  1. No, but what is the history of SS's recovering from TJS?
  2. Shortstops need a strong arm.
  3. They could DL him and give him a shot to build it up in AAA, but that contract might make it easier to just DFA him.
  4. I don't disagree, but I think he gets one more year at 3B to show continued improvement. BTW, I know you have been critical of Andujar's defense, too, buts you seem to focus on Devers more, although I don't see what you post on Yankee sites.
  5. We could probably use a cheap DH, if JD bolts, so keeping all 3 has some merit.
  6. First, he has to prove he's overcome the injury.
  7. Yes, I'm not sure Holt & Lin are enough IF depth. Remember, trading Leon does not really "save" $2.45M, since even if we add a min wage guy, we save only about $1.8M.
  8. I'm not sure what the Sox feel about Groome right now, but if they have high hopes, I'd think no, but yes, $7M could go a long way, if we are looking to stay under the max line.
  9. It's hard to say what value Chavis has right now, and if it will increase with a big season or half season in AAA. We could really use a cheap 1Bman next year, which will help us keep a stud, but we can also use a solid RP'er now.
  10. Makes sense, but I really know very little about Izturis. I'm not sure, if he's better than Groome, but I guess the salary dump might still make it a good deal for both sides. I'm thinking we may want to make a trade to boost our pen not our farm, but our farm does need a boost.
  11. Vaz makes more than both. Leon is older than both. Who are the "other two?"
  12. Why would Seattle want Nunez? (Just to get Groome?)
  13. What about Price's "binky?" We're talking about our best two pitchers. ERA Career/2018 Price 2.83 Leon (769 PAs)/ 2.37 (306) 4.32 Vaz (1113 PAs)/ 4.68 (351) 5.73 Swihart (48 PAs)/ n/a Sale 2.42 Leon (1250)/ 2.04 (426) 3.40 Vaz (218)/ 2.27 (191) (Swihart has never caught Sale for even 1 batter. To me, that speaks volumes.) 2/5ths of our rotation and perhaps 1/2 of our playoff rotation may very well be compromised by going with Swihart over Leon.
  14. Maldonado signs with Royals, so there's one team not in on a Swihart or Leon trade.
  15. Yes.
  16. It won't matter. We'll be scoring 12 runs a game.
  17. The conclusion... I certainly would not begrudge the Red Sox for keeping Swihart over León, and the argument to do so that is perfectly sound. That being said, it may be best for the team to stick with the defense and the more known commodity. On top of that, it would almost certainly be best for Swihart to get a fresh start in another organization and make the Red Sox regret the decision once he gets that consistent playing time.
  18. The only spots left to "earn" are... Back up catcher- Leon or Swihart Last pen slot- likely goes to out-of-options pitchers like Workman, Johnson, Hembree & Thornburg. If Brasier begins on the DL, then there's a fight for another pen slot (Thornburg/Poyner/Velazquez/Walden/ ???).
  19. Right now, Devers being forced into the 3b slot is clearly a stall tactic due to personnel. That kid is so thick in the legs and slow on the first step that he will never be defensively average at 3b. Devers has been improving his defense, so nothing is being "forced." IMO, his biggest strength is his first step and quick reflexes. I totally disagree with you on that area. To me, his weakness is in his range, which for 3B is not much of an issue, except when running down pop-ups and foul balls. Fenway's small foul territory, especially down the 3B line in short RF may help hide that drawback. Note: I've been a big worrier about his defense and have suggested a move to 1B might be best (like when I advocated us signing Moose), but I saw some major improvement on defense, particularly down the stretch. His UZR/150 went from -11.5 to -5.2. If he can get near zero, he will likely stay at 3B, and Chavis may play 1B next year.
  20. I have serious doubts about Pedey, especially on defense. The way he plays all out, I'm not sure he can dial it back. He will likely try to dive for a ball and tweak his knee again. 90 games would be great, assuming he can hit near .790.
  21. You won't be using them the way you hope to use them.
  22. Aren't those the two times?
  23. I'm not so sure Chavis is a better defender at 3B than Devers, but we should know by the end of 2019.
  24. I never fret over ST'ing, except the injuries. (Knock on wood.)
  25. I think waiting, despite all the risks, is the best way to go. I like our roster now, and it already seems like we'll have to trade, cut or demote someone I like.
