  1. Only in Hollywood.... At $44M and having exceeded the tax limit last year, Dodgers will pay 30% x $44M plus 12% x $20M plus 42.5% x $4M = $17M (?) $17M on top of $254M really doesn't sound too bad. Plus they will be consistently drafting later in each round so I'm not sure how damaging that will be on non monetary penalties. It's like watching your neighbor get a new pool, new car and a trophy wife (and listening to your wife complaining how awful he is). Happy Valentines Day everyone. PS. They do have tons of money coming off after this year.
  2. I like the moves they've made. They've improved the team without weakening the farm on the heels of winning the Series. They are all in. And unlike the Sox, all $254M is in play. Sox only has $150M in play as we start the season.
  3. I endorse this lineup!
  4. If the stars align...for near future we have Verdugo 25 2021 2022 2023 2024 Devers 24 2021 2022 2023 Dalbec 26 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 2026 Enrique 29 2021 2022 Renfroe 29 2021 2022 2023 Cordero 26 2021 2022 2023 Xander 28 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 2026 Vazquez 30 2021 2022 Chavis 25 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 Sale 32 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 Eovaldi 31 2021 2022 Richards 33 2021 2022 Pivetta 28 2021 2022 2023 2024 Darwin 24 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 Tanner 25 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 2026 Mata 21 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 2026 2027 Seabold 25 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025 2026 2027 E Rod 28 2021 With a reasonably successful 2021, we can extend E Rod and sign a big piece, do a deal similar to Brauer, big money, short term. I'm talking about going over the limit by $39M. Pedey money comes off, last year of Price money (2022), If Rdichards has a good year, maybe trade for younger pitchers and use his money to go get a #1 starter. Ottavino money comes off too. I think we need to see what we got with couple of our younger guys in 2021.
  5. I agree with everything you're saying. We'll have clearer picture (I hope) after this year on what to do next. To me, every deal is bolstering our organization. I rather the team have flexibility as opposed to getting bogged down with unfavorable contracts.
  6. Pretty funny.....I would like to hear one player come out and say, "yeah that homer I hit against the Yankees, I knew what pitch was coming, I was looking for it". Nope nobody has guts to say it.
  7. Yep. I mean this in a good way. We've thrown enough crap at the wall. Hope few of them stick. It takes awhile to get to the top after cliff diving.
  8. Well, I'm going to simplify the 3 team deal......in my mind, Red Sox essentially traded Beni for 2 year control of Japanese reliever Sawamura ($$ works out about right). Red Sox also received Cordero and three players to be named later. Bloom wanted additional security in the pen. Bloom also wanted no part of wasting at bats for fast aging Beni. Beni was not in our future plan.
  9. I'm hoping we can sign him to a long term deal. I'd like to see the core group of Devers, Verdugo, Dalbec, Casas, Duran and Downs. (along with Xander and Valdez). Starting pitchers to include Mata, Houck, Seabold, Song and Groome.
  10. I agree. Look at the Dodgers. On the heels of world championship, they pushed all their chips in to win couple of more by signing Trevor Bauer to a mega, albeit short term deal. They're taking a $34M hit and increased their luxury tax payroll to $238M, $28M over the first threshhold. We have close to $53M on our payroll that's no active. So 25% of our payroll is not in play as we open the season. If we get into the playoffs, I like our chances with the starting pitching rotation headed by Sale.
  11. Again, you guys are looking to win the world series. Anything less is disappointing to the fan base. Dodgers finally did it but it was a short season and I think that helped them. You just never know the injury situation over a 162 game season. You really haven't told me anything NEW. We maybe in the toughest division but that alone won't guaranty a world series ring for you. You're top 5. So what?
  12. Bloom on high end FA... "There’s risks you’re taking on, too, and sometimes there are consequences down the road with that,” he continued. “What you don’t want to be is hamstrung when it really comes time to push some chips in because of some commitments you made earlier. That isn’t, to some degree, the position we’re in now. And look, it worked. All my teammates have rings here because of it. But you’ve got to make sure you’re flexible so you can really take advantage of those great opportunities when it’s really the right time for them.” Spoken in English.....my hand is not good enough to push all my chips in.....I need to see a better hand....
  13. That was not meant for you.......no doubt you're one of the biggest Sox fans......juggling can look amazing, we have several balls in the air and I curiously wait how many get dropped....
  14. Well that spending includes $16M for Price, $24M for Sale and $13M for Pedey. Bloom played no part in that. That's $53M not playing. Essentially our payroll is about $150M..... People here need to change out of their panties...We have 4 world series rings in less than 20 years, and next one will be our 5th. Go cheer for someone else......
  15. Uehara was big surprise....
  16. For younger players, this is why you may want to let the team buy out couple of years of free agency. Dustin collected close to $40M sitting at home the last three years. You think you're invincible, but life can throw you a major league curveball at any time.
  17. Mitch would have a pulled hamstring first time he THOUGHT about getting a good jump....as President would say, C'mon, Bloom.
  18. Lets' look at it in total context.... With pandemic and shortened sixty game season, I really had no problem Sox having one of worst season in memory. We had no shot at the world series or getting into the playoffs. Bright side was that we were rewarded with a fourth pick in each round (I'm guessing on rounds 2 and below). I really don't see any problem going over the limit and resetting our 'budget' as $228M. The penalty is measly $4M. I'm impressed with Bloom always garnering additional players, younger players in each trade he makes. Our farm system is getting restocked and I believe that will continue. As long as there are no long term deals, I'm really good with it. Sooooo, according to Cot's, we still have $28M to spend (plus $4M in penalty). Spend away....just no 5 year, $100M deals or bigger. (exceptions can be made by this board)
  19. Ottavino (via trade) and Renfro are only one year deals I see. Others have club options attached. It's possible Bloom is monitoring our younger players to see if there are developments this year leading to 2022 promotion.
  20. I was half kidding. For some reason Jacksonianmarch wanted to make a point about something. It went over my head.....
  21. Not sure why the Sox would be laughing stock.....
  22. Contracts coming up E Rod after 2021 Richards possibly being let go after 2021 Eovaldi after 2022 Sign him up....
  23. My only question is who was the idiot that left a reliever on the mound without recording an out while giving up 6 earned runs? I would love to see Aaron Judge throw sidearm.
  24. We're not signing JBJ....his agent's pride is at stake....
  25. I think that may be very reasonable....especially not knowing how expensive E Rod extension will cost....we also potentially have a one year deal for Richards. I just didn't want to get to 5 year $100M. I just don't want to pay out $36M per year as the Yankees did for Cole, not to mention $26M for Stanton. They also have some expensive youngsters coming up. Yankees also have set a high bar for themselves. Nothing short of World Championship matters. Sox needs to pick a future major leaguer with their 4th pick! Lets not do another Trey Ball.
