  1. I don't think "the time" has to be right now. If Devers is not ready, then keeping Pablo around has some merit, especially when you look at his contract.
  2. We took 2 out of 3 on the road vs the best record team. We were outscored in the series and still won: that doesn't happen often for us. Bogey finally showed some power. Price got hit hard but kept us in the game. Nice game. Nice win. Tied for first.
  3. HRam played tonight. I doubt we DFA Pablo anytime soon, but Rutledge sure is playing a lot Lately, so Pablo sure does seem like a wasted roster spot, if he only plays when we face a righty and we have a righty starter pitching.
  4. I still like our chances of winning it all, or at least winning the AL. The offense just isn't as good as I thought, and other teams' offenses are better than I thought.
  5. Just got back from a great time at the game. Went out for some seafood before the game for Father's Day. We hit the ball hard for a lot of outs early in the game, then went soft. I had a feeling we were going to lose. Big win. The Yanks lose. What's all the fuss been about?
  6. Our oldest player is only about 33 (Pedey and Young). I do see a lack of "fire", but I don't think it is related to any lack of youth..
  7. I burn 1500 calories on the treadmill over 62-68 minutes, according to the machine's readings. I do light lifting and crunches afterwards, followed by 2-4 leisurely laps in pool as "cool down". I had gotten up over 295. I'm at 251 now. I'm trying to get down to 210-220.
  8. It might not take a concerted effort to limit HRam's PAs. He gets hurt enough- all by himself.
  9. Before last year even started, I said I would trade HRam, even if he hit .330 with 30 HRs in 2016. He's just too inconsistent and injury prone to be able to count on him year-to-year. His trade value would have returned by having a great 2016, and we might have been able to get out from under at least one of the two big mistake contracts we gave out to Pablo and Hanley. Once Papi retired, it was hard for me to still hold that position of trading HRam last winter, but it looks like we should have done it.
  10. While Frazier's BA is low, he's walking more. His OBP has been between .303 and .309 for the last 3 years. .309 is nothing to be happy about, but it's considerably better than the .255 OBP we have had at 3B season. We've talked about Pablo's steady decline while at SF, well, Frazier's SLG has declined recently: .498 in 2015 at age 29 .464 in 2016 at age 30 .411 in 2017 at age 31 The other scary thing about Frazier is that he has been a first half hitter most of his career, and he's way behind his normal numbers at this point of the year. Career: 1st half .819 2nd half: .721 If we take the .721 number and add the regression factor, his 2nd half of 2017 offensive projection would not look too promising.
  11. He made a pretty good play last night, even with the throw being shaky. It was the most I've seen him move to get to a ball and get the out in over 2 years. I'm not saying I have any confidence in his fielding, but it was nice to see he is capable of taking 3 steps without tripping over himself.
  12. Right. My bad. Still, limiting his PAs this year might help us get out of that extra year of 2019.
  13. I doubt we'd have to add him, as players not on the 40 man roster are traded all the time. My question is about paying part of his contract. If the team we trade him to, adds him to their 40 man roster, and we are paying part of his salary, does that payment now go against our luxury tax cost, even if he wasn't on the 40 man when we traded him? It's hard to imagine any team wanting Castillo at his full cost, even if he is hitting well at AAA.
  14. I'm actually more worried about Porcello than ERod, Price or Velazquez. Maybe there's a hidden injury. Maybe there's something wrong with his mechanics- that can be fixed. Maybe last year was just a wild fluke. But, he sucks right now!
  15. On a personal note, I let myself get way out of shape over the years. I got a scare from the doctor in February and was told I was pre-diabetic. I started working out at the gym and got to the point where I was working out 13 out of 14 days (70-90 minutes a day- mostly on the treadmill or elliptical). I have lost close to 44 pounds in about 4 months. About a week ago, I was just sitting in my chair, and I twisted to grab my laptop off the table next to me. I felt a sharp spam in my mid back/side area. I was hurting bad for about 5 days. It still bother me a little now, but I have been back to the gym for 3 straight days. Just saying, no real excuse is needed. Injuries can happen almost anytime- anywhere-anyhow.
  16. I'm officially concerned about the hitting now. This 3 game stretch, which is a tiny sample size has tipped the scales for me. I still think we can win without great hitting, but I no longer see us as having a chance to finish in the top 5 in runs scored this year. We may be lucky to finish top 8. I had expected us to start "warming up", but the recent trend does not support that position anymore. I still think we have a good chance at winning it all, but it probably won't be on the backs of our hitters.
  17. I thought we would have DFA'd Brentz had it not been for such a striking lack of OF depth on our 40 man roster. Once Holt went on the DL, Young, Selsky and Brentz are it. I still doubt Brentz wins a slot on the 25 man roster next year. If Holt retires, he might have a better chance. My guess is we sign someone who can play corner IF and LF....nothing too expensive and rely on Devers and Travis to replace Young and Moreland.
  18. So, HRam needs 440 this year. Should the Sox actively try to keep him from reaching that mark?
  19. He hasn't played more than 3 weeks in a row for a long time, so it's hard to know for sure that he's totally toast. Until we make that trade you want or the big call-up others want, Pablo will be here.
  20. What a s***** game! My mojo turned to m-fo. Gotta get 'em tomorrow night.
  21. I've been one of Porcello's biggest supporters since day one. Something has gone terribly wrong. He's totally lost it. I'm not sure what we need to do to have any hope he turns it around.
  22. Yeah, but it kind of scary to have so few HRs in the new HR era.
  23. I'm on my way to the park. GO SOX!!!!
  24. Take Javier Guerra. His stock has fallen off a cliff since the trade, but my position was never about Kimbrel vs Guerra (and others), it was about what else we could have traded Guerra (and others) for instead of Kimbrel. Same goes with Espinoza, although I really wanted us to hold onto him.
