  1. Baseball has always been intriguing from numbers sense. We know how Bloom will run this organization. I always come up with STUPID ideas. My latest..... Can you put a major league team without a minor league affiliates if the league rules permit? My idea is you have 40 man roster and say maybe have a team in the independent league or beg minor league teams to borrow your players for a fee. You build a 26 man roster strictly through free agency. Can you save any money by limiting personnel side? As an example you have no need for scouts other than ones that scout major league talent. Are there enough savings to have a major league budget of say $250M? You draft players and give them $10K bonus and then trade them for a veteran. $8M per player for 26 players works out to $208M. You're GM and basically you scour available talent in major leagues. Sign free agents and acquire players via trades. Anyone have any idea how much it costs a major league team to scout and operate minor league affiliates? (I'm assuming it's just payroll, everything else is paid by the minor league team).
  2. Not advocating mind you, but if you are playing the percentages, you probably come out ahead by trading away high draft picks before they fail. We can't get much for Groome right now but maybe we could have in the year he was drafted. I'm advocating trading Groome his first year for say 3-1 deal with younger players coming back, not a veteran. Expand the chances of success. Trey Ball, who?
  3. I'm just not willingly to dismiss any players right now. Looks like Oakimey has proven track record hitting versus right handed pitchers. Assuming he's on our 40 man roster, why the hell not? Look under every rock to find a gem. Sometimes you're surprised. Maybe we should have signed someone like Moreland, a left handed hitter costing $2M or less. I think we have 4 hitters struggling year to date, Codero, Dalbec, Marwin and Renfroe. I'm not really wowed by Arroyo's bat. They all have reason for being on the roster. Do we do something when our 2-6 hitters drop off? Not saying they will. They are carrying the offense.
  4. Where can I donate to save baby eels? Doing my part to keep Dalbec playing baseball.
  5. If the team was set, ie a top 3 team with younger talent, and luxury tax was not an issue, then yes I would have signed Betts. But he was not going to be the difference maker with this bunch RIGHT NOW. Building a team is all about timing, bringing in several players at the same time. You many only have a window of couple of years. We're not there.
  6. I understand....
  7. Dodgers can afford to carry him both financially and baseball wise. I rather build a team around Devers than Betts. Mostly due to age and power. If we must have a $30M position player, it's Devers. He'll only be 26 (?) when he turns free agent.
  8. I'm with you on this.....it's just simple math. Dalbec is hitting about .300 vs left handed pitching. I believe Santana can play 1B and he's a switch hitter. At some point, I'm very willing to move away from 'player development' to team first for this team. Dalbec hitting vs righty issue can be addressed at another time. I think he has all of June to figure this out before he's platooned. It's incredible to me both Dalbec and Chavis struggle (Cordero also) with pitch recognition. I'd like to see Dalbec become more aggressive with first pitch. All three of these guys seem dead in water with 2 strikes, pitchers can expand the strike zone knowing they'll chase it. Not sure how to develop pitch 'recognition'. It's one thing to show Chavis what the high fastball outside the zone looks like with a replay, I think what's needed is a video of those pitches from his perspective, ie have him wear a camera looking at the pitchers. Maybe this can be done during special batting practice. Have someone throw nothing but boarderline high strikes zone pitches. Just a thought.
  9. I'm on the bandwagon for Duran but I've not said a word about Cass. We're in the playoff chase (yeah its early) right now. My only point is you do everything you can to elevate the team. That is the angle I'm coming from. Why not look at Duran or hell I don't care anyone else that MAY, MAY help us. Nope I don't want a rental to gut out any of the younger kids in our system. One thing I never thought of and many of you have is who is on our 40 man roster. We have some names on it for 'protection' only and very unlikely to contribute. So the pool of available talent is much smaller than 40. Although longer you get into 2021, some of those may be candidate for DFA'd. Maybe Moon can take a deep dive into our 40 man roster.
