  1. Sure am glad Marwin's back. 0-3 with 2 k's. He's healthy again.
  2. Posters complain Houck can't be a starter because he struggles second time around Sure, he's the only one with that problem. Do we watch the same game? Date IP H R ER B K HR SP 8/03 4.0 5 3 3 2 5 1 Richards 8/01 4.2 3 3 3 1 6 1 L Pivetta 7/31 5.1 6 6 5 1 6 2 L Eovaldi 7/30 4.0 7 6 6 1 5 3 L Perez 7/29 3.1 7 6 6 4 8 0 L E Rod 7/28 4.0 2 1 1 1 7 0 W Houck 7/28 4.0 8 4 4 1 2 2 L Richards Be my guest, blow up the sample size and see if you come up different outcome. It's been bad since June 1st.
  3. July OPS of .641 for Verdugo.....he's dropped each month.
  4. Cordero is 5-13 with two walks since returning to Sox. All singles.
  5. We need them both. The lineup will be fine with Shwarber plugged into 1B. Sox needs to stay close to the Rays for next couple of weeks.
  6. Luxury Tax I blame player's union. Rate of luxury tax payroll was no near close to the rate of revenue increase. (there was an article) Obviously 2020/2021 was an outlier on revenue side. When Yankees are staying below the cap something is not right. Win win for owners.
  7. Richards at $10M with enforcement of previous rule was an overpaid. I bet analytical people are all busy looking at the spin rate differentials.
  8. I've changed my mind about the luxury tax. I just think it's no big deal to go over the first threshold and get to $230M. Penalties of 20%, 30% and then 42.5% equates to $4M, $6M and $8.5M. Even at 42.5%, $8.5M on $230M payroll to me is insignificant.
  9. As seen by recent slump all around, you need a line-up 1-9 to get through the 162 game schedule. You can't have two or three black holes in the lineup. Everyone here got on my ass about not being dependent on 2-5 guys. Mathematically it's pretty hard to sustain team offense with 4 guys.
  10. It would be criminal not to do it.
  11. Red Sox Stats On swings at pitches in the heart of the plate Dalbec misses or hits a foul 67% of the time, that is 4th most among 197 batters with 200+ heart swings. That's on top of his poor pitch recognition outside of strike zone. Love to love him but he sure is making it difficult.
  12. Tough loss for Pivetta...... After retiring first 8 batters, he walks the ninth batter in 4 pitches. The leadoff batter hits a home run for 2-0 lead. After a base hit, he throws a wild pitch, then a single brings the runner in. When the team is not hitting behind you, you can't make mistakes.
  13. see my signature....just two days ago.
  14. Well it is deflating to see other three contenders add and only guy we get starts off on IL for at least two more weeks.
  15. Cora still not worried about starting pitching?
  16. What's with walking the 9th batter these days?
  17. It'll be interesting to see what JD does. He'll make $19.375, Sox being charged $22M for Luxury tax purpose. I'm wondering trading for Schwarber was a hedge for JD opting out. Yeah I know he's a FA. Would Schwarber take a 6 year $90M deal? I'm an IU grad so I'd like for him to stay. His group turned the baseball program at IU. He hit 2nd and caught. He can hit. It's difficult for me to justify paying JD the same amount as Xander who plays ss.
  18. If Mata is left off the 40 man roster can another team claim him? If so are they allowed to move him off the 40 man roster to 60 day IL? If so why can't we do the same? Can someone explain to me the mechanics for someone like Mata?
  19. I feel bad for Rocker. But then I saw that Boras represents him. Rocker did not share his physicals with major league teams prior to draft. Despite Boras claim that Rocker is 'healthy', I think he tried to pull one on everyone. I would not draft a player that has Boras as his agent.
  20. Not doubting you but I'd like to see his exact quote and the question that was asked. Most business people I know is trying to improve the market value of the organization and they're more concerned with increasing the top line. Many assets are valued by revenue multiples.
  21. I'm glad you're not a Red Sox fan. On one hand you come here and trash us but then you pile on when we discuss possible solutions. We're hopeless according to you. Your tone is that we can't do anything to improve. Whitlock will be a starter next year. You probably don't think that's doable. I wouldn't put anything past this Rule 5 pick that Yankees failed to protect. Adding Sale and Whitlock to Eovaldi and Pivetta will be a good start. I'm sure Bloom can find pitching depth. 2022 outlook is better than 2021. We're not starting over. We're building on top of 2021.
  22. $13.750 Dustin $02.800 Beni $07.150 Ottavino $10.000 Garrett $08.300 E Rod $05.000 Perez $02.100 Andriese $03.000 Darwin $52.100 Total We have enough money to sign an elite starter. Best way to improve our 26 man roster without giving up a player. NO EXCUSES THIS WINTER FOR BLOOM
  23. I always say it's ultimately players' game. In reality, Bloom has done everything I've wanted. Whitlock and Houck has progressed in our system. They look like keepers. It remains to be seen where Pivetta falls in rotation. #2/#3 or #5. I'm leaning towards #5. Darwinzon appears capable of giving us one inning off of clean start. Bases loaded, no out with runner on third? He may be able to get you three strike outs. Or he may walk the winning run on 4 pitches. Taylor can be solid lefty. Overall, he's had good year. Kike has played the way I'd imagine Cora foresaw. Renfroe is better than I expected. Duran finally brought up. It's up to him to make some contact in order to help the team. Dalbec was given plenty of opportunity. I don't think they'll give up on him but with his high K rate, what role does he have? Arroyo will be solid addition to the team. Starting or off the bench, he's a gamer. Needs to stay healthy. Vaz is Vaz. Unless we have someone better, we're stuck with him. JD, Devers and Xander are our main offensive threat. Just as we've upgraded our rotation from 20 to 21, improvements must be made to our starting rotation this off season.
