  1. He's not as fat as Pablo, and Pablo was pretty nimble until 26-27 years old.
  2. Yanks to sign Lavarnway.
  3. Are the Sox going to be in on Kikuchi? https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/11/red-sox-rumors-jdm-bogaerts-kikuchi-payroll-farm.html He would have a much lower AVV than others,
  4. I definitely have Lin above Hernandez and Quiroz on the 2B depth chart. He may even beat out Nunez as the starter, assuming Pedey is done. I'm not sure what you mean by "two-way," but I don't see Lin ever becoming more than just a decent utility player with a plus glove.
  5. Sorry, I forgot every Sox player ages as well as Papi.
  6. Swihart's bat is not proven to be good or better than Vaz, but he certainly has not proven a good enough bat (or glove) to play in OF, 1B or 3B.
  7. $5M????? Here's cots... J.D. Martinez rf-dh 5 years/$110M (2018-22) 5 years/$110M (2018-22) signed by Boston as a free agent 2/26/18 18:$23.75M, 19:$23.75M, 20:$23.75M, 21:$19.375M, 22:$19.375M may opt out of contract after both 2019 ($2.5M buyout) and 2020 seasons (no buyout) 2021 and 2022 seasons become mutual options if Martinez has a Lisfranc injury or complication to his right foot causing him to be: 1) on the disabled list for 60 days or more in previous season, or 2) on the disabled list for 10 days or more in the previous season and 120 days or more in the two previous seasons combined, or 3) on the disabled list at the end of the previous season and found not able to play at the start of the next season limited no-trade protection (may block deals to 3 clubs annually)
  8. So, he'll get the same, as I said, but just more years.
  9. LLosing JD, Pablo and Porcello's contracts lets us pay for Sale.
  10. Agreed. Saying they represent our best hope for (near) immediate in-house solutions, is not implying they are locks as significant contributors.
  11. I get that, but he will be 2 years older, thought of as a DH first not an OF'er, and $25M is a lot for anyone to pay a DH. Yes, he will go to the highest bidder, but it may not go beyond $25M. He may get $25M x 4 or 5 years.
  12. I think Chavis might be dealt. I see Ockimey as our best 1B hope, unless Dalbec overtakes him.
  13. Losing Porcello's $20.5M may not be a big loss. Losing JD or Sale will be, but we can sign a lesser player to still keep us a contender. We also lose Moreland and Nunez. Let's assume we sign Eovaldi, Pearc and Kelly to 2+ years, and let Porcello and JD walk. You don't think this is a contender? 1. Betts RF 2. Beni LF 3. Bogey SS 4. Pearce 1B 5. Devers 3B 7. JBJ CF 8. Pedey/Hernqandez/Quirox/Lin 2B 9. Vaz/Leon SP: Sale, Price, Eovaldi, ERod, Wright/Johnson/Velazquez/Shawaryn/Groome RP: Kelly, Barnes, Brasier, Hembree, Workman, Poyner/Maddox/Scott/Walden/Feltman Plus, some money left over to sign a 2Bman or pitcher, especially if Henry allows DD to go near $40M over.
  14. We are going to haave to scrimp somewhere and 1B is the one area we have possible in-system help. (BTW, Chavis has shown flashes of reverse splits.)
  15. Could we sign Pearce, trade Moreland (lose the $5.5M) and hope Chavis or Ockimey can contribute in 2019?
  16. If the spending window will be tightened after 2019, then we may not want to give him 2 years. Maybe he'll take a 1 year deal with an option 2nd year and hefty buyout. To me, going beyond 2-3 years for Eovaldi is the harder and more significant call.
  17. It certainly could start after 2019, and I have said that on other posts. It all comes down to Henry's willingness to keep spending and paying high taxes. I do think, even if Henry okays spending a lot in 2020, we may still lose one high profile player. To me, we'd still be highly competitive without JD, Sale or Bogey... maybe not the faves, but certainly still a formidable team.
  18. Papi hit over .300 seven times and had over 40 HRs five times. He did both in his final year. He also hit over.... .282 ten times 30 HRs ten times
  19. The surgery will be for the Umbilical hernia not the diverticulitis.
  20. Just talked to the surgeon. I will need surgery once the acute diverticulitis is gone. It's probably for the best to have the surgery this year, as this hospital stay made me reach my deductible. My $6K max out of pocket is going to be met, for sure. Thanks again to everyone for all the kind thoughts.
  21. I'm not so sure he makes more money after having a big 2019 season. Look what Papi made, and he was one of the top 2 DHs of alltime. (Papi could play 1B as well as JD plays the OF, and he did play 1B in NL parks.)
  22. If 1B is going to be tried, you don't wait until spring training. You talk to him and see if he's okay with the idea and ask him to start working out taking grounders with a FBman mitt and scooping low throws before ST'ing begins.
  23. It's not so much about JD's abilities (or lack of them) in the OF, it's more about benching JBJ (or Beni) instead of Moreland.
  24. I think we stay highly competitive until after 2020, but if we are struggling in 2020, we may have a fire sale in July. My hope is we can regain competitiveness after just 1-2 years of being not so great.
