    Wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened to a player. It can do that to players and teams. 9-10 years ago the Sox went into the ASB a pretty hot club; after the break they started on the West Coast against the Angels and proceeded to get swept in a 4 game set, scoring 4-5 runs total. Then they went somewhere else and got swept again, effectively ending the season for them. Let’s hope we’re not going to see a repeat.

    Freeman had a lot of timely big hits against the Sox when he was with the Braves. He hasn’t lost the touch.

    Been a long time since I umped, but I’m pretty sure that the rubber is considered part of the ground, so the situation you described would not be an out. You may be thinking about a ball hitting a base that is caught on the fly; that is an out (home plate is the exception, that is also part of the ground).

    Stone with a kick save and a beauty it was.

    It’s even worse when you dig deeper into it. 22 of his RBIs have come on his 16 home runs (12 of those are solo shots). He’s only driven home 9 runs all year on anything besides a homer. That is mind boggling.

    Refusal to even try and use the wall at Fenway might just be why he’s Lefty Joe Lunchpail. With one exception, successful Red Sox lefties have learned to use the wall, and that outlier was a different animal than almost anyone who ever swung a bat.

    Because it’s not hard for a lefty who is willing to go oppo to flick a ball 320-330 off of or even over the monster. How many times did we watch Boggs and Ortiz and Lynn and Devers do just that? Yaz did it early on as well. A righty who does the same thing to right ends up with an easy fly ball out.

    In somewhat of an oddity, it’s the second time this year that Houck and Anderson have combined on a 4-hit shutout of Oakland. In both games, Houck went 6 innings and Anderson 3.

    Exactly. Medina held the O’s to 1 run over 5 innings in his last start and only gave up I run in 6 innings against Arizona the time before that. He’s either been very good or very bad.

    And other teams do? What in the world are you going to get for Valdez other than a C level prospect who’s still in A ball? Years ago when the team make-up was 15 position players and 10 pitchers, he may have had some value as a pinch hitter, but those days are long gone.

    Gil may not be all the way back to how he was pitching the first couple months, but tonight he’s not the guy of his last 3-4 starts either.

    I know Cora challenged Duran to play every game this year, but his bat looks tired. I could see a day off soon. I know people here hate it, but Tuesday vs. the A’s would give a two for one. Especially since he won’t get the ASB off.

    There’s a reason Anderson isn’t used in high leverage situations. He’s there to do what he’s doing today, eat up innings in a blow out. If he holds the other team down, good. If he gets knocked around, doesn’t matter.
