    Problem is no one is hitting right now. Let’s face it, if two of Verdugo, JD, Bogie and Devers aren’t hitting, the offense is going to do nothing, and right now none of them are hitting.

    It’s been said ERod has ace stuff; I haven’t seen it over the course of his career, but he should be a solid #2 guy. What he doesn’t have is an ace mentality.

    If he’s placed on administrative leave, he can be paid. If he’s suspended, he will not get paid.

    Because Cora at this point is managing the marathon, not the sprint. Using the back end of the bull pen in a game you are losing is SOP for major league managers. If those guys to the job and hold the score as it is, great. If they don’t, nothing’s really lost. If you look at your list, the top 5 guys are the ones who are going to be used when the Sox are ahead. The others are going to be used when they are behind. That can change come September, but right now it’s not going to.

    He may get a couple more outings (in games like today) to show if he has anything, but if he doesn’t (and he probably won’t), a DFA will not be long in coming. It will be no later than when Brasier comes back or they decide Workman has earned a 40 man slot.

    Any announced make-up date? Lots of common days off, June 7, 17 and 21, August 23, September 16, 23 and 27; I didn't check where the teams were playing around those dates.

    Barnes will pitch the 9th unless the Sox take a big lead in the bottom of the 8th. Sawamura will come in for Hernandez if he gets to the Marlins right handed hitters. Edit - like now.

    Hernandez is the real box of chocolates out there right now; you really don’t know what you’ll get from him. Seems like it’s either great or bad, seemingly very little in between.

    He’ll regress a little, those numbers aren’t sustainable to that level. That being said, the angst here over him has been basically unfounded. He had 2 awful outings early in April which make his season look a lot worse than it’s been. May’s been excellent and he was pretty good the last part of April as well.

    Yep, now 4-46. His issues are usually walks.

    Can’t, he has to face 3 hitters or finish the inning.

    Taylor’s numbers in May going into today, 10 games, 7 innings, 1 hit, 3 walks, 6 Ks. 3 really weak hits and 2 Ks today in an inning. He’d have been better off with harder contact today. The dribblers would have gone for outs and the ground rule double goes foul. It’s baseball.

    I pretty sure that the umps are required to wait a certain amount of time before they can call it: I want to say it's 75 minutes but don't quote me on that.

    Workman's on a minor league deal; he's not on the 40 man roster.

    Unless they've changed the rules, you can't trade recent draft picks for one year. It's one of the reasons you sometimes see PTBNL take a long time to actually be named; the player can't actually be officially traded for a period of time.

    For those who went to bed early: Taylor started the 7th; hit the first batter (Acuna, well the umps said he got hit), got Freeman on a deep fly to left and then induced Albies to tap a soft grounder to second base that the Sox just missed turning into a DP; Cora brought in Ottavino, who got a foul pop by Riley to end the inning and then set the Braves down in order in the 8th. Sox scored 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the 8th on a walk to Bogaerts, a ground rule double by Renfroe, an error and a SF by Vazquez. With the 5 run lead, Andriese started the 9th, got one out and then surrendered a bomb to Contreras. After a single by Acuna, Cora brought in Barnes who got Freeman to hit into a game ending DP. Final 9-5

    That depends on what type of first strike thrower said pitcher is. If he tends to throw the same pitch in the same spot most of the time, sure, have at it. If he throws a lot of first strikes but the location and type of pitch vary, then you have to be disciplined enough to look for a particular pitch in a particular spot. If it's not there, let it go.

    Catcher doesn’t get the putout if there’s a throw to first; catcher gets an assist with the first baseman getting the putout. And Bellhorn is right about it being something no one cares about.

    Au contraire, I saw a pitcher (Ryu) who kept our hitters off balance all night. Up, down, in, out, changing speeds and putting the ball exactly where he wanted it. Every pitch had a purpose and he executed extremely well. He’s a very good pitcher and you saw it on display tonight. He’s now pitched 12 innings against Boston this season and the Sox have scored in exactly 1 of them; they got 4 off him in one inning back in April at Fenway but they did little else; the other innings were pretty much a carbon copy of tonight.

    He was at 94 a couple times early, which is higher than it’s been. It went down as the pitch count mounted, but with men on constantly, every pitch seemed to be a stress pitch.

    Watching Ryu tonight showed what a good pitcher can do. Every pitch he threw was with a purpose; one set up another and he had pinpoint control. He knew exactly what he wanted to do and did it. It would not have mattered how well ERod pitched tonight; Ryu was masterful.
