  1. We even graduated some decent pitchers, but yes, we have seen a pretty impressive uptick of significant farm infusion in recent years. I'm sure I left some people off this list, but here is a stab at listing meaningful call-ups over the years: 2016: Beni 2017: Devers, Brian Johnson, H Velazquez, Josh Taylor 2018: Marcus Walden, Beeks (traded) 2019: Dalbec, Chavis, DHern 2020: Houck 2021: Duran, Whitlock, Wong 2022: Crawford, Winckowski 2023: Casas, Bello, Kelly, E Valdez 2024: Abreu, Rafaela, Slaten, DHam, Booser Certainly more in RED, recently. Maybe 2025 blows these other best years out of the water.
  2. Is there a single poster that has said they expect us to make the playoffs? I'm not sure I heard anyone say that, even before the ASB.
  3. Yes, indeed. The last legit non-homegrown starter we added to the team was Nate at the 2018 deadline. Granted, we did not see a big hole in the rotation going into 2019, so we can't say the rotation neglect started then, but the pen neglect did. The list of names is pretty sad, with the best ones being via trade (Pivetta) and Rule 5 (Whitlock.) The best FA addition was Wacha. That's it for over 5 years! This is not rocket science. Everyone has known this was our weakest area, every season since 2020. Very little has been done to fix it.
  4. Who among them is not a "yes man?"
  5. Second half records: 8-13 this year (53-42 1st half) 30-41 2023 (48-43 1st half) 30-39 2022 (48-45 1st half)
  6. He's not going anywhere, anytime soon, and that's a fact.
  7. According to soxprospects.com, these prospects will be MLB ready, next season: Early '25: Mayer, Teel, Meidroth Mid '25: Anthony, Fitts Late '25: Campbell, Dobbins, Jordan, Penrod Already seen time in the bigs: Sogard & Horn Graduated in '24: Rafaela, Abreu, Slaten, DHam & Booser
  8. The fans in Portland will be bummed. I wonder how long they stay with Woo. If another year of control is at stake, maybe we hold off on some MLB promotions in 2025, a little bit.
  9. Of all the naysayers on this site, this clown chooses me to call out for "bailing" when I never even came close to saying or implying it. (Not that there is anything wrong with bailing, anyway.)
  10. He sure looked pretty good for almost a full calendar year.
  11. They will try to sell the idea that Gio, Henriks and Fulmer were the big additions for 2025. The sham will go on.
  12. So, opening day 2025, it stops?
  13. Will it ever end?
  14. He was, and that was a pretty hefty signing, back then. The mid level signings carried that team, too.
  15. POR pulled off a 9-8 win. Campbell & Anthony both went 2-4 with a homer and BB (Anthony also 2B'd). Teel went 3-5 w a 2B. Woo's game was suspended, down 4-2 after a 2 run Dalbec homer. GRE was shut out 5-0. SAL is up 2-0 with Arias 2 for 2 with 2 rbi. Duffy went a strong 5 IP w 7 Ks and 0 BBs (3 hits and 0 runs)
  16. What makes that even worse is that even if they did great, we might not have one more win.
  17. I'm not sure 2013 fits that bill. While $15-16M a year was pretty pricey, back then, Lackey was the only guy making that kind of money on a deal loner than 2 years. He also was not such a super productive isigning, although 2013 was his best season with the Sox. Lackey's ERA+ w LAA: 123, 127, 150, 119, 115 w BOS: 99, 67, N/A, 117, then traded after a 111 start to 2014. The next largest contracts on the 2013 team? $26M/2 Papi & Dempster $39M/3 Vic $30M/5 Lester $41M/6 Pedey
  18. Nobody is arguing any of those points. We all know Betts was traded while Bloom was the GM. Most agree JH forced teh trade. Few remember DD came close to trading Betts in 2019 for the same reason Bloom ended up doing it: JH. The thing is, even if we all agree 100% on everything associated with the Betts situation, the topic would never just go away.
  19. There were many pitchers signed, last winter, at reasonable deals that are doing very well. Some, that many of us liked, such as Monty, have not done well. Others like Lugo, Imanaga, Flaherty and several more would have been great gets, by Brez, but instead, we got Gio. Gio cost more than Kluber, Richards and Wacha, combined.
  20. We've scored about 40 more runs than HOU, this year. They have had better pitching, despite having way more injuries to their rotation than we have had.
  21. I think we should start talking about the loss of Carlton Fisk for nothing, more often.
  22. The Betts discussion will never go away. It shouldn't, either. The Babe Ruth topic lasted over a century. Pitching is the top need area, for sure, and is deserving of much discussion, but that does not mean talking about other things means we no longer think pitching is the biggest problem. A related issue to pitching is spending. They have gone hand-in-hand for years. Trading prospects for pitching is also a related topic worthy of debate.
  23. To make matters worse, when we tried to change the philosophy of relying on oft-injured pitchers by trading one (Sale) and signing a "durable" SP'er (Giolito,) we get that one horribly wrong, too. That being said, the Astros have something like 5 of their top 6 SP'ers on the IL, and are streaking into the playoffs.
  24. One understated fact about all those winning seasons the Sox had starting around 2003 was the fact that we let some very productive players bolt, before they reached their declining years. Some still hurt like hell, and a few we wish we never let go- like Beltre and Lester, but for the vast majority, we made the right choice. Even the Damon departure worked out okay for us. When Ellsbury bolted, many were pissed off, but wow- nice job, right? Many hated letting Beni go, and he did have a couple good seasons afterwards, but right now, he has one of MLB's worth fWARs among everyday players. We made plenty of mistakes on some, but we did well letting many go, when the time was right, just right or nearly right. Letting Betts go, was a big mistake, but he did say he wanted to be a FA. DD acted on that, and the rest is history.
  25. Agree on all points, here. I do think Betts was DD's top priority, and once it looked like he was dead set on reaching free agency, he did what he should have did: he locked up our next best players. The budget was not ever going to be endless, and the fact that DD could not even bring back Kimbrell and Kelly in 2019 proves that point. If we couldn't bring them back, how can anyone think Betts was still "on the table" after 2019? Our new spending in 2020 was a joke. 2021 was not much better and we barely replaced the contracts dropping off the books in those years. We never even replaced Porcello's money, Bett's arb money and half Price's money.
