in two weeks and should be well rested. If nothing is wrong with him then why not play him. I just don't get the logic, unless something is wrong with him and if thats the case its scary.
  10. Today we have people throwing around racism comments where they don't apply. During his time with the Sox they were past the Yawkey days. One or two fans in a 36,000 group of fans using racist comments does not make the crowd racist and I wouldn't at all be surprised if similar fans shouting hateful comments can be found in any of the ML parks.
  11. Red Sox Scoring during last 8 games: 9 6 7 2 0 4 2 2 The last 5 games the scoring has been down and its a good thing our pitching was as good as it has been. With so little out of the bottom of the lineup and with Mookie just now getting back, it was probable that some of our bigger hitters would go through off periods. Moreland has been of late and JDM can't be a hero every night. Lets hope Mookie can get a good feel of ML pitching with a few more reps. The good news is Beni and Bogey still were productive last night.
  12. Ten innings and three hits and two walks. None by anyone not named Beni or Bogey. Our vaunted attack has been missing for days now. I really didn't expect Betts to get back in form tonight but we should be getting something from JDM and Moreland. Sooner or later our staff will give up a run and this game will be over.
  13. One way to get Devers attention is to send him back to Pawtucket for a while and tell him to make corrections of risk a long stay. So far he isn't getting the message.
  14. I think you confused your post and meant it makes sense to have Holt in the lineup over Nunez.
  15. Mookie is back in the lineup tonight which should help us regain a little Mookie Mojo. The team seemed to lack enthusiasm against the WS so maybe this will inject a little enery back into the team. Travis goes down.
  16. We could do a lot better in CF but under our constraints it won't happen this year.
  17. Had a double play been turned on a tailor made ground ball he would have been out of the inning where he walked some. The team seemed not to have a lot of energy today. Lots of play attempts were poorly made. He gave up 3 runs and at least one of them was due to misplays in the field.
  18. Sounds like they are treading water with Mookie while the news on Pedey is not positive. Mookie's injury is taking longer than they first indicated as likely so perhaps they really don't know what the problem is.
  19. Kind of a lack of energy out there and several plays which defined the weak effort. The tailor made double play ball to Holt at 2nd and his poor throw in the dirt which would have made a double play difficult for Bogaerts. Then Bogaerts not picking the ball for even one out. It resulted in a run and a lot of extra pitches. The ball hit by Moreland where he didn't hustle and would up with a single. No excuse for that. Moreland's inability to catch the ball at first also was damaging. Leon's inability to pick the ball and make the tag late Even Beni's not taking 3rd on a long ball to center field seemed lazy. Who knows, a pass ball and your home. So, a lack of energy and then the normal weak hitting down in the order. If we face good pitching our better hitters are not likely to get more than one for 4. Really, the Sox need help and having Mookie back would be a major step. Having Pedey back to anything like his old form would also help as he makes the plays at 2nd and may still be a threat at the plate. Hate to see us playing 500 ball as we will definitely not keep pace with the better clubs doing that. DD and the front office needs to consider alternatives to some of out weak players. I know it is hard to do with the constraints, but the alternative of doing nothing doesn't look like a good plan.
  20. Not impressive at this point. Part of the bottom of the order blues. The botob boys.
  21. Beni is much better when he pulls. He got a good pitch to hit yet it appeared as though he was trying to flare the ball to left. When he does that he takes away most of his power.
  22. Maybe Devers for Trout.
  23. Ever the optimist. Our catchers should hit better than the awful .450 start. Still not good though JBJ is going to hit .700+ . Think you are smoking something on that one. Bogey is better this year and if they can keep him in a good spot in the lineup the hope is he won't fade in the second half again this year. Beni does look for real. Moreland will get his extra base hits but I don't expect him to keep up at his current level. Nunez is a pro and will be a solid contributor but Pedey is an unknown. Will he play in a significant number of games. Devers looks like he will struggle this year. He needs to make adjustments at the plate and to date he has been slow to do so. He may need a threat of being sent down to realize he needs to change. Holt is a pro but is always going to be a fill in. Swihart shows little sign of contributing.
  24. be nice to have him back in the lineup as our main threat is now just JDM. Would have been a sorry thing to waste another strong starting pitching performance.
