  1. That's fine. But I'm always a little skeptical when somebody posts 12 hours later what should have been done, especially when they were on the game thread at the time of the move.
  2. Slash, much as I hate doing it, I'm about to insult you. When it comes to Price, you are starting to sound like andrewmitch used to about Buchholz.
  3. Bull. If you thought that, why didn't you post it in last night's game thread after the 7th inning or during the top of the 8th? There was nothing going into the 8th that indicated Price was at his limit. Two grounders and a fly ball on 10 pitches in the 7th. a700 and I disagree when the bullpen should have been up/when the reliever should have come in, but that is at least debatable. Stating that a reliever should have come in to start the 8th is 20-20 hindsight of the worst kind.
  4. Any post that suggests that Hanley should be playing LF has to be farcical and deserves it's own thread if only to avoid mixing the legit criticism of the manager in the other thread with the ridicule that will pointed at the poster in this one.
  5. Plus I think they said Cano lifetime was something like 1-11 against Abad.
  6. No, Hill will start playing most of the time at 3rd with Holt occasionally spelling him; he has been a regular most of his career and will likely perform much better with regular playing time, Holt is still not at 100%. They are not going to put Moncada at 3rd base (or 1st) during a pennant race when he has never played an inning professionally at either position. Even if it's not long term, wrist injuries are nasty for hitters. Papi had that miserable year after having one and Pedroia may be the poster child on it.
  7. That's 20-20 hindsight. There was no reason to think Price would lose it that fast.
  8. Again, the homer and 2 singles (one a bloop came on 4 pitches). The pen started up after the bloop. How fast do you think he can react. Weird thing is Zunino was 1-12 off Price and Cano 1-11 off Abad and both homer.
  9. Was that even a strike?
  10. The homer and first 2 singles came in 4 pitches. That's not a lot of time to get anyone warm, even with the pitching coach visiting the mound. And there certainly no reason to have anyone warming to start the inning.
  11. Pretty weak grounder; obviously not ready.
  12. If you are going to bring past performance in ... Pedroia has spent virtually his entire career in the top 3 spots in the line-up. His weakest spot has been leadoff, his best spot has been 2nd. Leadoff - 645 PAs, .279 BA, >341 OBP, .412 SLG, .753 OPS 2nd - 3822 PAs, .300/.367/.448/.815 3rd - 1226 PAs, .300/.368/.435/.802 Pedroia has said he doesn't like leading off and his career stats show it's his worst spot (unless you want to drop him way down in the line-up where he hasn't been since he probably was a rookie). Again, for the most part this year, offense has not been the problem.
  13. Now that could be correct; Victorino was hurt early that year. But one has to remember that Bradley hit .189/.280/.337/.617 in 2013 and followed that up with a .158/.213/.263/.476 spring training in 2014 (for what that's worth). Let's not pretend his offensive performance had screamed "I should be starting". If you want to say 2014 ST meant nothing, then 2013 didn't either.
  14. As of June 17, 2014, the Red Sox had played 72 games. Bradley had played in 66 of them (starting 63 with 57 complete games). Sizemore had played in 52 games (starting 48 with 44 complete games). They were obviously both in the line-up at the same time a lot. Sizemore was released on the 18th. They were not keeping Bradley on the bench because of Sizemore. (all stats courtesy of Baseball Reference Game Logs)
  15. Yeah just saw that. Sox haven't updated anything on their website. Layne must be out of options since Abad took Light's spot on the 40 man. Leaves the 40 man at 39 right now. Might herald a Moncada September call-up without having to do another move. Or that Swihart may be back in September?
  16. That would be a nice statement except it's completely wrong. Bradley played 113 games in CF that year (he played 1 in left and a dozen in right) and hit .198. Sizemore played only 18 games in CF, 14 in LF and 24 in RF. By the time Bradley went down to Pawtucket in late August, Sizemore had been gone a couple months. A year after first bringing him up, not a month. Swihart had some issues defensively (particularly on blocking balls in the dirt). Frankly, he didn't look any better early on this year than he did last year. Now, they may have overestimated Vazquez' ability to hit, at least so far, but I think they had decided that Vaz was the franchise future at catcher and, given the less than stellar output in LF this year, decided that Swihart was athletic enough to do the job. Unfortunately, he got hurt.
  17. If I'm counting correctly, the Sox 40-man is full. At least as of a few minutes ago, Benintendi is not on it, so who goes to make room? Brentz is staying with the big club for now, so it's not him. Martinez/Marerro? Or does one of the underperforming pitchers go instead (Layne, Johnson, Owens).
  18. Everyone keeps talking about a period of adjustment. Let's hope Red Sox Nation actually allows that and doesn't start declaring him a bust if he has a few rough games at the start.
  19. Yeah, but Leon has to block it, not ole it. Did the same thing with Tazawa last inning.
  20. That's 2 that Leon has messed up tonight trying to backhand a curve in the dirt.
  21. Will Kimbrel have time to warm up? Edit - Seattle manager helps out with a pitching change.
  22. I know it's not over yet, but you were saying?
  23. If true, that may well have been Brentz's final AB for the Sox.
  24. Now the pitch to Lee was a mistake. He did his job but has been out pitched.
  25. This pitcher is dealing. He's throwing strikes and most have been in really good spots. Hasn't been a lot to square up.
