  1. There's no glaring weakness. We have areas that are way stronger than others, and upgrading a less strong area makes sense, but I think waiting until the deadline will help us identify which area is best suited for an upgrade- if any.
  2. If JBJ keeps struggling, we may see more of JD in the OF, so maybe Chavis could muscle his way into some DH time.
  3. I can see the point in starting Holt, but to say "zero sense" when Nunez has been way better than Holt offensively vs RHPs is hyperbole.
  4. Again, Holt is no wonder glove.
  5. No Afican American suffered? 1) That's not true. More worthy players would have made the bugs. 2) That's a poor gauge to judge with.
  6. I'm big on defense, but never is a strong word. It's not like holt is all that much better on D, and our offense has needed all the help it can get.
  7. Leon is not "garbage". He's one of the best back-up catchers this team could have and needs. Nunez is off to a poor start, but he's better than most teams' utility players. Holt should be consider "bench", because Pedey is the starting 2Bman. Just because we are using Holt and Nunez at the moment, does not mean they are not considered depth. I stand by my position that we have better depth than most teams. (I see you left our pitcher depth.)
  8. Nunez is better vs RHPs than LHPs- this year and career. Holt is better vs LHPs- this year by a ton & career. They both have significant reverse splits. That is probably why Cora played Nunez vs the RH'd starter, and he's the manager- not one of us..
  9. It seems that way, but I think he can play better than he has, so far.
  10. The weird thing is, his defense has not improved at all. I'm not sure we can suddenly expect growth in that area. I do think he can and will become a better hitter- assuming he stays healthy.
  11. Looks like Carson Smith is toast. MLB reports... Red Sox reliever Carson Smith is set to undergo shoulder surgery tomorrow, the team announced to reporters (Twitter link via Rob Bradford of WEEI.com). The operation will likely put an end to the 28-year-old’s season. It’s the latest setback in what is becoming an increasingly injury-plagued career for CarsonSmith, who missed the majority of the 2016 and 2017 seasons while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Tomorrow’s surgery will repair a subluxation in his throwing shoulder, which the right-hander reportedly incurred after angrily tossing his glove out of frustration following a poor outing last month. However, there’s additional damage in his shoulder, it seems, as head athletic trainer Brad Pearson tells reporters that Smith also has some tearing in the labrum (Twitter link via the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier).
  12. The Yankees will promote right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga from Double-A to make a spot start later this week, manager Aaron Boone announced Tuesday (link via ESPN’s Coley Harvey). He’ll get the ball Friday in place of the injured Masahiro Tanaka. Domingo German will start Thursday for the Yankees, with Luis Severino going Saturday, per the report. MLBTR
  13. Vaz the only Sox player with 2 hits. Vaz is 7 for his last 18. JBJ the only one with no hits.
  14. Lind hit his 4th HR. Lin 2 for 4 with a DBL Brett Nezter 4 singles (up to .311).
  15. A win is a win. Keep 'em coming!
  16. 12-1 in ERod starts. WOW!
  17. 181 pitches and counting....
  18. Even 80-90% will be an improvement over Nunez so far this year.
  19. It's a very difficult injury to return from. That's one reason. I'm optimistic, but I realize, there's a significant chance he never returns close to form.
  20. Nobody is arguing about our lack of farm depth. In terms of ML depth, how many teams have a better bench than this: Moreland (He's now a FT'er, but he started as "depth") Nunez (Playing FT due to Pedey's injury) Holt (OPS over .800) Leon (one of our hottest hitters over the last month) Swihart (Okay, other teams are better here) Pitching: Our 6+ starters have been great (except for 1 start by Beeks) Our pen has done great, despite all kinds of relievers going on the DL at some point this year.
  21. Not really. He "wasn't hitting" in 2016 or 2017 either, and then.... His hot streaks are usually Herculean. Just last year, he was at .637 on May 23rd and got to .800 by June 11th and .850 on June 25th. Yes, he's got more PAs now than last May, but respectabilty is maybe .750 not .850.
  22. I view depth as the bench, but yes, our 6-9 hitters have done much worse than last year. 2018 slot 6 .718 7 .612 8 .571 9 .639 2017 slot 6 .750 (mostly Bogey, JBJ, Moreland, Devers, Young, HRam) 7 .693 (JBJ, Devers, Moreland, Vaz, Young, Rutledge, Pablo, leon) 8 .741 (Leon, Vaz, JBJ, Pablo, Young) 9 .640 (JBJ, Marrero, Vaz, Leon, Marco, Holt, Lin) Wouldn't you think adding JD over Young (and HRam) would lengthen the line-up and improve the 6-9 slots? Well, Bogey and Betts losing time didn't help, but this is the bigger culprit: JBJ .726> .584 Vaz .735> .528 Leon .644> .639 Devers .819> .686 Nunez> .892> .632
  23. trading Elias was the priceless part!
  24. I disagree. We have slumping players and players on the DL or being brought back slowly. We have a nice bench. We've been winning when Betts is out. Bogey was our hottest hitter, when he went on the DL. We kept winning. Have patience: Devers will adjust. JBJ will have a hot streak. Leon and Vaz have already been returning to .650-.750 hitting. Nunez can do better, but I'm not sure if he's been affected by his injury too much. Holt has done well off the bench, so far. Our starting pitcher and pen depth has been fantastic.
  25. I've been teaching ESL for 11 years, so I know all about homework and the effects of not doing it.
