  1. While true, HRam was pretty much FT at 1B/DH until May 24rd.he played in 44 of those 50 games (195 PAs)- 25 starts at 1B and 19 starts at DH. We were 29-15 in his games. Moreland played in 34 of our first 50 games, but 8 of those games saw him get 0-1 PAs. We were 22-12 in his games. He started just 26 of our first 50 games.
  2. I doubt he can ever play 2B well enough for the bigs. 3B is blocked, unless he can out field Devers and force him to 1B (doubtful). That pretty much leaves 1B, DH and OF, of which only 1B has room for playing time over the next 2 years. 2019 needs a 1Bman vs LHPs, and 2020 needs a FT 1Bman. There's nothing weird about his splits. The 2018 AAA sample size is puny. vs RHPs: .917 (24 ABs) vs LHPs: .644 (9 ABs) Look at AA in 2018 (small too) vs R .880 (97) vs L .964 (25) 2017 A+ vs R: 1.009 (152) vs L: 1.073 (71) AA vs R: .846 (203) vs L: .602 (45) 2016 vs R: .674 (223) vs L: .858 (56) It looks like he's never balanced, but overall, he's pretty close to even vs lefties and righties.
  3. Agreed. Once they bungled the Lester negotiations, I liked the idea of the fire sale. I was puzzled by the Cespedes return, but when we got Porcello and extended him, I was fully on board. I loved the Miller for ERod deal, but I had hoped we could re-sign Miller. I loved the 1 year of Lackey for 5 years of Kelly, and I also thought maybe Craig could be our solution to the 1B issue. I liked the Peavy for Hembree & Escobar trade and Doubront for Marco Hernandez. I called the Dodger dump one of the greatest Red Sox trades in history. I even liked the Miley trade. It's Ben's signings that sucked. Even the ones that worked, like Vic and Dempster were at least a year too long.
  4. Pass. This one is easy.
  5. I'd love to see the Yankees sign this cancerous, cantankerous, crusty clown. Plus, we can see a few brawls along the way.
  6. 1B is primarily a big offensive position. I'm already hearing a poster say we should get a FT 1Bman this winter. Moreland fell off a cliff two years in a row. Last year, we blamed the foot injury. This year, hardly anybody wanted him playing in the playoffs, even against a RHP. It was a good deal, then a bad deal, then good again. 2017: .689 in his last 77 games (283 PAs) 2018: .578 in his last 61 games (227 PAs)
  7. Well, there has to be a better choice to be a bad call. Maybe there was a pitcher who dominated more than JBJ's 9 RBIs, almost all of which put us a head near the end of 3 games. 9 RBIs was a third of all the runs we scored. Price pitched 2 games in the ALCS not 3 and had a decent, but not great 3.38 ERA-- 32 outs out of 44 batters faced. E-O pitched in 2 games (7.1 IP) with a 2.45 ERA-- 22 outs out of 31 batters faced. Again, I don't see a pitcher as deserving as Price was in the WS. Recap: JBJ clears the bases loaded with a dbl to put us up 5-4 in game 2. (We were down 1 game to none.) Down 5-4 in game 4, JBJ hit a 2 run job to put us up 1 Game 5, tie game, he hits a 3 run job to clinch the win. I never said it was all about PAs vs batters faced. I said that was the deciding factor (assuming everything else was kind of even).
  8. Yes, the 1 year of a possibly disgruntled Lackey for 5 years of Kelly looks better now than a year ago. The 2 months of Miller for many years of ERod deal looks great now. Peavy for Hembree, well, maybe a little better. A probable lost Lester for Porcello via Cespedes looks better than after his first year here. Melancon for Holt...
  9. ..and Pom was a good deal... ...and Kimbrel was a great deal... ...and Moreland was a good deal, then a bad deal, then a good deal again...
  10. I'm thinking OF is easier to grow old in. Maybe he moves to LF in Fenway at age 39.
  11. How about trading Chavis, Johnson and Swihart for a pre-arb better 5th starter or pen arm? You know a lot of players from other teams. Who can we get for that trio?
  12. I'd see that as a nightmare. JD would get hurt tripping over himself. Betts would get spiked by Machado the Yankee, and Beltre would need micro surgery on his knee.
  13. Trading Chavis would unblock him.
  14. I believe it's $15M: $13.5M plus $1.5m for finishing in the top 3 of Cy Young recently. That adds some to the budget, but I counted him at $15M on my chart.
  15. Yes, he was paid $18.5M a year plus the $1M a year for the buyout spread over the 5 year deal (minus the $500K SF pays him). You are right. We were charged $19M a year x 5 for tax purposes, and the $5M in 2020 does not count against the tax. My bad.
  16. Cots has the $5M buyout listed but not on the tax page. #
  17. Was I adamant? Was there a dominating pitcher that did more than JBJ? If so, I'll listen. Maybe I missed something and was blinded by my JBJ man crush.
  18. Good point, you commie bastahd!
  19. Hid biggest deals all look good, now: Price, Sale & JD. They certainly blow HRam & Pablito away, but it's the in-season under the radar deals that I'd like to see DD do more of. Beeks for Eovaldi Espinal for Pearce The Brasier signing in March. The Nunez, Fister, Abad and Reed deals last year.
  20. I have always felt his bat will be 5 star. I'm thrilled to see the improved defense.
  21. Agreed, all the more reason for Nunez to fix the knee, so he can play 2B more often.
  22. We just have to have JD change his name to "Bartinez", Devers to "Bevers" and maybe Chris Sale to Chris "Bale."
  23. Again, I'm not trying to slight what Pearce did. It's not his fault he was able to do what he did in just 16 PAs, but to me, the 41 outs Price got holds more value than the 4 hits and 4 walks Pearce got. It's a close call, and co-winners made the most sense, bit if it was up to me, and I had to pick just one, my vote goes... 1) Price 2) Pearce 3) Eovaldi (without Kinsler's error, he might be higher) 4) Kelly
  24. Yes, and that goes down to $5M in 2020, but to reset the tax in 2020 or 2021 would mean drastic changes to our roster.
  25. I wouldn't trade Porcello, so we can keep Kimbrel, and if we weren't looking at an open window for 1-2 more years, I'd like the trade idea more.
