  1. Maybe, unlike what many have been saying, it's a buyer's market.
  2. Just offering some data on Price's velocity. It shows your point is valid. He was around 94-97 in 2011 and 2012 but has been around 91-94 since joining the Sox. I wasn't trying to disagree with you.
  3. Back to baseball, please. Gotta like Price stepping it up as we try to get by without ERod, Pom and Wright.
  4. The subsequent trading of Melancon was bad, but getting a guy like Melancon in the first place was a good trade, IMO. It's like saying getting Porcello and extending him was a bad move, because Porcello sucked the one year Ben was his GM. You can't count his next years. (Now, one could argue Lowrie's subsequent years made it a bad trade, because he had some much better years after the trade.)
  5. Not as mysterious as the undying hatred directed towards a GM who brought us a ring and set DD up to build the team we have now. Most of us who defend Ben realize he was far from perfect and made some major blunders.
  6. Melancon was a good pitcher who happened to do poorly that year with the Sox. (We ended up getting Holt for him in a later trade that involved hanrahan.) I think it was a good trade. I can see how the Lowrie lovers view it differently. (BTW, the oft-injured Lowrie only played 97 games with HOU that following season.)

  8. As long as you do the same for all SP'ers the numbers would be fairly comparable. It wouldn't seem fair to minus a 9 IP 0 ER from one guy and a 7 IP 0 ER from another., when the point of the argument is how well someone does in all but 2 of a pitcher's starts.
  9. One would think not starting your best starter in game one vs the best starter on the other team, you'd improve your odds of winning the next 2 games.
  10. I'm sure every pitcher's numbers look much better when you take away their worst 2-4 games, but here are Price's numbers: Team record: 14-6 Games with 5 IP & 0-2 ER/ 6 IP 0-3 ER and 7.2 IP 0-4 ER: 15 out of 20 Minus 2 worst games: 3.01 ERA (37 ER/107.1 IP) Minus 4 worst games: 2.50 ERA (28 ER/ 100.2 IP)
  11. Certainly some of our OOBs are due to being more aggressive, but we still seem to have more than our fair share of bonehead plays like being picked off. I don't see as many plays where runners are forgetting how many outs there are, not watching the runner ahead of them stopping and 1st or 3rd outs at 3B. I'm not sure, if anyone tracks those totals separately.
  12. Some decent moves on the list, right. Some seem to forget all the good ones.
  13. I guess that could be part of the narrative, and I was one to lay some of the blame on the manager, but we also have to face the fact that we have some runners who just plain have no instincts or lack focus while on the base paths.
  14. Who was the poster who claimed Ben was a bum based on the fact that nobody wanted him as their next GM?
  15. Yes, he should at least be on the honorable mention list.
  16. Pom has proved he can be very effective as a two pitch SP'er. He's hit a rough stretch that may be affected by an injury. Sure, it would help if he had a 3rd effective pitch, but he may not need one, if he can just regain what he had the first half of 2016 and all of 2017.
  17. Maybe, but there seems to be less this year... still too many, though.
  18. To me, these were Ben's best moves: 1. The Dodger dump (perhaps a top 5 Sox trade of all time) 2. Signing Koji 3. Trading 2 months of Miller for 7 MLB seasons of ERod 4. Signing Napoli (the first time) 5. Trading Jed Lowrie & Kyle Weiland for Mark Melancon 6. Trading Matt Albers & Podsednik for Craig Breslow 6. Signed Cody Ross to a 1 year deal 7. Trading Peavy for Hembree and E Escobar 8. Trading Cespedes for Porcello & extending him 9. Luis Ortega for Burke Badenhop 10. Signed Rich Hill to a minor league deal 11. Cash for Mike Carp 12. Trading Mike Aviles for John Farrell 13. Signing Scott Atchison to a mnor league deal Honorable/semi honorable mention: Signings: Victorino, S Drew (the first time), J Gomes, M Scutaro, Dempster, David Ross, Trades: Cash for Scott Podsednik, Bowden for Marlon Byrd, Iggy & Montas for Peavy, Mortenson for Q Berry How about draftings and international signings? Draft Benintendi Kopech & Dubon (helped get Sale) B Johnson Poyner C Asuaje (helped get Kimbrel) T Buttrey P Light (got us Abad) Beeks J Haley Ockimey Chavis S Travis K Martin Stankiewicz J Cozart IFA R Devers M Margot (helped get Kimbrel) Moncada & Basabe (helped us get Sale) Espinoza (Got us Pom) Basabe (helped us get Thornburg) Bautista (helped us get A Reed) Lin D Hernandez Let me know, if I missed anybody?
  19. Who has done so poorly in our pen that necessitates Buttrey replacing them? As of right now, these guys are not on the 25 man roster: DL ERod Wright Walden AAA Pom Scott Beeks Haaley Cuevas Jerez Buttrey Shepherd Martin
  20. We still have our share of bonehead plays, but it seems better than last year.
  21. If so, it's because of Texas being part of the country.
  22. We should see some promotions very soon.
  23. Guardians get Hand. Cubs get Jesse Chavez.
