  1. To me, and I'm only speculating, these players may be at peak trade value right now: Workman (I have always liked this guy, but he has one year left and had a career year in 2019.) Walden (He keeps doing well without really having great stuff.) Chavis (Had 2-3 great weeks followed by sun .700 the rest of the year, although he kept getting key hits and rbis) Duran (Had an incredible BAbip, and I'm not sure he can continue that, despite his great speed.) ??? Barnes (His stock fell, last year, so he's not really at his peak, but he may not return to 2018 levels ever again. He has 2 years left.) JD & Eovaldi may be deadline trade material. I would not trade Sale. He's a fierce competitor and still has tremendous upside even if he has lost velocity for good.
  2. They will also replenish the farm by moving Pederson.
  3. I almost put him there, but I like starting with a lefty, since our pen is so lop-sided righty.
  4. I think the Dodger got hosed. Their only hope is that Price rebounds and Betts re-signs with them at a reasonable cost.
  5. Had we paid Betts $400M/10, many here would be ape s***. With the tax, we'd be paying him $50+M a year. The deal had to be made.
  6. No, we don't know, and some comments have come out about the Padres failed efforts. Maybe someday we'll know more.
  7. If we don't add any big salaries, why not give Castillo a shot?
  8. Bloom is the main reason I still have optimism for a quick turn around.
  9. Assuming no more acquisitions and total good health (except Pedey), here's my projected opening day 26 man roster: 4 SP: Sale, ERod, Eovaldi, Perez 1 Opener: D Hernandez 8 RP: Workman, Barnes, Taylor, Walden, Graterol, Hembree, Brice, Brasier 2 C: Vazquez, Plawecki 1 1B: Moreland 2 2B: Peraza, Chavis 1 3B: Devers 1 SS: Bogaerts 2 IF: Lin, Arauz (Rule 5) 1 LF: Benintendi 1 CF: Bradley 1 RF: Verdugo 1 DH: Martinez Should see ML time at some point: P: Velazquez, Brewer, Osich, Poyner, Shawaryn, Hart, Houck (Johnson not on 40) IF: Dalbec, M Hernandez, Chatham OF: Longhi, Sturgeon(Castillo?)
  10. Another thing is how well Bloom played the Padre interest to put some fear into LA.
  11. I'm optimistic, too. Bloom seems to have a knack, but this is a big roll of the dice.
  12. To keep the team as a top contender, we'd have had to spend like maniacs for several more year. That would have forced draft penalties and massive taxes. A reboot was inevitable. The only questions were when and for how long. Had we waited until after 2020, it's my opinion the bottom would be lower and last longer.
  13. For prospects, right? The Dodgers often deal for studs and prospects at or nearly at the same time.
  14. Making trades to get better just for 2020 probably won't happen, but any deal for someone that can be expected to help in 2021 and beyond makes sense, The problem is, who do we trade to get better? It shouldn't be prospects, unless Bloom thinks their stock is at an all time high. If it's a one player like JBJ or Workman, we would likely be getting worse in 2020. If we trade a two year player like Barnes, it will look like we are settling on a 2 year rebuild. I didn't mention ERod, because I'm hoping we extend him.
  15. The added plus for the Dodgers is that now they can trade Pederson for prospects.
  16. Perhaps sooner. Maybe by year 3 of the lux tax overage, assuming the lux tax is still around.
  17. Well, the trade simulator said Betts was about equal to Verdugo. It also said Price was worth -55M, so giving $48M looks like a Sox plus, according to them. Graterol was just gravy on top of a good deal to start with. That being said, if we didn't have to reset, and future budgets had the sky as the limit, I don't make this deal.
  18. I think we don't trade Betts to LA, unless they took Price. I'd have liked the deal without Graterol, or if we paid $19-20M a year not $16M.
  19. I worded that post wrongly. So you think we demanded LA take Price and not LA wanting half-price Price. Me, too.
  20. What will you say, if they do give $400+M next winter?
  21. That's how I see it. No way could we extend or re-sign Betts without a reset. We might not be the highest bidder, and the odds may be against him ever playing for us again, but this was clearly the best way for us to set it up for him to be here in 2021 and beyond.
  22. I'm sad we lost Betts but not angry at all. I'm happy we got back 2 players and saved $15M off the lux tax each of the next 3 years. That can get us a lot, especially if Bloom is able to do his magic with low cost deals.
  23. I think Price got us the prospect and the salary relief, but maybe we get a prospect without Price. I think we demanded the Dodgers take Price, and the delay was either about how much we pay or what prospect we get. Just my opinion. Maybe we'll find out what really happened at some point.
  24. Beni has lost his luster, to me. I don't want to trade the guy, and maybe expecting growth every year without step backs might be unrealistic, but I said what I think.
