  1. It's reasonable to think a .609 batter who has not other skills should be demoted. I try to be as optimistic as possible and have said Masa may still be able to hit near .800, but to me, he used up his chance. Was last night enough to loosen the leash? Maybe. Until Abreu returns, the urgency is not as dramatic. The extra roster player helps, too.
  2. Well, if SFG fans are anything like Sox fans, they are not happy. They are 29-38 since the trade, and it's all about wins, right? They were doing rather well before the trade: 41-31.
  3. Seems like a lot of line drive outs the past 2 weeks. I'm not worried.
  4. I guess the figured today Yoshida would erupt. These guys know everything!
  5. The young Dwight was thinner and stood tall for a year or two at bat.
  6. 18 hits and no BBs. Crochet might have lost the Cy Young Award, but who cares? 4 to 9 batters all had 2 or more hits. 8 Runs & 8 RBI!
  7. Campbell was a single short of the cycle. Early went 6 w 10 K and 0 BB but 1 ER. Rogers pitched well in an 8-1 POR win. Tygart pitched well in a 1-0 loss by GRE.
  8. Great game and show of offense, when you need it. I should keep ragging on Masa and talking about Rafaela's weak hits! LOL!
  9. He's 10 for his last 19. Play the guy. I'm fine with playing DHam vs RHPs and Romy vs LHPs at 2B, but Lowe is so awful v LHPs, maybe Romy is needed there, more. I'd DH Romy over Yoshida v R. I'd choose Campbell, first but he's at Woo hitting homers.
  10. The better question is how many? of Who is next? I've given up asking... When does ___ get back?
  11. I'm fine with DHam at 2B v R. Romy can DH over Masas vs R. Romy is killing it. L or R, of late, including tonight.
  12. OPS by batting slots 5 to 9: BOS: 740, 747, 609, 725, 812 (many will be better after tonight) NYY: 785, 730, 703, 682. 642 TOR: 780, 747, 704, 664, 701 DET: 707, 720, 704, 727, 613 HOU: 694, 714, 700, 630, 675 SEA: 688, 734, 675, 664, 636 The Sox place: 3rd, 1st, 6th, 2nd, 1st
  13. I didn't say .905 was not legit. I said we can't know that's what he'd hit after the date we traded him, anymore than we know Casas would stay a sub .600 batter. I would not DH Anthony over Duran, but I guess we could rotate them. I'd be fine with an OF'er at DH to end the season. We can't trade one, now. Anyone but Masa. (Hey, Campbell just homered tonight. He hit 50 points higher than Masa, this year.)
  14. Early has gone 5IP 2 hits 0 ER 0BB 8 Ks Campbell & Romero homered. I guess Masa deserves to DH more than Campbell, according to some.
  15. To me, Romy has earned a FT slot in the line-up. No more platoon, until he proves he should go back to it. It's better he plays 2B, so Rafaela stays in CF, but when Abreu returns, who knows what Cora will do. Romy can platoon at 1B v L and DH v R, if Rafaela plays 2B, or just keep Romy at 2B FT, despite Lowe being the worst batter vs LHPs in MLB.
  16. Gotta love all the rocket line drive hits Rafaela has been getting, recently!
  17. No, we don't know what Devers would be as a DH or 1Bman, just what he did for us over a couple months. I think we could safely assume Casas would hit .750 to .850 as a DH, if healthy. That's a big if, but we both are dealing big ifs, here. IMO, Devers would have been easier to talk into 1B than DH. He might not have gotten so upset, the first time, and there would never have been a 2nd time for him to pout. He might still be here and hitting .950 with no drama. Of, he could have pouted and cried all year and hit .790 after the trade date for us. I'm glad we traded him. I think we'll make out in the long run. I don't see why so many posters want to keep Masa playing with a pretty long .420 or longer .567 OPS going. This isn't Wong playing catcher well, while batting .450 to .550. This is a DH. Anyone can DH. Almost anyone can hit better than .420 and most can hit better than .567, even against their bad splits. I'm not sure Masas keeps hitting .420 or .567 or .609 or maybe even .800. I think he's had enough time. He's basically platooning as a DH now, which is a waste of a roster spot. I'd rather he get to bat FT with Woo to see if he snaps out of it. I don't want Abreu at DH. He's a great defensive RF'er. I guess Duran DH is an option, but we know what Cora will do. When Abreu returns, Rafaela will play 2B, and Masa will keep DH'ing vs RHPs, until the cows come home or Breslow demotes him.
  18. I'm not for DFA'ing him, now. I think they messed him up, all year and now he's rehabbing at the wrong level. He may very well hit near .800 again, and it could start tonight. Nobody seems to want to answer my question. How much longer do you stick with him? A couple weeks ago, someone said maybe 2 weeks. You ride him into October at .420? How about .567? How about his current .609? Hell, Campbell was over .660 when we demoted him.
  19. We all know the most famous foul pole homer ever... 1975...
  20. Indeed, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. The best OF DP of all time was Manny's catch, fan high-five, and then throwing out the runner.
  21. I hope he proves me wrong, but I see no signs of shaking off the rust. He's at .609 after a pretty long sample size, already. .567 in last 117 PAs .420 in his last 43 PAs. Here's what I don't get, Max. You continuously have assumed Casas, an .800 career batter, who hit .580 in 112 PAs, this spring, before going on the IL, was going to suck all year, but somehow have faith in Yoshida who hit worse and in a longer sample size than Casas. My question has been "HOw long of a leash does he get?" I'd say "Times up" and send him to Woo to play everyday v L and R and maybe earn his way back. Give a kid a try. So far, we are something like 7 for 9 on rookies doing well. this year. Can they do worse than .420? I guess so, but then call Masa back up.
  22. Is Casas that bad to you, based on one bad month? I think STL gets the better of the deal. Contreras turns 34, next may and 35 in his final year. He's in decline. If you think Masa is a .790 batter, then about the same can be expected of Contreras, except WC can play 1B and even catch in a pinch.
  23. The bar is set pretty low. Nobody knows how they'd have done, if called up a few weeks ago. We got a little taste of Jh Garcia, but not enough to know much. I also said I'd take a platoon of Romy and Garcia/Campbell. Hell, even Romy FT has better numbers.
