  1. He holds very little value. Any team that wants him, which won't be very badly, will be more than willing to see if he becomes a minor league free agent. Sox backup catcher is probably his most likely future...
  2. It would be nice to see Swihart get some action at 2b and 3b this off-season. OF didn't start out so well but it shouldn't be done either...
  3. Especially on the heels of a 13-6 loss. Let's not over analyze this...
  4. Hanley's outfield defense was surprisingly bad. But getting a hitter into an AL lineup isn't some arduous task.
  5. Agreed. But the strategy might become to employ the bullpen in that fashion for the 4th and 5th starters, enabling many teams to use cheaper pitchers in the rotation for two slots....
  6. Did they cool off waiting or just face a better team or did the odds catch up with them? They were something like 21-1 going into the WS. It should be no surprise when an unsustainable pace is no longer sustained...
  7. Farrell isn't a great manager. He's average, maybe even above average. But people want a great manager. And anything less is a weakness. (Of course, Francona was a great manager and easily one of the best in team history and fans complained about him, too. ) He isn't Butcher Hobson or Bobby Valentine. It's probably easier to get a worse manager than a better one, despite many of the complaints.
  8. They weren't going to get one for what they were giving up. Anyway the Sox seem to always have one of these Dave Roberts-Quintin Berry types ready for the post-season. ...
  9. The only way the Sox get Stanton is through done complicated multi- team deal that will never happen Like Cleveland sends Kyrie Irving to Miami and Boston sends two Celtics first round picks plus Marcus Smart and Michael Chavis to Cleveland....
  10. People are sick of complaining about Price and ready to embrace the idea of complaining about Arrieta...
  11. I guess that's why you're the mvp...
  12. The bullpen woild certainly look a lot better if Smith and Thornburg weren't lemons. It might not be so bad if Barnes, Hembree, Kelly and Abad were all pushed back two slots. Of course, why Farrell likes using Barnes and Hembree against the top and middle of the order while saving Kimbrel for the bottom will always mystify me...
  13. A little scope creep? Sexism and racism are irrelevant here. You called out Price for his treatment of Eckersley which, while immature, was also clearly what the rest of the team was thinking. Exactly why is that so reprehensible that we need all of the references to how it would be treated in our own places of work? This is not about sexism, racism or money and entitlement. The mention of those things is just moving the goal posts...
  14. Love it. A big part of this story is because he's having an awful season. Do people think that if Price was putting up Sale numbers, the Globe staff would be proposing "Hey let's do a story on how immature the star pitcher is!" Sale was the same way in Chicago last year. The press was able to make him look bad because the team was awful. Sale didn't suddenly turn into an a-hole at age 28...
  15. Exactly. Where I work, a bunch of people got in trouble for berating Bert Blyleven and had to be let go. Or, this didn't happen but attempting to compare MLB jobs to the regular workforce are stupid. What Price did was childish. It probably wasn't his first childish action and won't be his last, something that applies to a huge chunk of MLB players. If he wasn't such a non-factor this year, his personality would probably be much less of a story...
  16. Curse Farrell for not acquiring Rajai Davis mid-game!!
  17. The time for that type of gamble is back in March. Right now Pounder is far, far more likely to be a problem than a solution. ...
  18. There's a two way street. You also need to figure out how many extra wins, and yes there are some. The team that has run into the second most outs on the bases is Houston, whose offense boasts 3 MVP candidates. If the Sox had that type of firepower, I could see questioning their baserunning. But they don't, and the aggressive baserunning might be doing more good than you realize. And focusing on the outs as stupidity while ignoring the safe plays doesn't change this...
  19. Who remembers Tyrion's wedding? Probably the leasy exciting wedding in the show by body count...
  20. Of course one could argue that censoring history is the most likely path to repeating it... pas
  21. Exactly. I would imagine there were a few racists among the Founding Fathers, especially the ones who owned slaves. Should we close down the USA and revert to being a British colony?
  22. I'd rather have a "What the f*** is This?!?" button
  23. Wild Card games are playoff games. In fact, two teams that tie for a final wild card spot would have to play an additional regular season game in order to determine which one goes to the wild card game. Given how tight the AL is this year, we might see that actually happen..
  24. Herb Washington didn't work out as a pinch runner with amazing speed. But he remains the only player in MLB history to appear in 100 games without ever batting,, fielding, or pitching. Also he's the only player ever to have his position listed as "PR" on his Topps baseball card. I believe former Blue Jay outfielder Junior Felix was also a track runner who was recruited for his speed. But he was clearly more athletic and had more baseball skills than Washington. Also that story could be completely false...
  25. But you said he wouldn't deal Stanton to Boston for fear of how Yankee fans will react. I say not only will he not consider Yankees fans opinion and do what's best for Miami, but Yankee fans wouldn't care. If anything, they'd be angry at Cashman for letting it happen. And that does count the extremity regard they hold for Cashman right now...
