  1. I do believe that there are topics he wants to avoid and others he cannot/shouldn't talk about. When Tom Brady is listed as "Questionable" every week and plays every Sunday, none of us suspect it's because Belichick is unaware of Tom's health...
  2. I really don't get how Ortiz' clubhouse popularity equates to baseball smarts. Or how Betts and Bogaerts were a pep talk away from MVP candidacy...
  3. Stanton also has a full NTC and might reject the Yankees and Sox. He is an LA native. While this guarantees nothing, I don't recall any player ever turning down a large market, defending division winner hometown team. The Sox chances rest solely on Stanton's desire to challenge the Green Monster...
  4. I agree . Fire Cora. Waiting to find out who the manager is before calling for his head is so 2017...
  5. Years of control is a big part of it, so it will slide unless he signs an extension. Even with more control Ketel Marte ( who was mentioned as a non-factor in that deal) can't seem to take charge in a volatile and unspectacular Arizona middle infield. And really, Nick Ahmed to Boston instead would be just fine with me. The Diamondbacks could drop in Socrates Brito or another player. The White Sox are the unpredictable team in that deal. Travis is a stopgap (like Marte) and they would want at least one good prospect. But if the Snakes are getting Bogaerts, they should certainly give one up...
  6. And yet Bogaerts still ranked 45 on Fangraphs midseason trade value, unlike anyone else in that deal. Of course, whatever prospects CWS and AD agree upon can change anyway
  7. Hmmmm... no. 66 players with at least 400 plate appearances had a lower offensive fWAR than Pedroia. Are you saying you could advise about 1/4 of tje starting position players in MLB?
  8. Marte might necessitate the Sox sending more. It's very situational at that point, since I'm not sure how they value him. I wouldn't consider dropping him to be a deal breaker. I also don't think he'll be better than Bogaerts at any point...
  9. Ok. But I'm confident those sides can work something out. I do think the Dodgers would prefer to keep Buehlet and Verdugo. Joc Pederson might be in play...
  10. Thtee way deals are tough to predict, but one that makes some sense might be the following: Arizona gets Xander Bogaerts. White Sox get Pavin Smith, Jon Duplantier and New Lenox IL native Sam Travis. Boston gets Jose Abreu and Ketel Marte.
  11. That seems insanely light to me too. I predict Stanton goes to the Dodgers for a package that includes Puig and someone like Walker Buehlet, Alex Verdugo or Willie Calhoun. Probably Calhoun I'm souring on Ozuna/Bradley swaps. That seems like a buy high/sell low scenario. Both Bradley and Ozuna are worth 7.3 fWAR over the past two seasons. A straight up swap would be fine, but makes less sense for Miami.
  12. You're a doctor, right? At some point, doesn't Dombrowski talking publicly about players' medical histories and diagnoses violate HIPPA Laws. He probably has some authorization, but is there a line he can't cross? If so, doesn't it make sense to just duck the question?
  13. Your signature implies you want at least one more move...
  14. Did he talk about it in a press conference? So this thread is a bunch of people complaining Dombrowski didn't know or talk about surgeries, as if his opinion on the subject matters. On another thread is a bunch of people trying to give hitting advice to Dustin Pedroia and Mookie Betts. Can we get a lower thread?
  15. Verlander makes Stanton money for the next two seasons. If you want Stanton instead, this does become an "either or" scenario...
  16. Without Sale -no post-season. Especially true after Price went down...
  17. Right. So they should clean house and replace the current team and personnel with as many changes as possible. The far more likely outcome is a team where the last few weeks don't matter....
  18. If the garage can play first and bat fifth, that's all we need. Except possibly replacing the down payment. ..
  19. The Red Six went 93-69 and won the AL East in back-to-back seasons. They then fired the manager, which many fans wanted. Now some want to also fire the general manager. And get rid of the second baseman. And shortstop. And the DH. And the hitting coach. And get two new power bats. Does the team have to go 162-0 before fans think "maybe a little tweaking?" If the Sox were 161-1, alot of people would be calling for Farrell to be canned. And probably Dombrowski too...
  20. The problem is it's hard to keep a guy like Nunez in a bench role, especially when his next team is his choice. Are we so excited when that superb is Brock Holt?
  21. Pedroia is fine. Thete are plenty of lesser performing players on worse deals. I don't understand anyone who wants to dump Pedroia and bring in Duda. This was a good team. Why are people trying to clean house?
  22. Pedroia is going to be playing 2b for the Sox next season, despite his detractors. It's exactly as Ben Franklin said way back when "Three things are certain in life - death, taxes and Dustin Pedroia at second base in Boston."
  23. A stretch that included onr world series title...
  24. Offerman was a Dan Duquette signing. Remember his surprising press conference? "Jose Offerman is one of the best offensive players in the game." Many vilified him for that quote, including yours truly. But it did turn out to be right...
  25. The forty point difference in OBP shows the advantage that one extra ball can give. Not sure if the slugging advantage is a product of the aggressive hitting or a statement about the types of hitters who swing at the first pitch....
