  1. I really need help in learning what Steve Matz brings to the table that Danny Duffy doesn't. Matz' name seems to be getting thrown around a lot more than he actually deserves...
  2. Come to the Dark Side...
  3. Yes. They usually do it by weighing projected salary vs projected fWAR and deciding if the player is worth it. This is not a surprise. I doubt he gets non-tendered, unless Oakland also tries to re-sign him for less.
  4. Maybe it's a simple as taking Jon Gray (5.8 fWAR over the past 3 years) over reigning Cy Young winner Robbie Ray (5.9 fWAR over the past 3 years)...
  5. That's not the same as saying "we want no names". It just means that star power and Q factor won't be the driving forces...
  6. They probably just move the ones with the biggest projections - Olson, Manaea, Chapman, and Bassitt. Maybe even just 3 of them. If I had to guess one who stays, I would say Bassitt, since he probably has the least trade value as the oldest and only one year of control left. That he projects to make the least of the 4 probably helps, too. One never discussed name on the list that might interest Boston is Chad Pinder. Good overall player, but he does not really excel either offensively or defensively (at least at 2B). But he might be available, doesn't make a lot of cash, and plays a slew of positions, which is something Bloom clearly values...
  7. McDuck was a fraud. All that money and yet he never splurged for pants?
  8. No. He thinks they are looking at Jon Gray, but they need to look more closely at J Gray. Maybe he meant Josiah Gray. Maybe you assumed too much.
  9. Oh please. No moves until 5:59 ET. We all know it...
  10. The only pitchers on here inlcude one guy with a ton of mileage who simply isn't the pitcher he was 5 years ago, one guy coming off a very unrepresentative career year and one guy who hasn't thrown as many as 133 IP in a season since 2016...
  11. And yet the Red Sox took Josh Rutledge that way...
  12. Technically we don’t lose anybody until the Rule 5 draft…
  13. Whether or not Kike is the “best Sox centerfielder of all time” is a moot point. He’s the best centerfielder they have today…
  14. Well, didn’t that depends who else is unprotected? A lot of teams have roster crunches this time of year and leave good prospects exposed…
  15. That was my post. And I’m context, I only said Downs would be promoted over non-40 man player Ryan Fitzgerald. It had nothing to do with Bogaerts and Devers…
  16. Fans do that with any player. “Players A and b were up at 20.” Or “ That other team promoted their prospects. Why don’t the Sox?” Because it’s not all equal everywhere!!
  17. IThe last two offseasons have moved along at glacial paces. I fully expect this one to as well, but so far, even the small amount of activity to date has been surprising...
  18. Think he still gets to play OF?
  19. I mistook the dates. The bottom line is it took him a long time to get going, but he did get going...
  20. Those situations were completely different. Taillon was frequently injured and eligible for arbitration for the second time, and was getting more and more expensive, and had missed all of 2020 with his second TJ surgery. And was only controlled for 2 years. Reynolds shows up for work every day and still makes minimum wage for another year, and is not eligible for free agency for 4 more years. If the Yankees want Reynolds, the price will definitely include at least one player you don't want to give up...
  21. I doubt he comes back, but if he does, it won't be as a DH for 2022. He'll need a glove for at least one year...
  22. Agreed. I am still waiting for the Sox to be linked to Cesar Hernandez, who makes more sense than Taylor for a slew of reasons....
  23. Still listing Gettys as an outfielder, I see ...
  24. And a lot of guys had massive setbacks in 2021 as well. Just because not everyone was affected doesn't mean no one was. Even you pointed out Downs didn't get going until July, and has been doing very well in the AFL lately...
  25. Schwarber in LF, Verdugo to CF, Hernandez to 2B. They could fit him in, but it's not exactly a stellar defensive outfield...
