  1. Yes, more than fielders. That was my point. This also assumes players getting better or not is often due to good, okay or bad coaching, I guess.
  2. CLE scored 3 in the bottom of the 10th to beat NYY 8-7! Sac fly.
  3. Yes, I got so excited, I forgot he let up a run.
  4. Yes, I mentioned he had 5 BBs, before today.
  5. MLB's Best 12-3 NYY (7-7 in the 10th*) 10-4 MIL 11-5 PIT 10-5 KCR 11-6 LAD 9-5 ATL 9-5 CLE (7-7 in 10th*) 9-6 BAL 9-6 DET 8-6 CHC 8-6 CIN 9-7 BOS 12th best *CLE has 1st and 3rd with 1 out in 7-7 game with Yanks.
  6. All the ALE teams won, today, except NYY, who is up 7-5 in the 10th.
  7. Still no runs allowed for Jansen.
  8. He led the league in saves, the year after leaving LAD (1.047 WHIP in a 64 IP, while leading MLB in games finished w ATL) That year, LAD had 43 sva and 18% BSvs (70%,) while jansen had an 85% save rate.
  9. WOW! Jansen with an excellent Kimbrell impersonation!
  10. Why? Devers will be over .800 by September, and maybe .850+. Yoshida might end up at .750. I never worry about Devers' O.
  11. Trout and Ward coming up next--- YIKES!
  12. He didn't let up a run in the 1st game. This was the first all year. Not even any unearned runs.
  13. He hasn't let up a run, this year, but this looks bad, and 5 BBs before this was not a good sign.
  14. IMO, defense seems more instinctual and not something that is learned as much as pitching and hitting. Of course, there are many examples of players who vastly improved on D, over time, but I think it is more about inherent skills and ability than something that can be improved upon with good coaching- like hitting and pitching. Just my take.
  15. Devers is not a "good hitter?"
  16. Bello got his ERA down to 3.52. The lowest he got, last year was 3.74 after 15 starts.
  17. Yoshida actually flied out to LF before hitting that homer. Mayb e he's snapped out of his ground out to 2B funk.
  18. Did anyone mention Bello and Pedro as being near equal in skills?
  19. fWAR leaders in pitching 0.8 Crochet, Detmers, Wheeler and Bieber (out for season) T8. Crawford & Houck 0.6 T30. Pivetta 0.4 T53. Whitlock & Slaten 0.3
  20. As much as our farm has been bashed, and rightfully so, for not producing quality pitchers for over a decade, maybe this year will prove we underestimated what we have gotten, recently. ERA leaders in MLB (10+ IP) 5. Crawford 0.57 7. Pivetta 0.82 (was a product of Philly) 14. Whitlock 2.26(NYY farm but added as a prospect) 32. Houck 2.04 56. Wink 2.79 (9.2 IP, started with KCR) That's 4 pretty decent pitchers, so far.
  21. He's at 4.19 ERA, now. He was at 4.06 after first 4 starts of 2023. Maybe this is who he is, which is not bad, but not number 2 material at that rate. I think he can and will improve over the next few years. Is a number 2 his ceiling or his expectation? I'd say yes and now. Maybe a solid #3 is a good expectation.
  22. It would be a miracle.
  23. Bello 2023: 6.27 after 3 GS 5.71 after 4 GS 3.22 next 18 GS 7.04 ERA last 6 GS (4.06 after first 4 GS)
  24. O'Neill has had 24 PAs with men on base, but was walked 5 times, so he basically has 4 hits in 19 ABs (.211) Ward has 26 PAs with men on base, but just 1 BB. His BA is .462 w 3 Hrs and a 2B. He's hitting .429 with RISP (15 PAs.) Our best BA with men on .421 Duran (20 PA)z .375 Wong (8) .357 McGuire (14) .333 Abreu (9) .320 Yoshida (28) .308 Story (15) RISP .667 Wong (3) .600 Abreu (5) .600 Duran (11) .375 Rafaela (11) .364 Yoshida (13) .333 Story (11) .300 McGuire (10)
