  1. I'm probably too high on Jh Garcia, but I think he forces the OF trade issue. I did not see an OF logjam before last winter. In fact we kept adding one year guys from Renfroe to Duval to O'Neill and also dumped Dugo just in time. I think we'll trade for Keller (not Ryan.) I agree that Bregman is a goner, despite the plus he brings to the clubhouse. I'm not sure about the money needed to get Schwarber or Alonso here. They may go with a shorter contract for someone like Suarez. I hope it's for 1B or DH and not 3B, but if Mayer gets hurt again, he can play 3B.
  2. Several posters have said Brez did not do a good job at the deadline. I was upset at the time, too. I still think he could have and should have done better, but I'm stopping short of bashing him over the lack of better deals, because I'd like specifics. To fire a guy over one aspect of his total portfolio seems rash, to me. I respect differing opinions, but to me, this team has clearly gotten much better and has a better outlook going forward than it did at the end of 2022, and the record is just one sign of that. He filled some major holes in the rotation (Crochet,) pen (Chapman) and the line-up & D (Bregman & Narvaez.) Even one questionable move (Gio) is coming int fruition, now. He locked up our young talent like no previous Sox GM has ever done. He has no major contract problems of his own doing. I just don't see how an undone deadline deal outweighs all of that and is reason for termination.
  3. I agree. I think Lowe will be too expensive for JH, so they will not offer an arb. He may still re-sign here, but I think they'll go with Casas, Campbell and Romy at 1B. If Breg stay, they will pencil in Mayer at 2B (with Romy.) If Breg goes, Mayer plays 3B and we find a 2Bman- maybe Torres or a trade for K Marte. I am very sure we trade an OF'er. I'm thinking it might be Rafaela, but I'd bet on Duran. We may not add any SP'ers to replace Gio, Buehler/May, but if we don't we better get a real big bat (with Breg or not.) We should get one, even if we trade for Ryan or Keller types. (1B, DH, 2B, 3B)
  4. Strawman. Nobody has come close to saying Brez did well at the deadline. Hindsight comps have been made between Lowe (who wasn't a deadline add) and others, but nobody was or is praising Brez for his deadline deals or lack of deals. My point, is that we don't know what was on the table, and for all I know, I might be happy he didn't give what MIN wanted for Ryan, what PIT wanted for Keller or what others wanted for Suarez, Naylor, O'Hearn or Correa, none of which have set the world on fire like Schwarber did for us in 2021.
  5. Sox could be in before they even play. HOU plays this afternoon. It's hard to imagine DET catching fire, when they play us, but stranger things have happened, this year. I hope we can rest our starters. If HOU loses, today, we can pitch Bello for maybe 50-60 pitches and pull him. No more regular season starts for Crochet or Gio. Give the scrubs all the innings they can handle. Keep Chapman sharp by pitching him Saturday.
  6. I don't think they will strike over not losing their jobs calling pitches. It's not a reason to call a strike. I'm not seeing how it matters, since it's unrelated to any possible strike. I also dont see how an NFL lock out is related to a nonexistent MLB ump stike.
  7. Brez didn't pay the price asked- just like other possible deals not made. Yes, the asking price was higher, but so was the return. It's all relative and realistic.
  8. I don't see anything I said as being related to that situation.
  9. Anthony is a freak, too.
  10. Today's games: BOS (Bello) at TOR (Varland) DET (TBD) at CLE (Messick) HOU (Valdez) at ATH (Ginn) Afternoon Game CWS Martin) at NYY (Rodon) COL (Blalock) at SEA (TBD)
  11. Speaking of "Beast Bats..." OPS+ since 2021 _______________________ Schwarber (turns 33 before the 2026 season) 149>131>121>134>154 _____________________ Alonso (turns 31 in December) 133>146>123>122>144 ______________________ Tucker (turns 29 in JAN) Trade 2 OF'ers to make room? 147>129>142>179>146 ________________________ Suarez (turns 35 next July) Shorter deal? 82>129>103>115>127 ______________________ BTW, Bregman turns 32 at the start of the '26 season: 113>134>122>116>129 K Marte turnes 32 in OCT: 143>105>127>154>142
  12. Why do you think that? 1. It was a lock out, mostly on finances. 2. Was it about robo umps in the NFL? 3. Did fan rush to support the refs?
