  1. 2-3 years from now... 1. Betts RF 2. Beni LF 3. Devers 3B 4. JD DH 5. JBJ CF 6. Chavis/Ockimey/Dalbec 1B 7. Hernandez/Quiroz 2B 8. Lin/Chatham SS 9. Vaz C (Of course, we'll add somebody, but this is the base we'd have to work with.) SP: Sale, Price, ERod, Wright, Johnson, Velazquez/Shawaryn/Groome RP: Feltman, Kelly, Barnes, Brasier, Hembree, Workman/Scott/Poyner/Walden/Lakins
  2. I agree with pretty much everything here. The decision on Sale may be very hard, too (not mentioned here). To me, if we keep Betts & JD, and we have to choose between these two choices, I go with... Sale > Porcello (assuming Sale passes the physical) JBJ > Bogey Kelly > Kimbrel (money differential) Without any major additions, what are this team's chances without Bogey, Porcello and Kimbrel- assuming everything else stays and remains pretty consistent in performance output?
  3. Damon also did well in the playoffs in that playoff year.
  4. I'm willing to wait, but as of now, he's the best. He's had no meltdown.
  5. Don't even count Ellsbury, and one can DH. You are probably right; they didn't sign Gardner to essentially $9.5M to be a 4th OF'er.
  6. Okay, I see now how you did it. 1B 2013 Napoli> 2007 Youk 2004 Millar> 2007 Youk Jacoby's 2013 OPS of .781 was 7th best on the team- just ahead of Stephen Drew and Gomes. Damon had an .857 OPS in 2004 and was much more influential in the playoffs.
  7. Depending on when (notice I didn't say if) Henry decides to reset, I've been guessing all along it will be after 2020 for the major decision point of our GM and owner.
  8. The Rays ranked 9th. Otherwise, "meh."
  9. Fake news! There were millions waiting outside the gaits to get into MLB games all year long! Damn media! They are the enemy of the fans.
  10. I know this thread is about 2019, but here's a look at the team control years of our top players. These numbers might play into who we sign and for how long we sign them for. After... 2018: Eovaldi Kimbrel Pearce Kelly Kinsler Phillips 2019: Sale Porcello Bogaerts Moreland Nunez Holt Thornburg JD (opt out option) 2020: Betts JBJ Wright Leon Workman Smith JD (opt out option) 2021: ERod Pedroia Barnes Hembree Option: Vaz 2022: JD (if no opt outs) Beni Swihart
  11. No, because Maris had a larger body of work that proved he was not. If and until Cora loses control of his team, 2, 3 or 7 years from now, IMO, he's the best.
  12. It's not just about winning a ring: I called him the greatest before the ring. The players are focused. They believe in him and themselves. The players radically changed the amount of blunders and mental mistakes from last year to this. We broke the team wins record and then went 11-3 in the playoffs, which included an 18 inning loss. Tito was great for a long time, but he lost control. I know Cora's sample size small, and I'm sounding hypocritical with this proclamation, but I really think Cora is the best. Could that change? Yes. Do I think it will? Most likely not. I'm not going to criticize anyone who still thinks Tito is, but my opinion differs.
  13. He's a rule 5, so he should be on our 40 man roster (or elsewhere). To me, the chances for any meaningful input from anyone on the farm, pitchers or otherwise, for 2019 is very minimal. Chavis or Ockimey (slight chance for Dalbec) Quiroz Shawaryn or Shepherd (Haley/Cuevas) Lakins of Feltman
  14. Cora is the greatest Sox manager of all time. Am I still alone on this?
  15. You have VTek & Pedey twice and no Lester or Kimbrel. Damon & JBJ >>> Ellsbury
  16. I believe Yelich's deal was signed during his arb years. It was not an open market deal. One major reason free agent salaries seemed lower last year was that a few teams were busy re-setting their luxury tax, My guess is salaries will look high again this winter. While baseball viewership may be dropping, owners are still making a killing, and some teams need to win to make more money.
  17. Keeping Leon, only if just to be Sale's personal caddy, is worth it. Vaz has already shown he can hit pretty well (for a catcher). Swihart will be traded, IMO.
  18. I'm not saying it can't happen, but signing those 4 would blow us by the max tax line. I'd want to know more on Miller's health before going large and long there.
  19. I know! It's like I'm floating through my days with a bounce in my step.
  20. The thing is, we already have Nunez, Holt and a dream of Pedey for 2019. I think his only hope is at 1B, assuming we don't add anyone. I think we trade either Chavis or Ockimey this winter and hold onto Dalbec.
  21. I never called him a top MLB prospect or said we'd get something great for Chavis, Johnson and Swihart. I'm just hoping for a better 5/6 starter than Johnson.
  22. I can't agree with a single point made here. Eovaldi has more health issues than Sale. Betts is a GG RF;er and JD was made for the DH role. Bogey is not a great defender, so dreams of a Bogey-Betts keystone combo are ill-founded. 2Bmen are easier to find than good all around OF'ers, and we already have Holt/Nunez under contract..
  23. I don't disagree, but we need a closer, a set up man, and a 5/6 starter. What will we have left over to get a solid 1Bman? My guess is we punt for another year and try to keep Pearce to platoon with Moreland or give Chavis/Ockimey a chance and go looking mid season, if they fail.
  24. I could see the Phillies going nutty on Machado or Harper. I think we may see this: Phillies: Harper & Kimbrel Yanks: Machado, Corbin & Morton Cubs: Kershaw LAD: Keuchel & A Miller HOU: Eovaldi & Y Grandal BOS: Ottavino & Pearce STL: Donaldson SEA: Cruz MIL: Brantley & Britton WSH: Ramos COL: M Gonzalez, Happ
  25. I vowed not to watch the NBA anymore after the league fixed the Warriors into the finals, but my Bucks are the last undefeated team in the league. I'm torn!
