Who is the greatest under-the-radar player in Sox history?

I loved VTek and was always a big fan (and defender at times). I'm not sure we win in 2004 or 2007 without him. -
I have a David Ortiz jersey, a bunch of T-shirts (only one with a name on the back- "Beckett") I have a Wally plush toy and a Sox beer mug. I have a WS baseball from SI. I have lots of Sox books. I have a tin pennant thingy but it doesn't have the 2018 update. I have a couple caps. I have a nice collar shirt just like the one Papi wore after winning the 2013 ring. It's getting worn out.

The M's do hold the record for most wins in a season (216 in 2001), but no ring- no glory.

How much money will they end up saving? This looks like another example of the one of the biggest contracts in history being a flop.

Colome is off the market. The Mariners announced Friday that they’ve traded reliever Alex Colome to the White Sox in exchange for catcher Omar Narvaez. I guess they liked him more than Swihart (assuming we offered him). I wonder if they'd have taken Swihart plus Johnson or Hembree (or maybe Chavis).

We didn't count on Brasier at the start of the year, but he did well. It's hard to plan on "getting lucky" again, but you are right- sign more guys like Brasier and you have a better chance one turns into Brasier. As for the 125 IP'd (less than 1/5th of our total RP IP, but most were very important ones) needing to be replaced, we could possibly, barring injuries to any pen arm, get more from these guys. Relief IP in 2018 62 Barnes same 60 Hembree same 55 Velazquez same, maybe more if no starts 41 Workman maybe +10-20 39 Johnson same, maybe more if no starts 34 Brasier should be +25-30 30 Wright who knows? 24 Thornburg maybe +25-30 22 Poyner maybe +25-40 15 Walden who knows? 7 Scott who knows? He may never get near to what he was that year with Milwaukee. It is a difficult injury to fully recover from, but if he does, we have a closer or a great set-up guy. I think we should plan on getting nothing from him, and anything he gives us will be a bonus.

Well, the injury hurt his cause, but he was a much prospect. (of course, Pom > Reed, too.)

Good points, but I'd expect some disgruntled player might speak out- not the agent admitting he failed to discuss higher taxes on one contract option vs another, just so he could make higher commissions. I think, in general, players are very happy with the services Boras offers them, and that's one reason so many go to him for representation. They want the most money they can get, and he's one of the best at getting that.

It certainly would have been harder. I think the Reed trade was a good one. I doubt Bautista amounts to anything.

I really want Eovaldi the most but not for more than 2 years, so it's a tough call for me. I'm just not sure I want Eovaldi over Porcello and Sale, and if we sign him to 4 years, we'll probably have to say good bye to Rick or Chris (or Bogey or Betts). Maybe a hefty buy out option on a 3rd and 4th season might get Eovaldi to agree to a 2 year deal with the Sox. Trading for a more cost controlled closer makes a lot of sense, and I'm fine with trading Chavis and Johnson (and Swihart) to get a good one.
