    Can some one please tell me how the Cubs power rating (by ESPN, I think) are higher than the Sox? They don't compare in any category. BA, OPS, SLG -Sox way ahead in all. Maybe they're all from the mid-west.

    Huh? All pitchers are one sore arm away from Tommy John surgery. It has taken the Sox 3 years to mold this outfield, and I think I would stick with it. And Sonny has not been all that sunny so far!

    I thought this had to do with athletic ability as applied to baseball. Also, the little grey memory cells sometimed play tricks with us older guys. Some here have mentioned the 1975 team as a criteria. In 1975, Yaz hit .269, had 14 HR and 87 RBI's. To get the real Yaz, you have to go back to the mid-60's

    The very fact that we have a comparable situation is what is amazing. I think you're right if we're talking the early stages of these careers vs the established group in 1975. Maybe I'll get ambitious and make some numbers at similar stages. But even then, numbers do not tell even half the story,

    It's my impreession that Mookie does a lot of "thinking"; maybe tinkering is a better word. He does so many things on the field that the BA number is not worrisome. Who scores from first base on a swinging bunt?

    It’s VERY early. But these guys are 24, or so, kids. They are blending off each other as the others did not. And the comparison includes the unusual speed and bade-running savvy the others did not have---at least to this point. They are also benefiting from the tutoring they are getting from Papi, Chili, Hanley, etc. The futire looks brighter than I have seen it for a long, long time.

    Yes the Williams, DiMaggio, etc, and the Yaz, Evans, etc. may have put up better numbers than will the Swihart, Bradley, Betts combo, but this group will "save" more runs (and games) in a month than those combos did all year. Any doubters? Is it too early to go out on this limb?

    I thought they might leave Clay in there today, and finish it off. Might have been a big boost to his confidence. (I know-- If he blew it----ughhh_)

    It's time that somebody in the FO should recognize that getting a player from the NL is not like getting an AL player. This has been evident for a long time.

    And if you're 5'8" and using a 42 ounce hunk of lumber, you'll be lucky. to hit .125. The best thing young hitters can do is watch 105 lb. Japanese lady golfers hit the ball 275 yards. Upper body turn, timing, hand eye co-rdination, maybe? ?

    The eye-ball test never fails. He just does not have the stuff he once had, The move is even a little late, I think.

    Tonight's crew (Colorado) turned out to be much too dull, but I kept going back and forth to hear what they had to say about our guys. Not much that we haven't all heard before! I agree the Yankees are the worst, but the Rays guys are right there. (and I have to listen to them when the Sox play them. I'm in their black out zone (Ft Myers)

    One of the advantages of having XtraInnings. Tonight I can watch some of the game on the Colorado network; see what they're thinking out there re/JBJ and our six .300 hitters!

    Why was this thrown in with the Castillo thread. Considering how the situation has changed I think it should stand on its own. I see no reason bring Castillo into the conversation. He's in Pawtucket hitting about .250!

    I'm hoping for a JBJ-type miracle. Swihart's Walk to K ratio was horrid last year. Looking at stats was not even necessary. In just a few games he seems to be much more selective. I have long thought that Holt is terrific in the role he has played. He seems to go great guns after being on the bench a little while. I think Swihart deserves at least a two to three week shot. facing lefties. The way guys go down daily for short periods of time will keep Holt busy enough. Betts, JBJ, Vazquez and Shaw are the only "regulars" not hopping around for one reason or another. And it's a long, long season.
