  1. I'm thinking Hernandez might be our best prospect. I don't want to trade him, but to get something, you have to give something.
  2. I doubt he gets 6. Without the Yanks or Dodgers in need of a closer, it's hard to think of anyone giving 5 x $17 to $19M per.
  3. The Marlins might be the only team taking a longer view to a large extent. I'm not saying you are wrong, but one never knows what a certain GM covets. We could also offer closer prospects like Groome or D Hernandez.
  4. Hard to think Sandy hit over .800 in over 250 PAs not too long ago!' I can't see Swihart's ceiling being that high.
  5. Any talk of contract costs leveling out has to be discarded at this point in the winter.
  6. DD or an opposing GM might value Dalbec more than Chavis. We also have Casas way down the line. I could see us trading one with other pieces for a useful and inexpensive pen arm.
  7. Yes, I know you didn't say it was forever. 2019 is Sale's big contract year. He may try to hide any pain. I'm confident he'll be okay, but I understand homerism might be at play with my opinion.
  8. Familia gets $30M/3 with the Mets. I thought he might be an option, but these contracts are too much, so far this winter.
  9. Last trades were what? Buttry & Jerez for Kinsler Beeks for Eovaldi Espinal for Pearce I'm not sure trading Swihart & Chavis for a RP'er is going to be a huge conversation piece, but what else is there to talk about?
  10. I think we make a couple minor to mediocre deals for 2 RP'ers- most likely with options remaining and several years of team control. We might trade players/prospects from this list: Swihart Chavis Shawaryn Ockimey and maybe Johnson or Hembree to an upgrade
  11. Yes! We did not have these guys all year this year, so just having them from the start should be a big plus. Maybe add Pedey, Thornburg and Wright, and we might absorb the loss of Kimbrel and Kelly without any more big splash deals.
  12. Their "bullpen games" often were games where a RP'er started, and then a starter type pitcher came in for 4-5 innings.
  13. Yes, and we have Johnson and Velazquez in our pen, who can both start or spot start. We have Wright and Shawaryn, so that makes 9. If we need more, DD can try to work his magic again next summer and find us the next Eovaldi for Beeks type of deal.
  14. I just don't see Swihart passing Leon. He couldn't even pass him during a .511 season, including Sandy having a .208 OPS over his last 23 games (64 PAs). Yes, a .208 OPS! Not BA, not OBP, not SLG% BUT OPS! Swihart's record with almost all our starters is way worse than Vaz and Leon. I think Sox management obviously values that highly, or else Swihart would have been give a longer look at catcher last year. He basically only catches when Vaz or Leon are hurt.
  15. LOL. For them, maybe.
  16. ...or Nunez.
  17. It is a concern, but he had been out a long time, and sometimes it takes a few starts to regain velocity and control. Certainly, there is concern, but 2 games should not be used to claim he has forever lost his velocity- not that you are saying that.
  18. Good to see you back, Max.
  19. So, Chavis (or Dalbec, if they prefer), Houck and Swihart might work?
  20. I really think, if JD opts out, he won't get much more of an AAV in his next deal... maybe $1-3M more per year.
  21. True. Teams often need 8, 9 or 10 different starters. This year, we used 11, but only 9 had 4 or more starts. In 2017, we used 10 starters, 8 with 4 or more. In 2016, 10 and 9. 2015, 12 and 9. Seems like 8 or 9 is the true number for starters you might need to give you 4 or more starts.
  22. Too many Yankee & Red Sox transplants in the area to ever build a very strong following.
  23. Would you give Casas, Swihart and Houck for him?
  24. Probably not, but it is possible. I'll settle for more of the same.
  25. Could be. I'd like to try and get Drew Steckennder from the Marlins, but he's pre-arb and pretty good. They'd probably want Casas, Mata or Flores. I doubt this gets it done: Houck Johnson Swihart Ockimey
