  1. Cots has us estimated at $18.5M over the luxury tax after arb signings. If we sign Eovaldi to $15M per year, we'll be just $6.5M under the $40M line. We still need pen help and may want some money for summer pick-ups. It only gets scarier in 2020 and 2021, despite losing Pablo's contract.
  2. Projected arb costs for 2019: >(Projections for 2020) $19.5M Betts (2nd or 3 arbs)> $26M (3 of 3) $11.25M Bogey (3 of 3) Free Agent $8.75M JBJ (3 of 4)> $11M (4 of 4) $4.25M ERod (2 of 4)> $8M (3 of 4) $3.5M Holt (3 of 3) Free Agent $3.25M Barnes (1 of 3)> $5.5M (2 of 3) $3M Leon (3 of 4)> $3.5M (4 of 4) $3M Wright (2 of 3)> $5M (3 of 3) $2.75M Thornburg (3 of 3)> Free Agent $1.25M Hembree (1 of 3)> $3M (2 of 3) $975K Workman (2 of 3)> $1.5M (3 of 3) $950K Swihart (1 of 4)> $1.25M (2 of 4) First arb in 2020: Beni >$4M (1 of 3) Marco Hernandez> $900K (1 of 3)
  3. Projected arb costs for 2019: $19.5M Betts (2nd or 3 arbs) $11.25M Bogey (3 of 3) $8.75M JBJ (3 of 4) $4.25M ERod (2 of 4) $3.5M Holt (3 of 3) $3.25M Barnes (1 of 3) $3M Leon (3 of 4) $3M Wright (2 of 3) $2.75M Thornburg (3 of 3) $1.25M Hembree (1 of 3) $975K Workman (2 of 3) $950K Swihart (1 of 4) First arb in 2020: Beni & marco Hernandez First arb in 2021: Devers, Brasier, R Scott
  4. Here are some names... https://www.minorleagueball.com/2018/11/24/18109863/here-are-9-intriguing-milb-prospects-left-unprotected-heading-into-the-mlb-rule-5-draft
  5. Coaches almost always get full shares. The Yankees gave way less shares than the Sox this year. They released who got theirs (and who did not).
  6. Yes, and Velazquez still has 2 options remaining. If everyone is healthy, and we pick up a couple pitchers this winter, Velazquez might start in AAA, no matter how well he does in ST'ing.
  7. You'd think you should be able to be at least a decent contender spending one dollar below the luxury tax limit, no matter what, right? However, if you have 5 guys making $110M and you add $15M for the players' benefits, there's not a whole lot left to fill the other 20 slots on the roster, assuming the team goes under the luxury line for one season.
  8. I hate Oklahoma & Ohio St. Who makes it, if Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio St all lose? I can't see UCF, Michigan or Texas making it.
  9. True. Probably, we'd offer either one and let them pick.
  10. If we reset the year before, then he'll already have experienced a downturn during his last season.
  11. I like Dalbec more than Chavis (GMs may feel the same) and think he may move to 1B at some point. If Devers ends up moving to 1B eventually, then I certainly prefer Dalbec to Chavis.
  12. Hembree does have 3 years of control, and maybe they could flip him for a prospect, but yes, they would want more... Maybe Johnson, Swihart & Chavis.
  13. This is an underpay by any view. Travis and Swihart are close to worthless. The idea of trading Johnson to fill the closer role is not appealing to you? Plus, we'd have money to spend on a starter that is better than Johnson (maybe Eovaldi).
  14. Losing Mookie would be like losing our heart and soul plus all the numbers. I know, we just proved we could win without Big Papi, our former heart & soul guy, but losing Mookie would be a cliff by itself.
  15. I know hamony will cut me a new one, but I'd love to see this... Johnson (1 pre-arb + 3 arbs) Hembree (3 arbs) Swihart (4 arbs) Travis (pre-arb) for Alex Colome (2 arbs left)
  16. I assumed "hitting like he used to" meant like his last full season not like his MVP year. 2018 OBP with Pedey's 2017 season mixed in: .438 Betts .402 JD .394 Pearce (w/BOS only) .369 Pedey (2017) .366 Beni .362 Holt .360 Bogey .325 Moreland As you can see, many players are close to Pedey's .369, except for Moreland, so maybe Pedey 3rd vs RHPs might do better than Moreland in that slot, but I still like Bogey up 3rd. The 5 slot gets more RBO opportunities than the 3, so keeping Bogey 5th is okay, but I like Devers up 5th going forward. It's no biggie. Having Pedey back close to form is a great problem to have. The hard part may be getting Holt & Nunez enough PAs, not who bats where.
  17. The team also stuck to the fundamentals and reduced bonehead plays and lack-of-focus mistakes. Cora is the best!
  18. ..and the pen, too.
  19. Erod coming back helped, too. Picking up Eovaldi, too.
  20. I'd keep Betts, Sale, Devers and Beni over Bogey. (Not just about the money on the latter two)
  21. I was impressed by Bogey's gains on offense. He seems to have found the groove, so to speak. I had hoped for growth on defense over the years, but his great offense overshadows any limitations he has on defense, and then some. He did get plus on UZR/150 for only the second time in his career, so maybe there's hop he can keep that up, too. (His DRS numbers have been horrible- like worst in MLB bad.) I'm glad we have him for another year, and it will be hard to keep him at the price tag he will want and get. Cracking the 100 RBI mark was very nice. The 71 XBHs shows he's tapping into the power expected of him, after hitting just 48 last year.
  22. These numbers don't count how well pitchers do with certain catchers. I'm not sure our pitchers would ever reach the comfort level they need with YG. Besides, spending $13M at the catcher position would adversely affect what we can spend in higher need areas.
  23. The jury is still out to some extent, but there has to be some major steps made by some of DD's picks in 2019 to show all is not lost. We've had some key injuries and unwanted suspensions, but there still is a little hope on a few guys. The problem is, the best hopes are at least 2-3 years away.
  24. No doubt. No stats show what Sale or any pitcher can do going forward, but he really has not had a significant injury history. His endurance issues have been a concern to me all along. I was for resting him more in 2017 and was fine with how we rested him this year, too, although it didn't seem to help, this time. I am certainly concerned about signing Sale to a long term deal next winter. I am also concerned about signing Eovaldi to 4 years.
  25. We don't have the prospects needed to get him. We'd have to trade Beni or Devers just to get them listening.
