  1. Would you say Dalbec's current trade value is higher than Beeks' was last summer? My point is that trading for decent talent is not as costly as many seem to think it is. This summer, there may be 16-18 sellers- an all time high. The cost may be lower as the supply of assets are higher.
  2. Sale's OPS Against vs top competition: 2017 .666 v Yanks .564 v Rays n/a v Astros 2018 .470 v Yanks .420 v Rays .655 v Astros 2019 (small samples) .855 v Yanks .676 v Rays .661 v Astros There is no evidence that Sale falters vs tough opponents.
  3. RS per IP 2019 2.6 Price 2.9 Sale 3.9 Eovaldi 6.5 Porcello 7.7 ERod 2018 3.5 Eovaldi 3.7 Pomeranz 4.5 Sale 4.7 Price 5.3 ERod 5.9 Porcello 7.3 Johnson 2017 3.5 ERod 4.4 Sale 4.4 Porcello 4.9 Fister 5.1 Price 5.4 Pomeranz It looks like Sale is always on the short side of the mean.
  4. Will Chavis play 1B and Holt or Nunez at 2B? Too bad, Pearce was finally heating up. Moreland gets hurt every year.
  5. If the season goes down to the wire, the Rays may need Snell for game 161 or 162, and he won't be available for the WC game.
  6. Please. Nobody expected Beeks to be good, and his prospect value then was lower than Dalbec's is now. Do you disagree? Be honest.
  7. So, 40 saves & hold vs 9 blown saves. Other teams? Yanks: 20 sv + 42 Holds= 62 vs 7 blown saves Astros: 18 sv + 31 Holds=49 vs 4 blown saves Rays: 17 sv + 47 Holds= 64 vs 6 blown saves Twins: 15 sv + 32 Holds= 47 vs 3 blown saves While our blown saves issue may be exaggerated, we certainly are doing much worse than the AL leaders. Save % 83 Twins 82 Astros 74 Rays 74 Yanks 57 Sox As much as Brasier has been bashed, he has our best SV%: 67% Brasier (6/9) 50% Barnes (3/6) 50% Hembree, Walden & Workman (all 1/2)
  8. Eovaldi and Pearce were rentals that brought us a ring, and both were gotten for less than Dalbec's current worth.
  9. The mandate could be to spend 20% more and stay there all season.
  10. They may guess wrong on free agents, but they would not intentionally spend on nobodies.
  11. Many players are still doing better than 2016-2017, so I'm not so sure you are right about "coming back to earth." Besides we did win the division those years playing like "silos".
  12. What kind of of pen help can we get for Dalbec? How about Dalbec plus Johnson or Shawaryn? Would trading D Hernandez for a solid 4 month, pen arm be worth it?
  13. Like the one we had right under our noses and traded away to get 2B help last summer- Ty Buttrey for Kinsler. We never even gave him a try, here.
  14. A few of Sale's losses were with Vaz, some were blown by the pen, and others were lost by no run support, but certainly Sale has not been Sale. We needed a lock down performance last night. He was well rested. He didn't give us what we needed, but with just one run scored, it's hard to blame just him. I saw the stat last night on how Sale is like 82nd out of 87 starters when facing batters the second time around. He's been great the first time through a line-up, but batters are getting to him later. We're seeing more bone-heads plays than 2018. It's like we're back to Farrell's 2017 squad again. We need serious focus and a full team effort. It's not too late to turn things around, but I think a trade sooner rather than later might shake things up a little and break the malaise. We could also use Eovaldi and Moreland back.
  15. ...or mandate a 20% increase in payroll every year until you finish above .400.
  16. Actually, it seems to me, our hitters do worse vs rookies and scrubs. Our history (maybe not so much this year) is to rise to the occasion, when we need to. When we needed to beat the Yanks last year, we swept them. When playoff time came, we beat the best of the best- perhaps the hardest all time 3 series opponents in MLB history- the Astros, Yanks and Dodgers. We just need to snap out of this funk and play like we can. I still think we will, but time is running short.
  17. I think Barnes is our closer. Cora is just using him, when he feels the game is more on the line and not as a traditional 9th inning closer.
  18. With more sellers at the deadline than ever before, I'd expect the price to drop for players nearing free agency or moderate to high-priced players.
  19. Our bottom 3 guys got 3 of our 5 hits tonight and we have these numbers over the last ___ days: Last 30 9 guys over .796 and 8 over .810, including JBJ at .825 and Vaz at .970. Last 14 8 guys over .725, including JBJ at 1.019 (before tonight's 2-3 game) and Vaz at .725. At this point in the season, line-up depth is about the last of our worries. Even Leon is at .737 the last 4 weeks. Only our back-up 2Bman are struggling at the plate, right now. May numbers, not counting tonight: Beni .796 Betts .842 Devers 1.012 JDM .923 Bogey .970 Moreland .928/Pearce .676 (but .974 last 14 days) Chavis .810 Vaz .970 JBJ .825
  20. We have to hope Eovaldi solves number 1. We don't have the resources to solve #3 and #1. #3 is more vital. Our bottom of the order is hitting very well, now. JBJ and Vaz are 2 of our hottest hitters. Not having a closer and maybe another solid set-up guy are our biggest needs.
  21. I can see you guys winning 108, if you ever get healthy. I'm thinking we win 91-94, but it could be more. We can't wait much longer to turn on the after burners.
  22. Stuck in Clownsville.
  23. I'm still very optimistic about the Sox. I think we will go on a long hot streak and turn people's opinions around. Of course, I could be wrong, but I'm still a firm believer.
