  1. Why leave buch in so long????
  2. why the heck did they leave buch in so long? Fire farrell!!!! Dfa buch
  3. Aye, laddie, that he sure could do!
  4. I think I responded to this even then, but I worked in Bartow for 2 yrs while in college. One night, I got a call from one of the day workers, a lady with a tearful voice saying her grandmother had died and she wouldn't be in in the morning. Ten minutes later my super walked into the office and I told him the sad news. He chuckled a little and then apologized, "Clarky, she got you, newby! She's worked here for over 10 years and my guess is her grandmother has passed away about 13 times."
  5. Outstanding
  6. Max, Therein the wistfulness of Manny NOT being like Papi in the OP. So much to like about Manny but his poor personal behavior spiraled downward the last few seasons. I never stopped liking him, but the behavior v. the traveling sec. made it clear Manny being Manny had become more than just a dude clowning around.
  7. I don't remember who said it, but of Manny's love for hitting, it was said he would play baseball on the dark side of the moon if only hitting was involved. (Or something like that ...) I loved watching him at the plate ...
  8. Absolutely! I don't think we will ever see a Manny/Papi duo either ..... We were the fortunate ones.
  9. With all his haters, that is really nice to hear - or read, Slash!
  10. A wistful look back ... at missed opportunity ... What a season Big Papi is having, Manny! What a career he has had, Manny! How he is being celebrated, Manny... If only you had been as wise as your former bat-tery mate! Imagine, Manny being Manny all the way to the honor and love, the respect and admiration, expectation and sense of upcoming loss ... It could have been yours as well, Manny! With your sweet swing, your batter's eye, your launching pad power ... How many more World Series would we have celebrated together? How different would we all have seen you had you chosen to be a team mate instead of being self serving and childish. David Ortiz will forever be admired in the annals of Red Sox history ...the face of the team, the spirit of the City, the core of three World Series championships/ Oh, Manny, we loved you! We delighted in you! We thrilled when we saw you select your black 34" bat and threatened the mere mortal 60 plus feet away... As Big Papi makes his final rounds with the possibility of a season like none other, and possibly another championship, just imagine what that might have meant to you, to us. I thank you for all the pleasure you gave us, but just imagine if ...
  11. Thanks for the set up. We got Wright because he wasn't used in the AS game. But someone already surely said that.
  12. I agree, Dojji ... nothing profound in my post, just agreement.
  13. I am sure this thread will be melded with another one, but Hugh I am kind of excited about the trade. I know Espinoza was the trade bait and you hate that but I was looking into Pomeranz before I heard of the trade. I think things will be very good considering ... our immediate need.
  14. Hehehe .... I've been very very busy, but I came back and find that Maxi is still saying the same thing he was when I left! It reminds me of when my wife was pregnant the first time, 36 years ago. The last 11 days she had toxemia and had to be in bed rest. I would spend most of the mid day with her in the hospital and the soap opera General Hospital was on with Luke and Laura in the first stages of their misspent careers. Four years later, our second son was born and Luke and Laura were still going on and on ... Seven years later my wife's kid sister had her second child ... and Luke and Laura were still going on and on and on .... Maxi ... relax, old friend. )
  15. Not sure, S5 ... but a lot of teams used to have a chaplain or someone like that that would have various types of worship/prayer times/devotionals. I do know that when I was a child - 50 plus years ago, this was a particular issue in my faith group that made many say the big boys were sinning because they did not make Sunday holy unto the Lord. That was before we found out that many pros went to worship even before they went to the ball park or got together and worshiped when they got there. I am not Roman Catholic, but the Hall of Fame NFL coach Don Shula went to Mass every morning on his way to the office.
  16. So far, no one has taken me out on an illegal slide, so I'm cool.
  17. Max, I will put my 2 cents in here. I appreciate your opinion, but I would not be one who thinks it would be better or worse overall. It would become a non-issue. My sons played high school tennis. There were no umpires/line judges. The kid serving called in or out. Simply put, that should be fair. Unfortunately, there were a half dozen or so that they played against that were very selfish and called all their serves in when they clearly weren't. I was "an unpaid adult assistant." I never missed practice or games. Fair is the issue. It is a constant. It would have been nice then. It would be nice now. Then, budget limited the moment. Now, there is no need for that. I have no issue with the calls being automated. There is a part of me that FEELS it wouldn't be quite the same, but when it comes to the game itself, I'd be all for it. As the saying goes, then we could see where the chips fall. If we lost more games in a fair setting, sobeit. Under-inflated anyone? Another place that automated would be a sure bet. Who woulda thought you can't trust humans to be a half pound off with hot air? Wink wink.... Oh oh, I'm going to have to hurry off.
  18. Aren't we all waiting for Pedey to grow up? Just imagine what he could do in a man's body instead of a high schooler's. (Or in my case, junior high) Oh wait, I better take that all back. Pedey was Dad's favorite player before he passed. I think I just felt him roll over in his grave. (Like most of us, he loved how much Pedey put into every play and how much he got out of that little frame.)
  19. I was Mopar, if you know what that means. We grew up with the non-GM, Ford products, actually, so sorta Mopar by birth - if you throw in Rambler/AMC as well. So K Cars helped, but they were poorly built. Heck a lot of Detroit was then. I still love Chargers/Road Runners, Challengers, and Javelins but I'm even fond of Gremlins. If the wife would allow, I'd probably own a Cube (I like the unusual, but that is too ugly for her). As it is, I can't drive - seizures. But I ride my bicycle to work three miles a day. I just sprang for a new Schwinn, after always owning a Columbia or Huffy ... I wear them out about every 18 months. Anyway, it's a throwback to the 1950's style... I spent more than a buck fifty, which is half again what I usually pay.
  20. That be me, in most cases. All I need is pompoms to complete the picture for a cheerleader. An old, ugly cheerleader, for true but ...
  21. I know, I know .... a moment of weakness. I'm usually unwilling to post truly initial negative stuff. I fight being negative especially when there is so much more to be positive about. Now you know .... heh. As to the sky falling, if I had taken just a second more to consider the Kelly/Buch game the day before was similar to watching Chrysler develop K-cars back in the day. Exciting, fresh, ... no completely unimaginative and barely more than Yugos of the next decade. In all honesty, now that I've had my nap and am ready for the new day, we are going to have this kind of series with the O's more often than not. They have HR power at every position beside batboy. Sometimes we will control it and sometimes it will hammer us.
  22. And his younger brother's name was something common like David.
  23. Indeed! And thanks Southy for her name!
