  1. Maybe best "overall" 3Bman.
  2. That would be a sight to see!
  3. Let's give Devers some time to let this settle. Nobody can blame him for being upset, especially in light of the promises made to him a couple years ago. Sure, we wish he handled it differently, but given time, I think his position will soften. If not, we'll have to deal with it- one way or another. One quote not reposted, often was this by Raffy... "... I'm open to listening..."
  4. It's the only way he plays, if Devers is at DH.
  5. I think he will, too. Let the anger wear off. Give it time. He will hear what others are saying and maybe get more angry, but I think he comes around. I hope he keeps enjoying the game he seems to really love playing.
  6. Sounds like they did not. They talked to him on Friday. He said, “It was definitely a surprise,”
  7. Didn't Devers say this was the first he heard of it?
  8. We will almost certainly add a pitcher from outside the system, during the season, but I am not sure we have ever had this many pitchers who look like they could see some time in the bigs, already in the system.
  9. Hard not to get giddy over the path our farm system is taking.
  10. Agreed, but you do try to get that best employee to make less mistakes, right? Nobody knows how long Devers will be upset, or to what extreme. I, for one, can't blame him, since the team made promises to him, just a couple years ago. I will ask, what about the vet that has been around as long as Devers and is really great at one aspect of his job and pretty damn good at the others- Bregman? Just because he seems willing to do what the team asks, and knew going in he may play 2B, does not change the fact that he is may be asked/told to move from his sweet spot. Bregman is a real pro and a great teammate. He's willing to do what is asked, so his stake means nothing in this whole choice thing?
  11. This is one reason I have suggested offering him a try at 1B, but at this point, I'm not sure if that only fans the flames or makes it better.
  12. I totally understand Raffy being upset, especially in light of hearing him say he had a "really good" defensive season, last year. I have said the same thing: they should have spoken to him, as soon as they felt Bregman coming to Boston was a real possibility. (Maybe they always felt Bregman was a longshot, so they felt, why upset Raffy over nothing, but waiting a few days after signing him was not wise. I hope Raffy decides to do what is best for the team. There is one aspect to this situation that is not really pertinent: Devers does not need to stay at 3B to build up value for a big FA payday, ahead. He has his big contract that will pay him the same, whether he's a DH, a 1Bman or a 3Bman. I hope this does not turn into a long-standing cluster ____.
  13. When I say I don't think he is the pouting type, it's just my opinion. He seems like a happy-go-lucky type person. Sure, he is upset, and may show signs of that for a while, but how long that goes on will determine if he's "pouting" or not. Of course, none of us know how he will continue feeling, if we decide to move him, and that's why I made sure I worded my statement like an opinion and said the words "seems like." If this comes to the point where he is being very stubborn or even says he will want to be traded, if moved, then we move into a whole new realm on the decision, and my opinion on Devers will change 180.
  14. To fire back, "We have new leadership, now" is kinda in your face. They should have spoken to Raffy while in talks with Bregman, but I guess if the idea was they were going to move him, no matter what he wants, maybe it's not such a big deal. I don't see Devers pouting or demanding a trade over this, but stranger things have happened.
  15. How many "best employees" lead the industry in mistakes made on the job? Then, have that employee say "How dare you try to move me to a new position where mistakes are impossible to make?"
  16. I'm hopeful, Devers will hear all the banter and come around to seeing what is best for the team. Lost in all this is the fact that Bregman has been around as long as Devers and has pride, too. He earned the pride in his defense at 3B. If this wasn't about a near best defensive 3Bman vs a near worst defensive 3Bman, maybe the choice would be murkier, but Bregman at 3B clearly makes us better. If we have to start factoring in how much a pouting Devers might hurt the team, then we find something out about Devers. This should never be part of the equation, but Devers has made it one. I'm sure Cora (and maybe Brez) will have a sit-down to try and convince Devers what is best for the team, and maybe try to get him to try a 1Bman's mitt, if he really hates DH, so much. I'm hopeful, Raffy comes around. He does not seem like the pouting type or a super egomaniac. The part that got me is when he said he felt he was a good fielder, last year. "Good" vs what? High school or college? We should not have to force feed Campbell into the OF, either. There is more to this than just Raffy vs Bregman at 3B.
  17. We have a ton of arms coming into ST'ing. Some have low levels of promise, but others have moderate to higher levels. I like the idea of keeping the ones that look good in March. Let's not force ourselves into a Luis Garcia, Lucas Sims, Rich Hill and James Paxton situation in 2025. (not to mention Brad keller, Bailey Horn and others.)
  18. I'm assuming, after this trade, we'd trade 2 from our 12 SP'ers for something else. Devers and Yoshida for Gilbert or Kirby and Haniger. (Maybe we could throw in some cash.)
  19. If the medical staff knew about this, checked it out, and determined he did not need surgery, I have no issues. If not, there's sum 'splainin' to do.
  20. Maybe, after a few days, we'll hear a new position from Raffy.
  21. He was on his way to a career best OPS in '24, before the injury, and maybe they figure inflation.
  22. So, he's owed about $32M per year and worth about $34.5M/yr.
