  1. It sounds like he's deciding on it. It's not decided, yet, right?
  2. Yes, plus you and I. I just thought it took a long time for someone to respond.
  3. Certainly both were very impactful, and it always seems like RBIs matter more than runs scored or defense, but Betts did erything. He was 30-30, gold glove and even had a higher slugging percentage than JD. Betts is THE MAN!
  4. I like Workman, and I hope people don't give up on him based on one playoff game. He is out of options, and many teams are struggling with fitting out-of-options players into next year's plans, but I have to think we could at least trade him for something useful or a prospect, Here are our bubble players who are out of options: DL/Phantom DL/Trade? Wright Johnson Workman Hembree Swihart Leon Trade/DL/DFA Cuevas
  5. Good synopsis, but I doubt we go 4th OF'er. Besides the 3 we have that play FT, we have JD, who apparently enjoys playing OF more than DH'ing, we have these guys who can also play OF: Holt, Nunez, Moreland, Swihart and maybe Pearce, if we re-sign him.
  6. I'm pretty sure Henry thinks way ahead, but of course adjustments can be made depending on the situations. I do think he will want to reset the tax within the next 2-3 years, and if that happens, it will be very hard to win the following year.
  7. Hasn't it always been increasing this slowly? (Granted, it hasn't been around for too long.) The only blip on the near meteoric rise of player's salaries over the years, is when the owners got caught colluding and last winter, wen several of the highest spending teams chose to reset the tax during the same winter. This winter will be a good gauge on the trend. All the big players will be in spend mode. Even the Sox may spend $25-30M or more (per year).
  8. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see us sign Eovaldi, Kelly and Pearce. I'm not aware of Henry's spending plans going forward. If he's fine paying mega taxes for 2-3 more years, then great, but if he's looking to re-set after 2020 (or even the more unlikely 2019) season, then I think we need to worry about the length of the deals we sign now. I suppose we could trade the guys we sign, if it helps us keep Betts and others, but it may not be that easy, if these guys do not do all that well. All this speculation would be much easier, if we knew Henry's budget plans going forward into 2021 and beyond.
  9. I was wondering how long it would take for a Yankee fan to respond.
  10. Most prepared. Most focused. Most determined. Most balanced (pitching, hitting, defense, running). Best team in MLB. Best Sox team I have seen.
  11. I know it's not much, but if baseball was losing money, shouldn't it be going down?
  12. Good point. Or, if Eovaldi gets the $60M/4 that MLBTR projects, we could maybe offer... $20M $20M $10M $10M Wecould probably trade him after year 2, unless like you said, thins go badly. Maybe some of the projected 3 year players might take 2 with an option: 3 year projected $48M Happ $36M W Ramos $33M Familia $33M Britton $33M Robertson $33M Ryu $30M Ottavino $30M Lowrie $27M A Miller
  13. After 2020, we will be facing serious decisions. Not only may we be facing our 4th straight season over the luxury tax and maybe 2 or 3 years over the max line. That's 2 years, not 3. One could argue we may look to reset the tax after 2019, but I doubt we will. As for "mortgaging the farm in 2004," are you claiming the Schilling trade (De la Rosa, Fossum and Lyons) compares to DD's multiple trades? de la Rosa was 3rd ranked on soxprospects.com. Theo later traded HRam and A Sanchez for the 2007 ring (Beckett & Lowell), but that was after 2005. The farm in 2004 had Lester & Youkilisto start the season, and also had HRam, Pedroia, Papelbon, A Sanchez, Shoppach, Brandon Moss, David Murphy & Manny Delcarmen. We were also able to add Ellsbury, Buchholz & Lowrie that summer, thanks to the generous comp pick rules that are no longer in place. It's wishful thinking to expect anything like that anymore. It's very hard to build a farm when you keep winning and the rules have changed to make it very hard for winners and big spenders to acquire prospects through the draft or international signing systems.
  14. I'm mildly surprised Pedey didn't win it.
  15. Yes. How many "mistakes" did Calvin make? Certainly many more than Buckner.
  16. Possible FAs to sign, if we are looking to reset in 2 years (2020): $16M x 2 Charlie Morton $12M x 2 Gio Gonzalez $11M x 2 Matt Harvey $11M x 2 Trevor Cahill $11M x 2 Anibal Sanchez (Nope) $10M x 2 Daniel Murphy $10M x 1 Brian Dozier $9M x 2 DJ LeMahieu $9M x 2 Joakim Soria $8M x 2 Mike Moustakas $8M x 2 Lance Lynn $8M x 2 Cody Allen $8M x 1 Kelvin Herrera $6M x 2 Bud Norris $6M x 2 Brad Brach $6M x 1 Ervin Santana $5M x 2 Garrett Richards $5M x 2 Jesse Chavez $4M x 2 Martin Maldanado or Kurt Suzuki ??? Steve Pearce
  17. I'd love to see them both back, but there are other players on the market and cost & years might be an issue.
  18. Maybe, if we are looking to reset after 2 years, we load up on 1-2 year deals: M Harvey Allen Herrera Pearce
  19. My thought is we may be looking to reset the luxury tax after 2020, and DD might avoid 3+ year contracts. If not, then Eovaldi and Kelly would be more than fine to me.
  20. Can't argue with anything here, but the farm is still desolate as we near a time when we may need it to do what we did to get the roster we have now.
  21. $15M Eovaldi 4 $8M Allen 2 $8M Herrera 1 Might keep us under the max tax line for 2019.
  22. Cody Allen and Herrera costs less than Kelly alone, and one drops off the budget after 1 year and the other after 2 years- no 3 year risk.
  23. Kelly's FB seems to be mostly straight and at times hittable. He has issues with control and consistency- like many pitchers. $9M x 3 might be too much for such a risk, but looking at those around his projection, I'm not sure we can do much better.
  24. I could see that, but the estimate is $15M x 4.
  25. MLBTR projects $9M x 3 for Kelly. Would you offer that? Others around that projection: $11M x 3: Z Britton & D Robertson $10M x 3: A Ottavino $9M x 3: A Miller & J Kelly $9M x 2 J Soria $8M x 2 C Allen $8M x 1 Herrera $6M x 2 B Brach
