  1. Love these kind of wins. Get back in the groove, boys!
  2. Joe Torre was not involved, maybe?
  3. Hate is a strong word.
  4. So, if Leon starts the season off 4 for 8 and Betts starts at 2 for 8, then BA and OPS are called into question?
  5. I am consistent. I still value defensive metrics, and did put in the caveat. I'm just pointing out that the numbers, so far, look baffling and nearly backwards.
  6. I know UZR/150 is only supposed to be used in large sample sizes, but I'm losing some respect for it this year. Here are the Sox top UZR/150 players: 40.0 JMart LF 13.6 Betts 10.4 Devers -0.1 Nunez -0.9 HRam The worst: -68.9 JMart RF -35.3 Holt 2B -28.8 JBJ -20.4 Lin SS -16.0 Moreland -11.7 Beni I don't know about you guys, but if these two lists were reversed (except for Betts) it would look more like what my eyes are seeing.
  7. Errors is a poor way to judge our defense. We are 1st in fewest errors (7). We are 23rd in UZR/150 (-3.7). We are 24th in DRS at -7. I knew we'd be worse than last year, since Devers was going to be FT, HRam more 1B, Nunez more 2B and JMart was expected to play some OF, but I did not expect it to be this bad.
  8. Was there enough time to ask Butterfield?
  9. JBJ ranks 30th in Sox everday player WAR since 1970- about the time I began being a Sox fan. He's right behind Marty Barrett, Tim Naehring, JD Drew and Jody Reed. He's just ahead of Bill Mueller, Rick Miller and Mike Lowell. Nobody has less PAs and a higher WAR than JBJ on this list....Naehring is close. (118 players with 650+ PAs)
  10. My all time faves: 1) Tommy Harper (His trade to the Sox was the reason I switched from being a Brewers fan to Sox fan at age 13.) 2) Luis Tiant (El Tiante was el fuego!) 3T) Rick Burleson (The original dirt dog.) 3T) Fred Lynn (Pure grace and skill) 3T) Pedro Martinez (The best pitcher ever- in a 4-5 year span) 6) Bill Lee (Told it like it was.) 7) Papi (I can't believe I have him down this low!) 8) Manny (Enjoyed watching this guy hitting more than anyone else- best approach evah!) 9) Ellis Burks (Maybe the most under appreciated Sox player in my time as a fan-- Reggie Smith?) 10T) Jason Varitek (Master of all things not quantifiable- dare I say, "the human side".) 10T) Luis Aparicio (Maybe the best full time defensive SS the Sox have ever had.)
  11. ...and Devers to DH & JMart to OF?
  12. I'm not trying to toot my own horn. I've been wrong too many times to do that. I've always felt Devers should play 1B/DH, and we could have signed Moustakas to play 3B for the same money Moreland is making. While Moose is no longer a clear plus defender, he's much better than RD. We better hope Devers' learning curve is short.
  13. http://news.soxprospects.com/2018/04/the-write-up-roniel-raudes-and.html
  14. Bring back Eddie Popowski! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Popowski
  15. Moncada with his 5th dinger of the season, today. He's up over .850 in OPS.
  16. Trade 'em all! We suck!
  17. It seemed like more of last year's mistakes were players being boneheads. This year, it seems like more have to do with the 3rd base coach than last year. Still, too many running into outs. I get that being aggressive will lead to some outs, and I'm not upset about the out at the plate yesterday, but cutting down on boneheadedness is never a bad thing.
  18. That's what the older generation said about us.
  19. You need to re-evaluate your priorities.
  20. Good point. So, was the chances Nunez would be thown out higher or lower than about 35%? When seen in this light, the choice to send Nunez was not horrible or clearly wrong. It was a bang-bang choice. The throw was nice, so it looked like a horrible choice.
  21. Maybe Betts had a 30% chance of getting a hit. What was the chance Nunez was going to be safe at home? 31%? 29%
