  1. He’s not a smart hitter. He just hacks, which works some of the time, but can and will be exploited by good big league pitchers. It’s who he is. He could benefit a lot from a guy like Ortiz, who was a very smart hitter. There was an article in the Globe the other day that Papi said only one Sox player has had regular contact with him this year. It’s Dalbec.
  2. Devers comes up small. Again. You gotta hit the ball there Raffy.
  3. One more inning for Civale? Hopefully? Rays pen can’t be any more effective than Civale has been.
  4. Doing exactly what the guys in the 4th inning didn’t do. They swung at a bunch of balls. Urias was the only one who fell behind swinging at strikes.
  5. Yeah, I think Casas was looking fastball there. I thought initially it was a change-up that got him.
  6. As Hawk Harrelson used to say, you can cancel the post game show.
  7. Did you see Xander’s adventure yesterday? Stole second, went to third on a bad throw, center fielder over threw 3rd, Xander broke for home, throw bounced off something behind 3rd straight to the catcher and Xander was a dead duck at home.
  8. Civale is dealing; he’s going to be tough to do much with. Even the balls are looking like strikes until the last instance.
  9. I think he walked Arozarena semi on purpose. Which given the way that guy hits Sox pitching isn’t the worst idea.
  10. 3 ground ball hits, 2 of which were not particularly hard hit, just hit into good (or bad) spots. There is a big difference between crappy pitching and bad results. You really should learn the difference.
  11. September call-ups don’t work the way they used to. Teams used to be able to call up their entire 40 man roster if they wanted to. Some teams called up a couple players, some called up 10 or more. That is no longer the case. Starting September 1, every team must maintain a 28 man roster with a max of 14 pitchers. Those extra 2 players can be swapped with other minor league guys over the course of the month, but you no longer have endless options on the bench or in the pen. If you want to give a bunch of rookie playing time to show what they’ve got, you have to do what the Angels did and DFA multiple veterans.
  12. Next year is (supposedly) the last year of Bloom's contract. He either needs to be: 1) extended now (or soon after the season) or 2) fired now (or soon after the season) You can't have him running the team as a lame duck He could do serious short and long-term damage in that status. I'm prefer option 2.
  13. I’d have left his ass in there to take the pounding.
  14. I was listening to a Sox podcast earlier. They were discussing Bloom and ownership; one of the hosts mentioned that Liverpool fans are having issues with what Fenway Sports Group is doing in regards to spending on that team. You are correct; none of us has any idea what Henry's thinking/vision/goals are. (no pun intended on goals)
  15. Got to remember the roster expands to 28 on Friday. No more, no less. You can move guys up and down, but I believe you are still subject to the 10 day minimum rule if somebody is sent down. Bringing players up to see what they’ve got isn’t so easy anymore.
  16. The Red Sox always do well the first 18 years of a century. Let’s just hope they don’t repeat 1919-1937, when they were mediocre a few times snd downright terrible the rest (2 seasons with winning records, 1 at .500 and a lot in the .300s)
  17. I was referring to a potential Valdez no-hitter.
  18. Bush needs to be the first one fired. I can’t think of anyone who has actually improved under his 4 year tutelage. Quite frankly, in looking at his background, I’m not sure why he was qualified to be a major league pitching coach in the first place.
  19. Well, Turner ends any reason to continue watching this debacle.
  20. It’s a fundraiser for the Jimmy Fund. Get over yourself. If it bothers you that much, put it on mute.
  21. Duran being done for the year isn’t going to help the Sox cause.
  22. If he’s knocked out, how does he stay in to die? Knocked out means he’s not in the game anymore. If you meant knocked around, the answer no. A Baraclough is one thing. They aren’t going to mess around with a Bello. Some low level bullpen guy will do the honors. My guess is Jacques, who is back up in place of Baraclough.
  23. Way too many pitches. Bello has to figure out a way to put guys away a lot earlier. Doesn’t have to be a K, but he can’t take 8-9 pitches to get a ground out.
  24. Yeah. Good catch.
  25. Re. Kike, if they didn’t resign him, do they get Turner and Martin? It’s an unknown what if any role Kike played in their “recruitment”.