  13. Apparently, we kicked the tires on Ryan. I've agreed many times that Brez shoulda have done more. He likely could have done more, but it's hard to judge without specifics. I the overall scheme of things, Brez did a fine job building a what amounted to a 50-60 man roster over the winter and did okay with Lowe and Matz at the deadline. Since many jusge deals on just hindsight, then Lowe and Matz were fine.
  14. He has a higher OPS, but far less PAs, HRs and RBIs. Still, Lowe has 15 RBI in 105 BOS PAs, Suarez has 27 in 203 PAs- pretty close to the same ratio. Who was the other big bat traded? Correa? .775 OPS and 19 RBI in 210 PAs for the flopping Astros. How about O'Hearn? .718 and 19 RBI in 171 PAs. Yaz? .782 and 15 RBI in 167 PAs. My guy, Joe Ryan, has sucked. That's why I cut Brez some slack on this.
  15. No doubt, this team's offense has had some slumps, but even missing Devers, Casas, Anthony and then Abreu for part of the year, out team OPS is .748, but we see this... .764 last 7 games .730 last 14 days .741 last 28 days .750 since AUG 23rd.
  16. It doesn't matter what the M's did, anyway. Their DNA is 100% flopadocious. It's all destiny.
  17. Let 'em. There will never be a strike so unsupported by the public in the history of strikes. Besides, the home plate ump still keeps his job and can pretend he's making the pitch calls by himself. He will never be wrong and can never be rightly criticized for a ball-strike call ever again. They should rejoice!
  18. We still hold the 8the best MLB records and 4th best AL record. It is a league of flawed teams, as I pointed out all year long, and the Tigers and Astros are adding more evidence to that position. The streaking Yanks had a 26-35 stretch. They played under .500 baseball for a half season stretch (40-411.) Teams like CLE and the M's, who had some earlier stretches of questionable play are now looking like juggernauts. Guess what? They are flawed, too. The Jays are flawed. Hell, the Dodgers, who bought the world twice over have just two more wins than the stingy JH team. The good sides and bad sides of these teams seem to come and go willy-nilly. There is no rhyme or reason to any of it. As bad as the Astros are playing, they are still just 1 GB, because the Tigers have found a way to play even worse for longer. It looks like TOR or NYY will win the ALE and the other will be the WC1 team. BOS is 3 behind TOR, and a win tonight gives us a longshot chance of catching the Jays. The better news is that we are ... +2 on DET (DET holds the tiebreaker and play us for 3 games to end '25.) +3 on HOU (We hold the tiebreaker against them.) The NL is tighter with the NYM holding a 1 game lead over AZ & CIN for the last WC slot.
  19. This team is the offspring of past flopping parents. It's in our DNA. Thus Spoke Fredathustra.
  20. Still some games to finish tonight, but the Sox currently have the 8th best record in MLB- just 1.5 games behind a tie for 5th best with CHC, LAD & SEA.
  21. I think Fitts, Dobbins and or Tolle will start in the ML pen, if they don't win a rotation slot. Perales will be in the AAA rotation. Holobetz & Paez may be there by AUG. Maybe by AUG, our AA rotation might be Valera, Fajardo, Witherspoon, Clarke & Aita
  22. It's too bad Brez sucks because his failures at the deadline. It would be nice if we could celebrate a non-flop season and the GM who helped put the team together, but we all know how this season will end. Thus spoke Fredathustra.
  23. It was 14.1 IP (4 ERs) Tiant went 12 IP in 1973, allowing 1 ER. In '68, he went 10 IP, 6 H, 0ER, 0BB 19Ks!
