  1. My vote goes to Cora.
  2. Every clubhouse has its soap operas. How did the 2004 Sox win with Orlando Cabrera coming on to all the players wives? How about Manny's antics or Pedro and Schilling not getting along? That stuff has nothing to do with playing baseball or managing a team effectively on the field. Francona was accused of the some of the same crap you are leveling at Farrell. It didn't stop him from pulling off the greatest comeback in ALCS history.
  3. I don't think Dombrowski had a chance at all to sign Encarnacion. edwin_encarnacion_says_he_signl
  4. And I didn't even mention managing the bullpen. But I can't be sure if he is joking or not.
  5. I guess you are joking. It's hard to tell.
  6. On June 10th, the game was tied 3 to 3 in the top of the 7th with Sale still in the game. Sox scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th. Barnes came in to pitch the top of the 8th. September is Sales swoon month. By the time you get there, it is too late. Sox were also still fighting to win the division at that time. You are over simplifying it.
  7. I agree on Devers. His defense showed signs of hope. He just needs to learn and practice so I hope he commits to doing so. He could really become a big power hitter on this team.
  8. I don't think it will be that easy. You still have to win games, and Sale was one of their best weapons in doing that.
  9. It depends on the price of limiting his pitches. It could lead to more losses if the bullpen can't do its job. Sale played a big role in getting the Sox to the postseason. Scaling him back could undermine that.
  10. Not a fact. Your opinion. I come here to express my views. I can't help it if there are views I disagree with. At least I refrain from personal attacks, such as this post I am responding to, which is a small sample of what you send my way.
  11. Maybe so. They all seemed to under perform this season. Still not sure what their potential is and if they can maintain it. All of them had bad cold stretches through the season. The league is adjusting to them and maybe this year was a period of adjustment for them. I hope they learned something and can respond positively next year.
  12. More straw man. Total misrepresentation of what has actually been posted.
  13. The Astros also eliminated some high strikeout hitters from their lineup: Carlos Gomez, Jason Castro, Colby Rasmus. And Evan Gattis' playing time was greatly reduced. That helps too.
  14. But I don't really see where the Sox need some drastic change in their hitting approach. I don't see that they even have a team hitting approach at all, but they prefer players who are selective and take a lot of pitches. This seems to be an organizational approach to the type of hitters they favor. But I don't see that every hitter follows the same approach and I don't think there needs to be one.
  15. Why will our current crop hit better for a new manager? Adding Stanton improves the offense and has nothing to do with who manages.
  16. Chris Sale swoons every September. A new manager will be challenged to change that. Was the drop off in hitting Farrell's fault? How much impact will a new manager have on that? If Dombrowski brings in a big bat it we can't credit that to the new manager. The Red Sox lost because they were not as good as the Astros. They also weren't as good as the Guardians and the Yankees.
  17. I like that suggestion.
  18. You don't know what a straw man is. No one has made the claims exactly in the way you have stated them. That is a straw man.
  19. Farrell was not to blame that his team was not the best team in the AL postseason. But I hope the new manager puts a stop to the aggressive base running philosophy.
  20. Straw man alert.
  21. So do most MLB teams. There is always room for a "little" improvement.
  22. This is the first time anyone claimed that they won because their talent overcame their lack of fundamentals. I don't think the team was as sloppy as others claim. If it was, it is highly unlikely talent alone would overcome it enough to win 93 games. Their numbers don't even show them as the top team left in the playoffs so they are not even the most talented team to make the playoffs. And outside of Beni and Hanley, there is little evidence of massive amounts of boneheaded plays, sloppy play, and lack of fundamentals.
  23. Devers has the potential to be a good fielder. He has shown flashes of it already. I have no problem with Hanley's attitude or production, when healthy. I just can't shake my pessimism about his long term ability to stay healthy.
  24. I never claimed that playing sloppy baseball led to a winning record. There are some who claim the Sox played sloppy baseball all season and made a massive amount of boneheaded plays. I question this assessment. And for those who saw massive amounts of boneheaded plays, sloppy play, and a lack of fundamentals, how did the Red Sox manage to win the division? I would have thought you were describing the 1962 New York Mets.
  25. The kid was brought up so fast because of the desperate need for offense from 3b he never got a chance to develop his defensive skills in the minors. We could be in store for some rocky on the job training.
