  1. We just signed Vaz. Leon is our best catcher right now. My guess is we have all 3 on the opening day roster next year.
  2. Yes, I remember now. I went back to look: ERA/OPS against/IP (Time frame) 2015 9.00/.956/10IP (4/18-5/25) 2016 6.43/.784/ 7 IP (4/11- 4/24) 8.31/.854/ 8.2 IP (6/20-8/9) 2018 5.56/.836/ 11.1 IP (7/23-8/28) Each of these rough patches were followed by great stretches.
  3. Yes, all with no no movement whatsoever.
  4. They are #2 in WAR since the start of 2017. Maybe people think other pens are much better than ours, because they don't watch them implode. (Although, we watched several implode in our late inning crooked number innings.
  5. ..and maybe having 17 RP'ers on the 40 man roster played into the choice made.
  6. We currently have 39 players on the 40 man roster plus 3 players on the 60 day DL (Pedey, M Hernandez & Maddox). That makes 42 on the roster. 6 Free Agents to be: Kimbrel Kelly Pomeranz Pearce Eovaldi Kinsler We may only replace 2-3 of these guys from outside the system. 42-6=36 and add 2-3 free agents means we'd be at 38-39 before rule 5. Bubble roster players (might be DFA'd, non-tendered or traded for a prospect not needing to be on the 40 mman roster next season): Tony Renda Justin Haley C. Shepherd C Smith (arb) W Cuevas Travis Poyner Walden M Hernandez R Scott A Maddox Rule 5 this December Victor Acosta Christopher Acosta Yoan Aybar Roldani Baldwin Trey Ball Juan Barriento Edilson Batista Eduard Bazardo Danny Bethea Jordan Betts Marino Campana Rusney Castillo Michael Chavis Luis Colmenares Eduard Conde Harrison Cooney Jake Cosart Ricardo Cubillan Enmanuel De Jesus Chad De La Guerra Jhonathan Diaz Jerry Downs Nick Duron Junior Espinoza Willis Figueroa Devon Fisher Austin Glorius Daniel Gonzalez Juan Hernandez Darwinzon Hernandez Oscar Hernandez Tyler Hill Dedgar Jimenez Trevor Kelley Trenton Kemp Matt Kent Travis Lakins Marcos Lantigua Adam Lau Deiner Lopez Isaias Lucena Chris Madera Danny Mars Algenis Martinez Tate Matheny Kevin McAvoy Daniel McGrath Samuel Miranda Joseph Monge Mark Montgomery Jhon Nunez Josh Ockimey Angel Padron Yorvin Pantoja Yankory Pimentel Roniel Raudes Austin Rei Hildemaro Requena Denyi Reyes Eddy Reynoso Jeremy Rivera Jake Romanski Teddy Stankiewicz Kevin Steen Cole Sturgeon Josh Taylor Luke Tendler Josh Tobias Carlos Tovar Kyri Washington Jantzen Witte We may want to add Feltman, if he's ML ready.
  7. Yes, but there is no sign it is injury related. Has he ever had this type of stretch in his career before now?
  8. Agreed. I don't think it's an injury. His velocity is still there. I hope it's not his contract year getting inside his head.
  9. I noticed we have neither.
  10. We have 17 RP'ers who all equal or better bonafides than Buttrey or Lakins. Our problem isn't RP'er depth or quantity: it's RP'er quality. I can't see how adding Lakins will help. I guess I can't see why giving him a try hurts, but I'd rather have us go out an acquire a RP'er who is actually better than some on this list- not the same or unknown. Assuming SP'er health returns, here are the current RP'ers already on the Sox 40 man roster: Kimbrel Barnes Kelly Hembree Brasier Thornburg Workman Wright Velazquez Johnson Pomeranz Scott Poyner Walden Cuevas Haley Shepherd
  11. Johnson has one of the worst records when seeing hitters for the 3rd time: .712 first PA (99 PAs) .732 second PA (97 PAs) .831 third PA (44 PAs) 2.500 forth PA (2 PAs)
  12. Actually, this might be the best time to go through a rough stretch, as long as he is over it by October.
  13. .282/.763 is not all that alarming, especially for a player pretty new to MLB. The one HR is concerning, but I'm confident he will adjust.
  14. If we are talking about adding someone just to help in September, I'd add Shawaryn. If it is someone who might be on the playoff roster, I don't see anyone in the system now. I'd acquire a RP'er and add him to the 40 man in time to be eligible.
  15. If we add Lakins, we'd drop someone else. With so many days off in the playoffs, and several pitchers coming off rehab soon, I doubt we'll need another pitcher for the playoffs.
  16. No, but we did have 3 catchers on the roster until Vaz got hurt.
  17. I'm confident he will do very well.
  18. With so many impending free agents, some of which can be replaced from within the system (like Pom and circumstance), I don't see a rule 5 crunch this winter. I only see about 5-6 names that might be worth keeping. Victor Acosta Christopher Acosta Yoan Aybar Roldani Baldwin Trey Ball Juan Barriento Edilson Batista Eduard Bazardo Danny Bethea Jordan Betts Marino Campana Rusney Castillo Michael Chavis Luis Colmenares Eduard Conde Harrison Cooney Jake Cosart Ricardo Cubillan Enmanuel De Jesus Chad De La Guerra Jhonathan Diaz Jerry Downs Nick Duron Junior Espinoza Willis Figueroa Devon Fisher Austin Glorius Daniel Gonzalez Juan Hernandez Darwinzon Hernandez Oscar Hernandez Tyler Hill Dedgar Jimenez Trevor Kelley Trenton Kemp Matt Kent Travis Lakins Marcos Lantigua Adam Lau Deiner Lopez Isaias Lucena Chris Madera Danny Mars Algenis Martinez Tate Matheny Kevin McAvoy Daniel McGrath Samuel Miranda Joseph Monge Mark Montgomery Jhon Nunez Josh Ockimey Angel Padron Yorvin Pantoja Yankory Pimentel Roniel Raudes Austin Rei Hildemaro Requena Denyi Reyes Eddy Reynoso Jeremy Rivera Jake Romanski Teddy Stankiewicz Kevin Steen Cole Sturgeon Josh Taylor Luke Tendler Josh Tobias Carlos Tovar Kyri Washington Jantzen Witte
  19. Well, more likely when you have the confidence being on a roll can create or strengthen.
  20. I don't disagree, but sometimes being "on a roll" helps you still find a way to push a run across, even against the best of the best at his best.
  21. I'm shrinking in embarrassment.
  22. Think of that run the Rockies made in '07 to make the playoffs and cruise to the WS, where they met the Sox and were stopped hard. Nobody is claiming momentum lasts forever just as slumping teams rarely stay slumping for super long times. If they suck, sure, but then it's not really a slump, is it? The Sox have gone on a couple incredible stretches this year. You could feel they knew they were going to find a way to win. They've also had some lulls where they look like they are grasping at straws. As a player, I have felt both feelings, and I truly believe that which mindset you have is a big part of the game. Of course, there are 25 players on a baseball team, and not everyone is in the same mindset at the same time, but winning 7 out of 8 most likely puts most in the positive mindset.
  23. With Devers down, we may see why having Kinsler ends up being more valuable. I doubt they'd pitch Buttrey in the bigs this year anyways.
