  1. How is trading Kimbrel going to help us this year? I'm not against the idea or re-tooling for the future, but this debate was about trading to win this year.
  2. It would be the definition of insanity.
  3. We can't trade JBJ anymore, since moving JD to the OF creates a hole at DH that would likely be filled by Nunez. This would also force Holt to FT 2B duty. We can't trade Pom, because he's hurt. We can't trade any of our other starters without creating a gaping hole. Trading Devers (and others) for Machado creates a giant hole at 3B for 4+ years going forward. With maybe just enough money to keep Kimbrel and Kelly, there'd be nothing to fill our 3B hole. Maybe some here would be okay with Nunez at 3B and Holt at 2B FT next year, then Holt at 3B and Hernandez at 2B after 2019. Best case scenario: Pom returns and looks sharp. We trade him to a desperate contender for a decent prospect. Pedey comes back and can play nearly everyday by the playoffs, or Nunez gets his s*** together, or Holt bucks the fizzle out trend, so we don't need to spend all our remaining assets at 2B. We trade the prospect we get for Pom and add Swihart or Hembree or someone like Beeks in hopes of prying someone useful from a non contending team.
  4. I didn't do anything. DD traded the whole farm away. The only 2 worth anything are out on PED Suspension and TJ surgery. The guys we can do without are not valuable enough to get a big name. We will make a trade, but not for a big name. We have made some mega deals in the past 2-3 years. That is our box. Trading ERod or Devers, which is maybe just the starting point to get the names you mention is a horrific idea. 1) It doesn't come close to making us unbeatable. (BTW, the Yanks and Astros have more tools than us to make trades that negate us getting machado.) 2) We have a shot at winning next year. I'm not for slightly improving our odds this year at the expense of blowing next year's chance. 3) We are 12-1 in ERod starts. Devers may out hit Machado the rest of this season. One never knows. 4) Blowing past the $40M penalty line will further hurt our chances after 2020. I could go on and on.
  5. Stop trying to pick a name out of a hat. I would not trade ERod or Devers for any 2 month rentals.
  6. Yes. I'd trade anyone one for a 100% guarantee WS win this year. Machado does not come close to that.
  7. Too bad he was traded by Natick the GM 74 times already.
  8. Of course, he can, if he makes a super dumb trade.
  9. Trading ERod or Devers is not trading the bench. Our bench is fine when compared to other benches, but they aren't valuable enough to get Machado. Mostof our players are too highly paid for the O's to want, and the young guys they'd want, Beni, Devers & ERod are not only part of our essential core for 2018 and 2019, they are some of the few that are essential to our future beyond 2019 or 2020. DD is not trading any of our best young core for 2 month rental. This isn't fantasy baseball, where you can reboot your team next season.
  10. Danny Ainge has so many pieces to consider. he built a team for now and the future. Don't compare the two.
  11. Best case scenario: Pom comes back and looks sharp. Hembree and Swihart up their stock over the next 6 weeks, We trade Pom, Hembree and Swihart for some prospects. We flip those prospects and maybe add one or two of our own and get someone who does not put us over the max penalty cost line. Even then, it won't be enough for Machado.
  12. We are not trading Devers or ERod. We might trade Pom to a contender for a prospect, assuming he comes back from an injury. We have no great prospects to bring us anything very special. It's just not in the cards this year. We shot our wad with multiple mega signings and trades over the last couple years. We might make a tweak move here or there, but nothing like Machado. It's time you know it.
  13. The O's don't want Pom. We're 12-1 in ERod starts. How about trading HRam's contract, Hembree, Johnson, Swihart and Beeks? It's about equally absurd- just in reverse.
  14. Weird time for a trade like this. The early word is the Royals didn't get any of the Nats top prospects... even weirder. If the Sox had made this trade, we'd have gone over the max limit, assuming we dumped no salary of our own. The Nats will take over the $7,937,500 salary that Herrera is earning in his final season of arbitration eligibility. With 82 of the 186 service-eligible days of the MLB calendar already in the books, the Washington organization will be on the hook for something like $4.44M.
  15. It's not about having balls. It's a dumb trade idea that would cripple us starting next year. Plus, getting Machado doesn't improve our odds all that much for 2018.
  16. I've always like to use this analogy: if a fastball pitcher threw the ball so hard a catcher could not catch it, or a curveball pitcher threw such a wicked curve that catchers missed it, we'd have no problem with the pitcher, yet when a knuckleballer throws a pitch that is hard to catch, we tend to blame the pitcher. If a pitch is so hard to catch, imagine trying to hit it. Vaz is doing a great job catching Wright, so what's not to love about his success?
  17. I wouldn't trade Devers for machado, Britton and enough cash to keep us under the $40M line this year. 2 month rental trades suck!
  18. There's also a chance Nunez's knee improves and/or Holt has built the stamina to last the season. I'm still not sure that even if Pedey never plays again this year, 2B will be our biggest need at the deadline.
  19. There are countless plays that are not called errors that make a difference in runs scored or not scored. Our defense has not been all that bad, despite 2B and 3B. I'm liking what I see from Devers at 3B. He's progressed much farther than I expected, but he started out pretty damn low. Holt has looked batter at 2B, but he can't play everyday and remain productive. Pedey's return could be a huge boost to our defense and our offense vs lefties. I'm still hopeful, but we'll know more at the deadline.
  20. I've been one of Devers defense harshest critics. I'm happy with his growth on D. He still has a way to go, but he's done better than I expected.
  21. I think you question pinpoints his value
  22. Of course, it's just my opinion, but it looked clear to me.
  23. We're paying HRam anyways for 2018. I'd have been fine with keeping HRam for 2018, as long as he never reached the vest. I thought that was why we got Moreland, so we could platoon HRam and prevent the vest. They started HRam FT, and lo and behold, he started hot. That must have scared the bejezus out of DD. HRam's slump gave DD the chance to pounce, and pounce he did. I loved the move, yes for 2019, but I knew it would hurt us vs lefties. I had hoped Pedey would take up that slack, but...
  24. I'm not arguing for keeping HRam. I loved the move. The fact remains, the move hurt us vs lefties. Plus, if we took him back now (not saying I want to), he wouldn't get enough PAs to vest. BTW, it's 675 vs LHPs at .672 and 2151 PAs at .813 so far this year. Last year we had 1400+ vs LHPs. Someone batting 4th vs LH'd starters, might get 150 PAs vs lefties over a full season. HRam had 123 last year vs lefties, so your 20 PAs is not accurate.