  10. funny.....when the game resumed, I doubt there were more than 100 fans.....all beer drinkers I'm sure.
  11. I just woke up (4:26 am) and had to check the score. Almost a 3 hour delay. I know that rain is unpredictable but they surely saw this coming. Umpire ("Looks like rain is coming, we'll go as long as we can but once we stop play, you guys have 90 minutes to resume play or I'm calling it"....wouldn't that be better?)
  12. Would they consider sending down Andriese to fully stretch him out (start in 3A) for starting depth?
  13. There is no formal limit on how long a rain delay can last. My radar says rain will clear out around 12:15 am. Can they really make players wait that long?
  14. Since our Yankee fan let us know of every Sox injury, I thought I'd return the favor. NEW YORK -- Corey Kluber is expected to miss a minimum of two months after an MRI revealed a strain of the subscapular muscle of his right shoulder, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on Wednesday. Kluber will be shut down for at least four weeks without throwing, then he would likely need that same period of time to build back up, placing his best-case return in late July. Kluber, who pitched a no-hitter one week ago in Texas, lasted only three innings against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Yep, it was only a week ago that he pitched a no hitter. So far Sox starters have been healthier than the Yankees. Looks like Brasier will return in couple of weeks for the Sox.
  15. Looking at radar, rain is here until 12:15 am. Will they call it?
  16. I think we all get that here on the board. Most are good baseball minds. Sunday's lineup was a joke but I understand why we have to do it. We have some veterans that need rest. Maybe there's no other way to do it other than to sit out JD and Xander on the same day. But I get it. It's a long season. That said, I want my major league team to have as many bullets as possible on its arsenal. Why, why, why not try someone like Duran especially when he's hot. I'm not saying TODAY. But to put an arbitrary number games or at bats in the minors is ludicrous as well. We're trotting out a guy that's hitting well below .200. What good has HIS AT BATS done? What about a guy like Marwin? He's very valuable on defense but we have several of those guys. I would do everything I can to shore up the lineup. I'm a big fan of Dalbec thinking he can occupy the 9th spot in the lineup. But if he needs to platooned, so be it. We bitch and moan during off season about Bloom not doing enough. Hell, why not turn every rock looking for an edge? What you afraid of? That you're going to hurt his itty bitty feelings? I bet if you asked him, he'd say yes to playing center field on a major league team. I doubt he'd say "I'm not ready, I need about another couple of hundred at bats".
  17. Yep, you are what stats say you are.......initially I mentioned that his BA of .230 was his career norm. But I guess his career ops wasn't so bad....... I've mentioned this elsewhere....I just don't see anything 'special' about Kike....a high energy guy whose offensive stats aren't so high energy.
  18. Sandoval playing for $1M. Here's a guy totally got overrated by Giants appearance in the playoffs.
  19. That's how you do it....Morton throwing strikes
  20. I don't see what the big deal is about Kike.
  21. Not sure if it's the starters getting into trouble in 6th but the bullpen definitely has been suspect, 6, 8, 9th innings do not look good.
  22. Boston Red Sox lineup 1. Kiké Hernández 2B 2. Alex Verdugo LF 3. J.D. Martinez DH 4. Xander Bogaerts SS 5. Rafael Devers 3B 6. Christian Vázquez C 7. Danny Santana CF 8. Hunter Renfroe RF 9. Bobby Dalbec 1B Basically the opening season lineup had Santana been healthy. Based on May production out of Renfroe, the lineup looks solid offensively. Dalbec probably has another month before being platooned if his numbers don't improve against right handers.
  23. Yep, if I'm Chavis I'll ask to be traded. He will never get fair shake under Cora. Cora has his guys. Cora values versatile guys yet he didn't give Chavis chance to work in outfield. It is what it is. I like Chavis. I hope he's traded and becomes a 30 homer type.
  24. I'm more interested in median runs scored than average. Think back to the Oakland series. What good does average do in that series.
