He's actually had several decent short years and minor league seasons. He's hardly ever been bad for a long time, if the sample size is over 25 inning: 2017: 8.25 in 24 IP 2016: 3.33 in 157 2015: 4.09 in 73 (3.81 in 52 IP at AAA) 2014: 2.57 in 21 (3.42 in 100 IP at AAA & AA) 2013: (3.46 in 135 IP at AAA) 2012: (2.54 in 143 IP at AAA & AA) That's 5 straight seasons of good pitching. Much better than Johnson's yo-yo career, IMO. His career MLB numbers are 21-14 3.97 in 288 innings.

True, they won't all come back at the same time, but eventually they may all be healthy at the same time. It's not a bad thing to have choices to make like these, but we may have to trade someone or create a phantom DL for someone. We also have Workman, Maddox and Scott who might deserve some time as well. We are not going to go all year with no pitching injuries. It's almost impossible, but there is a chance we have everyone or close to everyone for a stretch or two.

He's pretty young, so maybe they are just waiting for things to warm up for him to get his allotted time in.

Wright might go to the pen as well, but the pen will be overloaded, if everyone, including Thornburg are healthy. 5 man rotation: Sale, Price, Pom, ERod, Porcello 7 man pen: Kimbrel, Smith, Thornburg, Barnes, Kelly, 2 from: Hembree, Johnson and Wright (all out of options)

I loved the Uehara deal at the time, and although he was not really a closer with Texas and Baltimore too much, he had a longer stretch of success than Melancon and maybe the others as well (not Kimbrel). I think Beni will come around soon. Maybe that cheezy hit will be the start of something good. Do you think Johnson to the pen is a foregone conclusion once (and if) all our starters are healthy?

It's early, yet, and a small sample size for sure, but all the talk about DD neglecting starter depth now seems to be all for not. When Pom, ERod and Wright return, we're going to have to decide to move Johnson to the pen or trade him, as he is out of options. Velazquez will be sent to AAA.

Us, too. Losing 3 of our top 6 SP'ers is a heavy blow. So far, our 7th and 8th starters have gotten the job done.

Maybe bat 6th vs RHPs and 7th ve LHPs.
