  1. Don't get me wrong, I was a huge fan of Theo, but there a very striking difference in major deals made before the great Nomar trade and after. Up to and including Nomar: Todd Walker for Thigpen & Blanco David Ortiz, Ramiro Mendoza, Mike Timlin, Bill Mueller& Bill Haselman Bronson Arroyo & Bruce Chen claimed off waivers B-H Kim for Hillenbrand Papelbon and David Murphy drafted Kevin Millar & Gabe Kapler for cash Mike Gonzalez & S Sauerbeck for Brandon Lyons & Anasracio Martinez Scott Williamson for Phil Dumatrait Jeff Supan, Lyons, A Martinez for Freddy Sanchez & M Gonzalez Lou Merloni for Miniel Keith Foulke, Jeff Bailey, Bobby Jones, Mike Timlin, Pokey Reese, Frank Castillo signed Curt Schilling for Jorge de la Rosa, Cassey Fossum & B Lyon Lenny DiNardo rule 5 Mark Bellhorn from Colorado Pedey, C Meredith & Steve Pearce drafted Orlando Cabrera & D Mientkiewicz for Nomar Garciaparra & Matt Murton Mike Myers off waivers Dabid Wells, E Renteria (we ended up paying $32M for 1 year), Matt Clement, Wade Miller, John Olerud, F Dubront signed Ellsbury, Hansen, Buchholz, Lowrie drafted Alex Cora for Ramon Vazquez David Paoley & Jay Payton for Dave Roberts Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell & G Mota for HRam, Anibal Sanchez & others Mike Loretta for Mirabelli Andy Marte for Renteria & cash JT Snot, J Tavarez, T Graffanino, C Breslow, Alex Gonzalez signed Coco Crisp & David Riske for A Marte, K Shoppach & G Mota Willy Mo Pena for B Arroyo Mirabelli for Josh Bard & Cla Meredith Daniel Bard, J Masterson, R Kalish, B Belt, Lars Anderson drafted Javy Lopez for Adam Stern Carlos Pena signed Eric Hinske for cash George Kottaras for David Wells JD Drew, Dice-K, Julio Lugo, Okajima, A Castillo, J Piniero signed Middlebrooks drafted Eric Gagne for Gabbard and David Murphy Sean Danielson for J Piniero Curt Schilling, M Timlin & Mike Lowell re-signed Daniel Nava & Bartolo Colon signed I'm guessing those deals after 2007 are still in people's memories.
  2. I'm thinking trade.
  3. And AGon.
  4. Nats sign Anibal Sanchez to $19M/2 with a $12M option third year and a possible $33M/3 with incentives.
  5. Fess up! It's made of cardboard with glossy paint!
  6. I thought it was the computer used in the movie War Games and notin modified it.
  7. The Angels have signed Trevor Cahill. It’s said to be a one-year, $9MM deal. Cahill will be able to tack on another $1.5MM via incentives.
  8. Talenti (Brand) Sicilian Pistachio- Try it!
  9. Plus, they usually get more endorsement money, but taxes may be higher than other choices.
  10. I feel the same, and the Yanks are too deep to try a plan B of signing 2-4 mid range free agents, instead. Is signing Kikuchi, Britton and Moose really an option?
  11. I agree, but I also think he made some marginal plays look harder than they were by doing his jumping, twisting twirl throw, when others would have simply planted their foot and throw the guy out easily. For that, I feel, some thought he was a better defend er than he actually was. Man, they guy could hit! Except for his 2001 injury season, he hit over .867 for all 7 years, including being over .946 for 3 straight seasons.
  12. Okay, he hit well for another couple years or so, but was never a FT'er and ended up below .793 with the CWS and LADs. Not bad, but not the Nomar we knew.
  13. I thought we had sufficient pitching depth last year, although we ended up needing to trade Beeks for Eovaldi. Sale Price Porcello ERod Pomeranz Wright Johnson Velazquez Beeks Cuevas Haley We basically got nothing from Wright & Pom, Sale and ERod missed significant time and we still won by a pretty comfortable margin, in hindsight. Our pen consisted of... Kimbrel Kelly C Smith Thornburg Barnes Hembree Workman Smith and Thornburg gave us just about zilch, but we had this depth: Brasier Wright, Johnson & Velazquez Poyner Walden Scott Brasier turned into a gem. Beeks got us Eovaldi. Despite all the missed time by so many key pitchers, we only needed to add one pitcher (Eovaldi). We have the same starters returning, except for Pom. Beeks & Pom are replaced by Eovalid. Our pen looks short, but I don't think DD is done.
  14. Yes. It's not like we have oodles of ML ready prospects needing innings at AA and AAA. We still have room for a couple more guys like Putnam and Ramirez.
  15. Kinsler signs for $8M/2 with the Padres.
  16. There's still a lot here to dig up, if one is so inclined.
  17. They actually get paid less than other entertainers like Rock stars and Oprah.
  18. Was Theo the GM, when they offered that contract to Nomar?
  19. I'm certain we acquire a solid RP'er somehow.
  20. You want to keep some room at AAA and AA for rising young prospects, so we shouldn't sign 20 guys like this. (Not that this is what you were saying.)
  21. He got injured, apparently in a non-baseball way, and the Sox did not pursue getting out of paying him, or something like that. I know we offered him a big deal, and he turned it down. Some thought he was pouting and feigning injury. I never liked his defense and thought he was all flash and not a plus defender, but man he could hit up until we traded him. Again, fantastic timing on the trade.
  22. How many for Barnes and Thornburg? I guess they made their choice on who they think our closer will be.
  23. Brantley to Astros for $32M/2.
  24. Man, we are bored, aren't we?
