  1. Just a general comment. As Moon often has said, Sox fans tend to 'overvalue' their prospects. When looked through the 30 team spectrum, we're in the lower half. We're far from NOT sniffing the luxury tax line. Not sure how much money is available this winter if we still can't go over the $210M mark. No one has convinced me that Pivetta, Whitlock and Houck can't be a starter along with Eovaldi and Sale. How much upgrade can you make without going after a #1 type pitcher that will require massive commitment by the club? Who is out there for less than $10M that will be an upgrade over Pivetta, Whitlock and Houck? Bullpen needs reinforcement despite having 4-5 solid guys. Kike, Renfroe, Xavier, JD, Devers, Verdugo, Arroyo and say Schwarber looks good enough to be on a World Series contending team. I'm okay with the starting five, maybe re-sign E Rod and move Houck to the pen. Can't have enough guns in the pen though. Ok, missed the money part on Moon's outstanding post.... We have $40M to sign Schwarber(?), E Rod or Greinke, a top line reliever.
  2. Yeah, look what others did to our bullpen. Toronto guys salivate thinking about our pitching staff. Good hitters foul off good pitches and destroy mistake pitches.
  3. Years of Team control 2022 and beyond Position Players 6 Duran 5 Xander (opt out after 22) 5 Dalbec 3 Verdugo 3 Arroyo 2 Devers 2 Renfroe Starters 5 Houck (maybe 6) 5 Whitlock 4 Sale 3 Pivetta Bullpen 4 Taylor 4 Darwinzon 4 Valdez 3 Barnes 2 Brasier. 2 Sawamura Not a bad list.... If this were the Rays....Xander would have been traded earlier, Devers would be traded this winter, Sale would have traded earlier, Barnes would have become FA or traded....
  4. 5. Now that Sale and Schwarber are active, much of disappointment is dissipating. There just seems to be urgency now to this season. Schwarber's rehab game on Thursday was rained out. Sox just said hell with it and put him in the lineup on Friday. I like that. Dalbec is heating up. Kike has been hot now 3/4 weeks? Renfroe is steady. Duran will help. Brasier should be back. Arroyo should be back. We're finally playing the hot catcher more. Verdugo needs to pick it up offensively. JD, Devers and Xander have been very solid overall. Our rotation is shaping up and pitching better. Hopefully Richards and Perez can contribute in the pen. It's definitely far from being over.
  6. 1.389 Dalbec in August...keep the hot bat in the lineup
  7. Which again proves the point that it's always better trade one of them for two prospects again and again if given the opportunity. It is crapshoot. More players you have better chance you'll get some decent major leaguers.
  8. Third year penalty for going over by say $10M is $5M. How much money did we have to match Moncada acquisition? It was TONS more than $5M we're worried about.
  9. I suggested this couple of years ago. Whatever team you're with when you are eligible for Rookie of the Year, that team is your designated 'home' team. 'Home' team can have one exemption each year (it can change player from year to year) on one single player and caps luxury tax payroll at say $20M on said player. So we could have paid Betts $30M, but only $20M would count against the luxury tax payroll. What if we then sign Devers for $35M? He's also a 'homer' so you can now count Betts at $30 but Devers only at $20M. Player's union would love this. Sox would not have to count $15M of Devers annual salary because he's 'homegrown'. This encourages teams such as Sox to retain fan favorites. Sale's AAV is $25.6M. Sox would have 'saved' $5.6M for another quality reliever.
  10. 1.389 for August!!!!!
  11. Dalbec OPS creeping above .700 with a homer today. Maybe the patience will pay off.
  12. When it comes to Sox player getting hurt, my trusted source is jacksonianmarch......he's usually the first to give us the bad news...
  13. Verdugo should have stayed home and worked on his diaper changing skills. He'd be a hit with his wife. He's 0-4 tonight.
  14. Bobby, Bobby, Bobby....
  15. Unfortunately with our pen of late, it's not over. We better score some insurance runs.
  16. 6 innings, 3 hits, 1 HR to 9th batter, 93 pitches Call it a day.....good job.
  17. Nope...sit next to Vaz.
  18. no way he goes 7...only 10 times has our starters gone 7.0 innings
  19. It's clear cut who should be playing if you go strictly by OPS....assuming Schwarber can play 1B. Vaz on the bench. Verdugo has the lowest OPS among the starting 9.
  20. I don't see Bloom giving up a top farm guy for a rental. I think he intends to go after Schwarber. At worst he can DH and play LF. We have 40 some games to evaluate him. He's a natural hitter.
  21. Spoke too soon... What is it about our pitchers and 9th hitters?
  22. See Pivetta can have a shut down inning....that's what you do after given a 4 run lead.
  23. Here comes our K twins....
  24. Starting Schwarber without rehab stints indicate urgency of his bat.....we're running out of season.
  25. got to jump on them...
