  1. The toughest tongue twister name in MLB…
  2. Significantly. Also very likely to command a significantly bigger paycheck. He very well might be worth it, but Thor also has a lengthy injury history. I’d be wary of a long term deal…
  3. Marte to Oakland for Jesus Luzardo. If Luzardo finds himself, that Miami staff has some serious talent…
  4. Jimenez came back 2 days ago and hit a 3 run home run yesterday. Robert is expected back in early August, so maybe next week…
  5. I also have vastly different feelings about team cheating vs individual player cheating. Is that hypocritical?
  6. Well, it’s always in the last place you look…
  7. So… are you saying that adding Jimenez and Robert will not make the White Sox one of the best teams in the AL?
  8. Stripping them of the title really does nothing. They already has played, won, celebrated, has a parade, made their money, received bonuses, etc. They already enjoyed all the perks and a pencil mark in the record books wouldn’t change any of that. But yes, strip them off draft picks or something going forward. The ownership and management has already enjoyed the benefits of winning. Time to make them experience the financial windfall of losing. If all that happens is you fire a GM and a manger - something two teams completely uninvolved in the scandal also did - it’s not exactly a penalty that discourages repeat behavior…
  9. Or the teams that bang their garbage cans the loudest…
  10. But they also have been without Jimenez and Robert all season. Would the Sox be above .500 against better teams without, say, Bogaerts and JD all year??
  11. Who did the Dodgers add? And, no, Billy McKinney does not count…
  12. The White Sox are far scarier than the Astros. They’ve been dominating the AL Central without arguably their two best hitters. One just came back and the other is expected back soon…
  13. … which means he wasn’t a rental?
  14. Wasn’t that exactly my point?
  15. Boyd was unranked. That he has worked out better than the flop Norris is inconsequential for this discussion. If the Sox traded Jeter Downs and Jon Arauz for Scherzer, it is theoretically possible Arauz could become an All Star and Downs never got out of AAA. But the more valuable piece at the time will always be Downs…
  16. Not Machado? Not a pitcher but absolutely a top tier addition who does have Hall of Fame potential himself…
  17. The Astros added RHP Kendall Graveman to their pen. The Dodgers haven’t been any more active than the Red Sox so far. The big movers to date are the Rays, who been buying, selling and renting, and the Padres and Mets…
  18. We could argue about whether or not a player is “Scherzer level”, but certainly renting Manny Machado in 2018 cost nothing, unless you’re a big fan of Dean Kramer. Machado was certainly an elite player, although not a pitcher. In 2015, the cost of renting David Price did involve a highly ranked Daniel Norris. Whether or not you think Price’s significantly younger age at the time was a factor is debatable. Obviously extending 30 year old Price felt like a smarter move than extending 37yo Scherzer will be, but I don’t know if Toronto ever even considered it a possibility or just viewed him as a straight up rental…
  19. Maybe, but even those deals are very uncommon. Can you think of any other deals where a team dropped a top 100 prospect for a rental?
  20. Not sure what the Nats want for Scherzer, and yes he will probably be worth more than his BTV value, mostly based on how many teams get involved. But no team is breaking the bank for him and unloading their top prospects. If Scherzer returns a top 100 prospect, it will probably be somebody ranked below 70 and that piece is probably the only one going back. He’s not going to be cheap, but other teams are not going to jeopardize their future for 2 months of him, either…
  21. It also comes down to what other teams need Rizzo. Any other contenders that one thinks could be looking for a 1b or DH?
  22. Per BTV, a Rizzo-Dalbec swap is fair…
  23. Another versatile name to consider is Asdrubal Cabrera. One year dirt cheap contract makes him an inexpensive rental who can still handle 1b, 2b and 3b. His .701 OPS vs RHP isn’t much but is still an upgrade over Dalbec…
  24. Am I the only one who found it surprising that Trevor Williams, Matt Moore and Jose Urena got MLB contracts and Porcello didn’t even get a minor league deal? I’m sure money was a factor at some point. But Matt Moore?
